Mr. Malice
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Mr. Malice was originally more necromancer than voodoo practitioner. But that didn't last long. Before he acquired his second minion he was firmly entrenched in the voodoo-inspired background seen here.

Mr. Malice is one of the Bosses of The Crime League, but usually works alone. His past career has paired him up with other members of The Crime League, including General Nacht, Tsoo-icide, and Malfire. But those incidents were more out of a necessity of the moment, than any kind of desired pairing. Mr. Malice prefers to handle matters with his zombies whenever possible, and prefers the solitude that grants him.
Personality
Mr. Malice is, name not withstanding, not without a sense of humor. In fact, he is very often laughing and can be quite willing to engage in banter with those that oppose him. Perhaps it is because of the constant solitude and lack of communication that comes from working with his barely intelligent minions.
Malice's only goal appears to be the acquisition of power. He does not care for status, influence, or wealth, except as those might be used to gather more power for himself. To that end, he is usually found experimenting with new potions, or seeking to acquire mystical items that he might be able to subsume into his own formiddable mystical arsenal.
Powers
Necromancy
Using ancient arts that the voodoo shamans are told to avoid, Mr. Malice is able to raise the dead and restore life to them. Unfortunately, this new life is nothing like the true spark of life that the living are granted upon birth. These are the dark arts of unlife and using this talent, Malice is able to raise an army of the undead to do his bidding. In addition to the walking dead, Mr. Malice has recently learned how to tap into the spirit world itself and drag minions from that world into ours. He can often be seen in the company of a ghost or other spirit entity that has been forced into servitude.
Poisons
Darius was trained from childhood in the art of potion making. Some potions are designed to heal, and some work to do just the opposite. He has shown no qualms about mixing other types of magic, high-tech drugs and other such compounds into his work. The result is an arsenal of potions and elixirs that are capable of unbelievable results.
Additional Powers
Teleportation
In his quest for knowledge, Mr. Malice long ago stumbled onto the lost art of Shadow Stepping. He is able to step into pools of darkness and then step out of another pool of darkness nearby. At night, this allows him to travel very rapidly and appear in places that he should not have been able to get to. He can accomplish such feats during the daylight by using the natural shadows of the forests and cities, which is one of the reasons why he prefers the dark and narrow streets of the Rogue Isles.
Weaknesses and Limitations
Cut off the head, and the body cannot last. Because of their limited intelligence, Mr. Malice's zombies have the utmost loyalty and will perform even suicidal actions on his behalf. Unfortunately, that is because they require direction for every action. If Mr. Malice were to be removed, even if he were to lose consciousness, the abilities of his minions would be sharply affected. For that matter, he must take precautions to keep himself safe, especially during unavoidable lapses, such as when he sleeps. He is constantly searching for the formula to give his creations greater intelligence.
Character History
Darius DeJohn was raised to be a medicine man, a caretaker and servant to the people, as was his grandfather, Papa Warwick. By all accounts, he was raised well and showed a fine aptitude for the vouduin, or voodoo. But when a hurricane obliterated their village, young Darius sought help from the village for his wounded grandfather. Beset by troubles of their own, and disillusioned in Papa Warwick because he was not able to warn them, the villagers turned Darius away. He was forced to sit by his dying grandfather's side, powerless to aid the only family he had.
Darius was unable to face the loss of Papa Warwick. He searched through the old man's things, finding all the magicks that he was previously forbidden from touching. He tried everything to save the old man, but after a long week of terrible agony, Papa Warwick gave up the ghost. But Darius refused to be beaten. He knew there was a way to bring someone back, but that the price was costly. He did not care. He performed the ritual as best he could piece it together. And it worked!
Unfortunately, returning life to a body, and returning the person are two different things. What returned was not Papa Warwick, but something else. Something angry, something animalistic, something hungry. Darius, in danger of his own life, was forced to kill his beloved Papa Warwick.
And he has never recovered from that crime. Always now, he seeks more power. True power. The power to return the living as they were. And he will stop at nothing to gain that long-forbidden knowledge. It's unknown whether, after all these years, he even intends to bring Papa Warwick back to life if he completes the quest that is consuming him.
