MediCow

From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe

Jump to: navigation, search

MediCow is the third character I have made on Virtue, and the sixth I have made for the City of Heroes universe. However, she is the oldest still existing. She is the first Defender I have ever made. Before I had made only Blasters and Scrappers, which were fun to play, but left me feeling very lonely as they hardly ever got invited to team. Healers appeared to be most in demand, so that's what I created. Her popularity took off from there. The concept was inspired by a friend who might-have-possibily been the love of my life whom, like a fool, I let slip from my life because she had joined the Navy. She played a Minotaur Priestess-type character on World of Warcraft. I could have reconnected with her, but it meant having to play WoW (a sickening concept to me not worth the possibilty of finding true love).

Personality

MediCow is the perhaps the most giving, self-sacrificing person you may ever know. To say that healing is in her blood wouldn't be half as accurate as saying that healing is in her bosom. Being a radioactive mutant infused with cow DNA, and only that DNA responsible for lactation, she has a playful, naughty sense of humor. How else is one to be when so many heroes enjoy nursing from her fountain of healing, and she enjoys so much giving of herself? She is fond of making jokes at her own expense. Though this is because she wasn't always superpowered. She was once just an ordinary teenager with a glandular problem. She had to make jokes about herself before everyone else did. That way she'd be the one to laugh first, and then everyone else could have a good laugh when milk would shoot out not-her-nose.

Though she is no docile cow. She has been known to defend her companions with a fury; throwing out blasts, heals, and buffs all in rapid succession. She will often charge straight at the enemies along side the Tanks and Scrappers to get in close where her healing sprays can do the most good for those who need it the most often. In turn, she trusts her Tank companions to keep her safe, though this may be frustrating as she is as aggressive as any Blaster.

Powers

Empathy

MediCow's most unique ability is to lactate at will. Her mutant milk (some say magical) has the ability to heal those who drink it. Over the years its potency has become such that it heals on contact. "Milk! It does a body good!", isn't just her battle cry, it's the truth. Milk builds strong bones and teeth, and her Fortitude Milk does just that. Her milk can also clear the mind, and dramatically increase one's recovery rate. Indeed, the only thing it doesn't cure is lactose intolerance.

Radiation Blast

She can discharge bolts of radiation through her arms. She uses this power quite often to weaken her foes. Typically she will fire off a Proton Volley, come closer to fire off an Neutron Bomb, closer still for an X-Ray Beam, and finish them off with a Cosmic Burst.

Speed

Cows are not known for being particularly fast creatures. On hoof, she isn't particularly fast at all. But when she gets into a tight spot, the rate she can heal can become hastened. Likewise, the speed that she can attack. Call it Mad Cow Disease if you will.

Leaping

"The cow jumped over the moon." Perhaps not the moon, but MediCow can leap over tall buildings in a single bound. She could have taken the name Super Cow, but that name was already taken. It would also mean having to wear a costume that has her udders constantly exposed. That's a little more indecent than she'd like to be, not to meation when leaping and doing acrobatic flips in combat it would leave her with a sore back and a bruised face.

Fitness

Years of drinking her own milk has done her body much good. She has acquired a permanent adrenalin boost from all the times she has had to drink her own milk to save herself.

Power Mastery

As if her healing powers couldn't get any better, she has mastered her own powers. Her radation blasts can become stronger, and her heals more potent for a short time. She also can emit a shield of radiation that wards off smashing and lethal blows. And as a last resort, she has the total focus to smash her opponents into the ground and leave them disorientated long enough for her to dispatch them at her liesure.

Abilities

MediCow has the uncanny ability to buff her allies in the middle of combat while attacking and healing. She's very quick on the heal, rarely loosing an ally to withering fire. Indeed, the only time her companions die is when they do something foolish, or if the weight of fire hitting them is enough to bring them from perfectly well to dead in a single second. Thus MediCow is known for being one of the best healers in the business.

Weaknesses and Limitations

Boom! Boom! Out for hours. Her willingnes to put herself in harm's way often gets her harmed usually by explosions aimed at the Tank she's standing next to. Medi also has a hyperactive metabolism so she has to eat three times as much as a normal person; most of her diet being fat.

Equipment

MediCow wears a utility belt. But unlike other heroes who have spare ammo clips, medkits, grappling lines, and other such useful devices, MediCow's is equipped with bottles and breastpumps. She looks like a mother having to take care of nursing triplets.

Character History

Clara Hastings grew up on a diary farm near the tiny town of White Plains, Minnesota. Milking the cows was a daily activity for her. Never did she thing she would become like a cow herself. It started when she hit puberty when young ladies begin developing their flowering buds. Only hers also secreted their nector. Wet t-shirts were not a contest to her, they were an embarrassing fact of life. The school nurse told her that she was one in a million teenage girls who has a glandular condition causing them to lactate. The hormone treatments necessary to correct this glandular abnormality were beyond the price of her humble dairy farmer parents. And so Clara had to live with the fact that she will get little wet spots. She learned the laugh about it. The embarrassment was harder on her little sister who constantly had to 'be cool' when her older sister is a Human dairy cow.

New technology to the dairy industry brought a new pasturization process. Rather than heat the milk to kill bacteria, some dairy packagers began using radiation. Supposedly it would curdle the cream and ruin a batch of milk like using too much heat would. But too much radiation has its own effects. To the normal children, the irradiated milk was harmless same as the background dose from living too close to a nuclear reactor. But to Clara, the effect was more profound. Her glandular condition came from mutated genes. They were just normal enough to make her appear normal, and just unstable enough for a small dose of radiation to upset the balance. At first, her glandular condition grew worse. She had no dry days. If she laughed she would become a fountain if not for her bra getting in the way of the spray. The jokes about her grew sickeningly worse, and it was her own sister leading the cheer squad to put her to work in the school cafeteria and as the school mascot. In an attempt to further degrade her, Clara's little sister, Cathy, dared a boy on the football team to take a drink to see if it tasted any better than the milk in the cafeteria. The boy's scratches healed! His sore shoulders weren't sore any more. He had more energy than anyone could imagine and went on to win the highschool league's MVP award.

As for Clara, she was taken to an institute for further research. It was found that the radiation had mutated her genes further than they were mutated before. Her body had begun generating radiation, as well as becoming an endless cremery. To fuel this constant production, she began eating thrice as much as a normal teenager all while putting on no weight. The healing properties of her milk would go to waste in White Plains. So after highschool, she packed her things and moved off to the big city, Paragon City. There she was most appreciated for her healing abilities. Though some heroes find her powers disturbing, some arrousing, most prefer not to think about it. After all, when someone hands you a bottle of milk and tells you to drink it to get healed, you don't stop to wonder where it comes from. Eventually, they all see where it does come from, at which point you have to shrug. After all, most of us drank that when we were babies and it didn't do us any harm.

Trivia

MediCow unnofficially holds the dubious distinction of having the record number of deaths in a single Hamidan Raid.
