Family History

Millenia ago, the deity Susanoo no Mikoto saved the goddess Kushinada from the Yamatano Orochi. As his price, he married her, in addition, he gained the Kusanagi from the 4th tail of the serpent. This was gifted to his sister Amerasu, was made one of the three imperial treasures of Japan, and supposedly resides in the Atsuta shrine, although no one has seen it for decades. This is, in part, because they only recently realized that the sword there, while of the right shape and kind, is not the Kusanagi.

The descendants of Susanoo and Kushinada, though of divine descent, were mortal, like the Imperial family of Japan. Unlike them, they stayed hidden in Izumo, guarding the entrance to Yomi, and, in the end, taking the name Yagi for themselves. While the Imperial family was gifted with glory and rulership, the Yagi family was gifted with magical talents relating to their ancestors. Ranging from weather controllers to healers to visionaries, they kept themselves hidden, out of both deference to and fear of the imperial family. After one of the most gifted visionaries had her final vision, they stole the Kusanagi, and hid the theft under the latest war, leaving a very fine counterfeit in its place. It was then hidden from even their sight, and they started breeding for certain gifts. At one point, they bred in a bastard offshoot of the Imperial family, resulting in a large number of the clan being descended from two of the no Mikoto.

Childhood

Yoko and Hiroshi Watanabe were childhood sweethearts and never lost that feeling. They were also second cousins, put together as a part of the Yagi family breeding plan, with the latest mastermind behind it being Yagi Kimi. Nariko was their only child, despite many attempts to have others, so they showered her with attention and love. In addition, they and Kimi made certain that ceremonies were performed for her to ensure her well-being. Being moderately wealthy, both from inheritance, and getting into IT back before it seemed to be the hot ticket, she grew up a semi-spoiled child. Of course there were the occasional spats and arguements, but for the most part, she had a happy childhood.

Rikti Invasion and Aftermath

Her parents were in business in Baumton, while she was staying with her grandmother in Seattle, when the Rikti invaded. Seattle managed to avoid any real disasters, but her parents were never found. In fact, to this day, no physical evidence of her parents final resting place has ever been found. After her grandmother made sure all of her physical needs were taken care of, and at Nariko's insistance, she was left at her parent's penthouse apartment in Steel Canyon. She left certain people to watch over her, and see what happened. While she worked well on her schoolwork, she didn't put any effort into making any friends, and fell into a fairly strong, dark depression.

Discovery of Powers

Nariko decided, finally, that she wanted to join her parents, wherever they were. So she attempted to slit her wrists. Much to her dismay, the wound healed almost instantly. She tried to kill herself for several days, including one attempt to die from a 200 story fall, before going to various experts on the subject of super-powers. As far as anyone could tell, she was fully human, and not at all mutated, although MAGI claimed some faint echo of magic could be found on her. Nariko shrugged, and joined up with ELITE at 16. Due to what ELITE labelled as overconfidence, and her status as a minor, her medical teleporter was rigged to spring slightly earlier than usual, causing her to complain often, as she wanted to both test her limits, and finally be allowed to die. One evening as she was looking online, and found some links that led to the Teen Squadron homepage, so she signed up with there.

Recent Events

After fighting against the Rikti and Lost in the Crash Site with several others, she was tutored by her cousin, Yagi Kiyoshi, who had been sent by Kimi. His job was to help her unlock the ki flows inside her. During the invasion of Paragon, she was kidnapped by Death's Hourglass, who took her to another cousin of hers, whose name she never got, that had joined the Tsoo, but also worshiped the Yamatano Orochi. Since she was a direct female-line descendant of Kushinada, he was attempting to sacrifice her to resurrect the serpent, but misjudged her abilities, and he died under the idol of the serpent. During the battle, she fought in the air, and saw the Kusanagi in a vision before her. She was unable to grasp it, but she was able to increase her ki manipulation, allowing for amazing speeds, and once breaking the sound barrier. Since then, she has fought her cousin Kiyoshi, and defeated him on skill alone, leaving her on her own. Shortly thereafter, she disappeared, prompting her grandmother to give members of the Guardian Angels looking for some of their own who went missing a push in her direction. She had been trapped in another world, where her parents were Yamatano Orochi cultists, who attempted to sacrifice her, after removing her bracers and tiara, which help to channel her powers. She was able to keep them off long enough for the GA rescue party to arrive.
