Background

Kelly Swane grew up in West Virginia in a small mining town near the Kentucky border. Her parents both worked for the local mine. Her father a mining foreman, her mother in the front office. The work was difficult and dangerous, but paid well, and gave a sense of accomplishment. In this small town, there wasn't much to for fun. Most of the residents were hunters, and the Swane family was not an exception. While she preferred hiking to hunting, she really enjoyed target shooting with a bow. While her father was mostly Danish, there was some Native American blood on her mother's side that Kelly took seriously. Along with the target shooting, Kelly studied the methods that the Iroquios used to thrive and survive prior to the colonial period. She was impressed by their pragmatic approach to problems, and tried to model her approach to dealing with life's challenges with a similar approach. Kelly joined the high school archery team, and was the first female captain in the school's history. She began to entertain dreams of the Olympics, and dedicated herself to that goal.

Tragedy

Due to the lax gun laws, West Virginia is often used as a state for what is known as straw purchases. These are when there are people that buy lots of guns, sell them to criminals illegally, and then claim they were stolen. Greyeagle was not immune to this phenomenon. As it happened, Kelly's mother happened across one of the straw to criminal transactions outside of gas station. The straw purchaser happened to be a sheriff's deputy, who was already at risk of being fired due to some questionable associations. In order to save his job and avoid prison, the deputy shot both Kelly's mother and the criminal - a young gang member from Detroit, and framed the dead gang member for the murder of the witness. Using two different guns, his story went unchallenged. He became a hero of sorts. The shooting had different effects on Kelly and her father. Her father turned to the bottle, and while still able to remain sober at work, spent most of his off hours drunk or getting there. Kelly was suspicious of the shooting, and began an investigation of her own. Within 3 months, she was able to piece together inconsistencies in the "hero's" story, and was able to convince the state attorney to reopen the investigation. Soon after, her father, driving drunk, was in a fatal one car accident. This left Kelly alone, and with enemies. Having graduated from high school, she moved to Alaska, to become a wilderness guide, abandoning her Olympic dreams.

Becoming a Vigilante

Arriving in Alaska, Kelly found work as a park ranger. Her study of the Native ways of the Iroquios translated well to the environment during most of the year, and she really enjoyed helping those that were lost or injured. She knew she was running from dealing with her parents' death, but for the time being, she was coping. When a local woman's ranch was transferred to an oil company via eminent domain, Kelly again saw those in power taking advantage of those they were supposed to serve. Donning a mask, and her bow, she broke into the oil company's local office, and attained evidence that they had bribed the local government, and that the transfer had been illegal. The official who was implicated thought he had been exposed by his secretary, and in a fit of rage, beat her to death. Kelly felt responsible for the woman's death. She realized that if she was going to protect the powerless, she need to make sure that the innocent were protected from reprisal. She avenged the woman's death, shooting an arrow through the man while he was free on bond. She didn't like killing, but felt in was occasionally necessary, to send a message that the corrupt would be held accountable.

Joining the Guard

In order to protect the innocent, Kelly took on the identity "Mystery Bow," and decided to head to where she felt corruption was most rampant - Washington DC. After taking down a Senator, exposing him for corruption, she made a host of powerful enemies. These enemies put a bounty out on her, large enough that both criminals and heroes alike were gunning for her. The first Global Guard, saw her for the crusader she was, and needing heroes to fill out their ranks, offered to stand with her if she joined with them. After investigating them, and finding them to be free of corruption, she joined. She moved to their island base, and was protected from those who wanted to collect the bounty on her. The Guard also had the technology, as well as the technological know-how to fill out her quiver with specialized arrows. Kelly fell in love with Guard member, , and after dating for a 2 years, they were engaged to be married. During the time of inactivity, Kelly spent most of her time as a civilian, working for a consumer protection organization, fighting corruption through the letting the public know about it, figuring the best way to protect the public was to educate them to protect themselves, though still occasionally moonlighting as a costumed hero, just to stay sharp.

Death

When the Guard was gearing back up, Kelly and her fiancé rejoined, again ready to fight the good fight. They were both at the relaunch celebration on Caffan Island, and were both killed in whatever occurred there, along with the rest of the first Guard. There is a memorial at the site of where the base was located.
