History
Jennie was one of several notable people who all attended the same elementary school in Boomtown. When she was in 6th Grade, there was a leak from a nearby chemical factory that triggered the latent abilities of several mutants on the school. The future Madame Insight, Lady Blackout, Paradocs and Wiendre were all together in that close, bound together by being the class "outcasts" for one reason or another. ((Note, the future Guidestar was in the same school, in Kindergarten at that time, and that is where her powers began as well.))
While the mysterious chemicals did lead the girls to develop powers, it didn't happen right away. Jennie's powers were the first to begin to develop, but she didn't realize it at the time. She'd always been a bright, inquisitive girl, so it didn't strike her that oddly that in college she began to have a real knack for finding right answers and the like.
Jennie's best friend is Angela Brightwater, who was another of the girls who was exposed to the gas that day, and like the others, she also developed powers. Her power is an innate ability to understand energy flows and how to use them. Not realizing that they were both metahuman, the two friends went into business after college, where they were able to parlay their abilities into respectable fortunes, especially since Jennie also showed an ability to pick stocks successfully.
In time, the others began to manifest their abilities, and Jennie and Angela realized that they were also metahuman. Madame Insight, Wiendre, Paradocs and Lady Blackout began to prowl the streets of Paragon City, tending to deal with minor crime. However, their careers were to take two very drastic turns.
First was about two years before the Rikti Invasion, when they attempted to capture the kidnapping of the son of Senator Joseph Wright. The mission ended in failure, with the child dead. However, they did capture Alandrina, who turned states Evidence against the rest of her gang.
The next major event was not too long before the invasion, when through a series of events that they are all reluctant to talk about, Paradocs was killed, and Lady Blackout was insane, determined to kill the rest.
In the aftermath of this trauma, the others quit the "hero biz." Jennie and Angela decided that they could better use their abilities by helping people. A few months ago, they were in Mexico setting up a portable power generator of Angela's design in a poor village when a local strongman tried to take it from them. Defending the village, they realized that there was still a need for them in costume.
Upon returning, they were surprised to find out that the little girl they'd known off and on for years also had powers of her own, and so they were joined by Guidestar, as well as Wiendre. They also started working with Alandrina when she was released from the Zig on good behavior.
Other distinguishing features
Madame Insight is known to wear glasses.
Strength level
Madame Insight possesses the normal level of strength appropriate for a girl her age, height, weight, and build that engages in physical activity.
Known superhuman powers
Jennie has an incredible sense of intuition. She's not a precog or anything of that nature. Instead, she is able to take pieces of information and pull them together in order to figure out the truth. For instance, she is a genius at picking stocks. Looking at the publicly available information on any company, she is able to get a sense of if it is going to go up or down.
She has attempted to learn to use her instincts in her role as a hero, but the success has not been as great as in other places, mostly because she still needs good information. However, she was the natural leader of her little group before.
Other abilities
Limitations
Deep down, she's still a bit unsure if the costumed life is the right way to use her abilities, and it's led her to doubt her own abilities at times.
Paraphernalia
None other than her costume (see weapons)
Weapons/Arsenal
Since she has no "natural" combat powers, Angela (Dynamos) made her a special battle suit. Her costume is inlaid with a fine mesh that absorbs the ambient electricity from the air (as well as a certain amount of the any energy attack that hits it). The suit is then able to discharge that power in a variety of electrical attacks. It also has a special antigrav field that enables her to fly.
