In the two years or so since I first chanced upon CoX, Magnetotron was the first character I really stuck with. He was created after deciding that I wanted to be a Blapper because it sounded cool, foolhardy and rare. It turned out to be all three of those things and along the way he's turned into a character in his own right, with his own voice. Magnetotron is sort of like Spock, trapped in a zany sci-fi pulp world.

Overview
Magnetotron is a dimension-traveling scientist from Earth-9641, one of infinite Quantum Realities. Back home, he was a Verser, an explorer of alternate universes. He's been stranded in Paragon City since arriving in our universe for reasons unknown to him. Since then, he's developed strange new Quantum Energy powers and slowly risen to the challenges of being a superhero in Paragon. He now fights alongside the Orbital Elite in defense of the city and the whole multi-verse while searching for a way back home.
Personality
Magnetotron, or Kyar rather, is a trained scientist above all. It takes fifteen years of training to become a verser, and only the most dedicated, determined, and dispassionate have any hope of succeeding. Kyar possesses all of these characteristics, and more. He is calm and rational in even the tensest situations and is filled with an unbounded sense of curiosity and wonder. That said, he is not without a lighter side. His wit is sharp, albeit often dry and is not beyond using levity to lighten the mood. Paradoxically, he does not take anything too seriously, perhaps simply because his time as a Verser has taught him that all things are relative. That said, Kyar has a streak of bold recklessness that all Versers possess; he charges headlong into the unknown without qualms or fear, simply to make it known. Danger is never obstacle for someone in his line of work.
As a friend and teammate, Kyar is intensely loyal and during his short time with the Orbital Elite, he has forged powerful friendships with some of fellow crew-mates and would follow them until death.
Appearance
Kyar is mostly genetically identical to your average Homo Sapiens and he looks the part. His appearance is that of a man in his early thirties of a moderately athletic lithe build. His only remarkable trait is the bright blue hair on his head and the goatee he carefully cultivates. In his Homeverse, it is customary for parent's to genetically alter their children before birth in order to adopt certain aesthetic traits that denote their lineage. In Kyar's case, his family has sported blue hair for twelve generations.
Kyar's time on Earth has wrought other changes however. As of late, his eyes have become filled with blue energy that glows brilliantly. Kyar calls it his 'Quantum Leak' but has found no ill effects and his vision remains mostly unchanged. Under most circumstances, Kyar wears some sort of eyewear that contains the 'Leak' and obscures the glow.
Kyar's standard attire is his traditional Verser Suit. It consists of a simple body-suit made of light material that handles well in all sorts of field conditions. It was originally far more technologically complex but was rendered inert upon Kyar's arrival on this Earth. He has since begun to re-construct much of suit's functions using Earth-based technology. This includes an energy collector on his chest that stores ambient Quantum Energy to power the suit, nano-bots that are injected by the suit into injuries to speed recovery, and climate adjusment nano-circuitry.
Powers
Genetically identical to Homo Sapiens when he arrived in our reality, Kyar has since begun to change into something else. DNA analysis has shown that his genetic structure is continuously being modified and improving, granting him fantastic abilities that he never would have dreamed of in his Homeverse.
Most prominent is his ability to harness and store massive amounts of Quantum Energy. He is capable of absorbing ambient energy and then releasing it at will in a variety of ways, mainly through his fists as a way to enhance his blows. He can also release Quantum Energy in more spectacular fashion as a sort of living bomb.
Perhaps a more fundamental change is Kyar's growing awareness of what the Orbital Elite refer to as the 'Rift Matrix', a sort of energy webway that binds the Multiverse together. Not long after his arrival in this reality, Kyar learned that he'd gain the ability of Quantum Teleportation. In effect, he could phase in and out of reality (at a different location) in a manner that was nearly identical to how he did so in his Homeverse through technology, only now he could do so naturally! Kyar theorizes that at some point he'll gain the ability to phase between realities, naturally developing the ability to do what his Quantum Displacement Unit no longer can. When that day comes, he hopes to return home at last.
Recently, the levels of Quantum Energy he stores in his body have increased exponentially. Kyar has come to the point where he periodically unleashes the overflow of energy in a spectacular transformation into a living Quantum Entity. In this form, Kyar is highly resistant to damage and able to wield Quantum Energy even more ably than normal. Whether negative side effects may result from this unexpected ability has yet to be seen.
History
Earth-9641
Kyar was born 62 years ago in Karbon City, a busy metropolis located in what used to be called Europe. He comes from a long line of prominent scientist and his eventual selection to become a Verser came as little surprise to some. He displayed the characteristic intelligence and curiosity of his lineage from a young age. He did well in school and quickly progressed academically. Through a combination of gene therapy and advanced medical technology, humans in Kyar’s reality tend to live far longer than normal, well into their second century. At his current age of 62, Kyar is physically not much older than someone in his mid-twenties would be here. By the time Kyar was 23, he’d achieved some distinction in multiple scientific fields and was conducting advanced studies in xeno-molecular biology when he learned he’d been chosen to enter Verser training.
It took fifteen years for Kyar to become a Verser, during which time he spent most of his time acquiring even more scientific knowledge, field training, and an in-depth understanding of quantum displacement and multi-verse theory. The stated mission of a Verser is simple: to go forth and survey unexplored realities. Versers generally spend two to three years at a time in a specific reality, almost always on Earth, and collect as much knowledge as they could. Interference or contact with indigenous populations is strictly prohibited. Versers stay out of sight and assume the role of inter-dimensional anthropologist, botanist, zoologist, and all manner of field scientist. When possible, small samples are brought back from visited realities for further study, be they a leaf, grain of sand or just errant molecules.
Kyar excelled in his training, the prospect of being a Verser excited him greatly, and he graduated at the top of his class. He then embarked on a series of highly successful missions in a series of increasingly stranger realities. He was soon considered one of the best Versers and given the most exciting or potentially dangerous missions. Each time he returned safely from his adventures with new stories to tell and a new appreciation of the universe. That is, until his twenty-third trip through the Verse…
Arrival in Paragon City
Kyar’s twenty-third mission began like any other. He received word that a new reality had been recently discovered and that Kyar had been selected to explore it. Apparently that reality’s Earth had a civilization strikingly similar to theirs, albeit far more primitive. It was of great interest to learn where the two realities had diverged during the development of human civilization. Realities that contained Homo Sapiens were considered by far the most valuable by historians, sociologists and psychologists alike, they allowed for a greater understanding of their own civilization and often elucidated the significance of a particular chronological event. Kyar made his preparations, geared up and set off for the new Earth. And then everything changed.
As soon as Kyar arrived in the new reality, he knew something had gone wrong. His Verser suit was not functioning, the familiar feel of the suit’s power field was gone. His stealth system had not engaged and he found himself standing in a busy thoroughfare of a crowded metropolis, tall structured loomed around him. In accordance with procedure, Kyar attempted to engage his Quantum Displacement Unit to return him home. He hoped that if he left quickly few would notice him and his interference in this reality would be minimal. To his dismay, nothing happened. More surprising still was the fact that no one took note of his strange appearance. In fact, he didn’t look that out of place. All around him he saw strange beings in colorful garb with all manner of gadgetry. He quickly realized that among women wielding what he recognized to be medieval weaponry, winged men with hands of flame, and all other manner of strange creatures ranging from mythical beasts to technological constructs, Kyar was hardly strange-looking. No one gave him a second glance until a young woman noticed the somewhat bewildered look on his face and asked if he needed help. Needless to say, he didn’t understand her, though he did recognize her speech as similar to one of the dead languages in his reality.
The first few weeks in Paragon City were very difficult for Kyar. He had no money, no food and no way to communicate with the local inhabitants. He was forced to sleep on the streets and scavenge for sustenance while trying to figure out how to repair his disabled technology. His efforts proved fruitless and he was in danger of going mad. Yet another drastic change happened during his third week in the city. While out and about, he suddenly felt a strange energy surging inside him. Without warning, brilliant bolts of blue energy burst forth from his palms, annihilating a nearby dumpster. Having discovered his newfound ability to harness and release Quantum Energy, he set about learning to control it. He’d been making frequent trips to the public library after realizing the building’s purpose and his knowledge of the English language increased daily. Most importantly, he’d learned about superheroes and hero registrations. He knew that with his powers he qualified as a superhero and that the status of a hero would be helpful in finding his way back home. A few days later when he registered in Atlas Park, Kyar chose the moniker ‘Magnetotron’, thinking it sounded suitable.
Early Heroics
As a registered Hero, life became infinitely easier for Kyar. He soon had a small living space and the ability to eat regularly. Furthermore, he was put in contact with literally hundreds of other heroes; some of who might be able to help him either repair his technology or find an alternate means home. Additionally, he’d heard that several villain groups possessed fantastic technology that could be of use to him. With that in mind, he set about making a name for himself and gaining reputation, hoping that the right people might hear of his exploits and contact him. Some of his early adventures included defeating the twisted Dr. Vahzilok, stopping the Clockwork King and battling cybernetically enhanced Freakshow. Before long, he found that he was fighting villains as an end, rather than just a means. Somewhere along the way, he’d become a real Hero, working to protect Paragon City from all manner of threats. He began making friends, learning the inner workings of the city and was starting to feel almost at home.
Dimension-Hopping
Not long after Kyar helped put a stop to the schemes of Nemesis, he was contacted by a Dr. Tina McIntyre. She was a scientist at Portal Corporation; she’d heard about his situation and was willing to help him in exchange for his assistance. Portal Corp had the means to tap into other Quantum Realities, so this was just the opportunity he’d been waiting for. After a series of grueling forays into parallel universes and an acquaintance with the so-called Praetorians, Kyar began working with Dr. McIntyre to locate his Homeverse. Sadly, their attempts proved unsuccessful. For whatever reason, Portal Corp’s equipment was unable to attune itself to the Quantum Frequency of Kyar’s reality. While he’d learned a lot from working with Portal, his particular predicament would have to be solved some other way. Neverthless, there was much to be gained from helping the company out and he relished the opportunity to continue his inter-dimensional travels. Dr. McIntyre referred Kyar to Portal Corp's head of security. He completed a few tasks before being referred to Maria Jenkins, who warned him of a dire plot against Earth by the Praetorians. Battle after battle after the forces of Praetorian Earth culminated in a titanic battle against [1] Tyrant himself in order to rescue Paragon's greatest hero, Statesman. With that done, Kyar felt he'd learned all he could from scientists at Portal Corp and turned to another group of dimensional travelers, the Rikti.
Battling the Rikti
Since leaving Portal Corp., Kyar has dedicated himself to battling the Rikti alongside Vanguard. It is his hope that he can make use of the alien technology to find a route back to his home dimension. Whether he extracts the information by force from the Restructurists or by diplomacy from the Traditionalists is of no consequence. Thus far however, he has learned little of use.
Affiliations
The Orbital Elite
While patrolling Talos Island one day, Kyar encountered a stranger battling some Devouring Earth. Jumping the fray alongside the stranger, the two quickly dispatched their foes. The stranger introduced himself as Rift Runner and thanked Kyar for his help. Something about Rift Runner intrigued Kyar, he could sense they shared a kinship of sort. As it turned out, Rift Runner belonged to a species of Aliens who could naturally ‘rift’ between Quantum Realities. They were charged with protecting the so-called ‘Rift Matrix’ which they believed to be some sort of Quantum Webway that connected the multi-verse and served as the means by which ‘rifting’ was achieved. Rift Runner was also a crewmember onboard the Orbital’s Hope, a hidden space vessel in Earth’s orbit that served as a home to the Orbital Elite. The Elite is a group of heroes who work to protect not just Paragon City, but in fact the entire multi-verse from all manner of threats. Rift Runner headed the inter-dimensional division of the organization and after learning about Kyar’s past, invited him to join the crew. Partly for reasons he couldn’t quite understand, Kyar agreed.
Since then, Kyar has become a proud member of the Elite, gladly fighting alongside such heroes as Edward Allgood and Kid Liono. While he has yet to learn much more that could help him return home, he does not regret joining the crew at all, happy to have some sort of approximation of a family and a real ‘home away from home’ in this reality.
The Freedom Phalanx
Also not long after his battles against Nemesis’ forces, Kyar was contacted by the Freedom Phalanx and offered the opportunity to join their reserves. Honored to be considered worthy of admittance to such a revered supergroup, he gladly accepted and is now a card-carrying member of the Freedom Phalanx Reserve.
Vanguard
As part of his efforts to return home, Kyar decided the Rikti would make a good potential source of information. He approached the organization known as Vanguard and offered his services, knowing that working with them would lead to many an encounter with the dimension-traveling invaders. After proving himself, he was quickly inducted into the group and has since shown himself to be a valuable member of the team. While Kyar appreciates the stated intentions of the Vanguard, he quietly questions some of their methods.
