History
A good natured, fun-loving, and popular teenager in his local arrondissement, Serge was destined to medal for the 2008 Olympics Canadian Men’s Gymnastics Team when he collapsed during a practice meet in Calgary. Rushed to hospital, the medical staff could do nothing for the sixteen year old as latent mutant genes finally manifested themselves. Granting him super-human reflexes, agility, and the remarkable ability to sense and manipulate localized kinetic energy, Serge’s mutagenic gains were balanced by deformities that left him looking more monstrous than man.
Disqualified from participation in the Olympics, Serge attempted to return to school but found his former popularity and jocular nature were not enough to overcome the unease classmates felt around him. Arranging for private tutors, his parents attempted to home-school him, and have him help out with the family logging business. Unfortunately, the employees also found it difficult to work alongside him; especially after his older brother, an influential fundamentalist minister in the community, labeled him an “ungodly abomination”.
Unable to take the disgrace any longer, Serge was at wit’s end. Fortunately, fate stepped in and he was visited by a local talent scout for Cirque de Soleil. Serge found he fit in well with the other performers in the traveling acrobatic theatre; rebounding into the playful adolescent he was before his transformation. He enjoyed traveling the world with the troupe under the name “The Mooncreeper” but felt a profound sadness that his lot in life was to be an entertainer, and not his original aspirations towards doing good-works like his older brother.
On the Cirque’s tour of Paragon City, Mooncreeper got to see first-hand the number of heroes with special abilities and the good they were doing. Deciding this was more to his liking, Mooncreeper left his acrobat troupe and registered as a hero. With the help of Paragon City Social Services, Serge was connected with the Franciscan Order of St. Mary in King’s Row; the kindly monks providing him with shelter and tutors so that he can finish his G.E.D. Although he has since been recruited by the Young Gods of the Golden Age, Serge still finds time to assist in the order’s charitable mission.
Other distinguishing features
Initially Mooncreeper had bluish skin that changed in hue from light to dark with the phases of the moon. Since the most recent Rikti invasion however, his skin tone has changed inexplicably to a ruddish red; giving him an even more classically "demonic" appearance. Demon-peaked ears, and a devil-tipped prehensile tail. Speaks with a pronounced Quebequois accent.
- IMPORTANT UPDATE Mooncreeper was subjected to a brutal retaliative assault by the Freakshow aimed to send a strong message to the Golden Age Heroes. As a result of this attack, G.I.F.T. physicians were forced to amputate his legs. In a bizarre turn of events, within a few hours of the amputation new lower limbs typical of the average human grew in their place. GIFT scientists have no explanation for this amazing regenerative event as nothing in Serge's genotype would account for this ability.
Strength level
Although Serge’s mutations have not greatly enhanced his already Olympic-level strength and agility, his ability to manipulate localized kinetic energy allows him to change the density of objects and reinforce his inherent strength. This gives the outward appearance that he is much stronger than his natural abilities would normally allow; evident in his ability to break open doors, lift large automobiles, and hang for extended periods from his tail.
Known superhuman powers
The ability to manipulate kinetic energy. These abilities are continuing to evolve, but so far The Mooncreeper has demonstrated that he can project force bolts from his hands, shift inertial power to rejuvenate and increase the speed of himself and his teammates, change his density to hover in place, and create localized tears in the planar continuum that allow him to teleport friends, himself, and objects from one location to another.
Other abilities
Despite his monstrous appearance, Mooncreeper is quite charismatic and charming; a personality trait that has been over-enthusiastically applied towards romancing beautiful women. Although genuine, exuberant, and chivalrous in his pursuit of female companionship, Serge has a tendency to come across a bit too strong.
Limitations
Serge’s superpowers seem to be associated with the phases of the moon, waxing and waning in potency in coalition with the lunar cycle. Whether this is tied to the moon’s gravitational force, moonlight, or some other cosmological phenomena is unclear at this time. Mooncreeper, while enthusiastic, is sometimes impulsive in combat scenarios, and is still learning to think through his actions. This impulsivity can be especially hazardous when combined with his insatiable curiosity. Fortunately, his fast reflexes, super speed, and teleportation ability usually prevent him from being harmed as a result of his playing with things he does not understand or poking his nose where it does not belong.
Paraphernalia
None, although he is quite curious of the equipment frequently used by his Golden Age teammates, often to their chagrin.
Weapons/Arsenal
None.
