It has been years since the name by which Lord Pale was born has ever been spoken. He has meticulously wiped it clean off the face of the Earth to create the ultimate mark of superiority in the information trade: a single fact that no one on Earth knows but him. This sort of arrogant display has characterized Pale's dealings from the first day, building his reputation as one of the top names in the seedier side of the arcane community. However, despite his perceived diplomatic nature, he more often than not is found working alone on some unknown project, or sending a demonic minion to do his work for him.
Goals and Affiliations
Lord Pale is a man of subtle influence. By guiding those he deems to fit within his worldview towards actions that benefit him in the long run, he slowly reshapes the world. In his eyes, the mortal man, especially the mage, is superior. Categorizing all supernatural entities such as demons, ghosts, and the undead under the umbrella of "spirits", he maintains the position that they are only fit for servitude. This extends, in fact, to the very creatures worshiped as gods. Having felt a rise in the power beneath Paragon City's Astoria neighborhood, he spent some time investigating and concluded early that Mot would rise. With this information, he began carefully seeding it out to those he considered worthy to give them an advantage in the inevitable power grab the event would bring.
Known Subordinates
When personally attending to a matter, Lord Pale often travels with a personal entourage of demonic warriors. Each of them has been imbued with the tiniest fragment of his own psyche, making it nigh impossible for another to wrest control of them. In addition, he has recruited or created several notable beings to serve his purposes, although not all of them have been deemed successful.
For a number of years, Pale served as a mentor to a young and talented girl by the name of Sibyl Scaleppi. However, she grew resentful of his beliefs, and eventually left his side to become a hero. In retaliation, Pale concocted a terrible ritual to destroy her. Searching through time for the perfect moment, he set into motion a stable time loop between two alternate timelines, ruining the lives of her parents before her conception. Unexpectedly, however, the ritual did not have the desired effect, and instead thrust Sibyl back in time and into a world where she should not exist. Undeterred, she remains in Paragon City as the hero Sibyl Vex.
In the revised timeline, Pale did not have an apprentice, but instead created for himself an intelligent servant out of demonic essence forcibly torn and reshaped from demons of the Circle of Thorns, who he named Lady Pale. Tasked with being his agent in Paragon City, Lady, as she preferred to be called, soon fell into a life of debauchery in Pocket D. Upon discovery of how she had been wasting his resources, he destroyed her in a fit of rage. Currently, she is trapped within a crystalline prison deep in his extradimensional fortress.
Currently, he employs the services of a nameless Spirit Golem. While unintelligent and destructive, he maintains that it is an effective enough agent to fit his purposes. It has been known to release information that Pale himself would have preferred kept silent, but the fact that he continues to use the construct seems to imply that he does not in fact mind this. Only time will tell how long the Spirit Golem will retain his favor.
