Nateshilan was born to a family with a mystical heritage and developed magical abilities at a young age. As she grew she found she had a talent for healing magics and a sensitivity to items of a magical nature. Using these gifts she sought out others and used her abilities to hunt out artifacts so that they could be studied. During one such investigation she came into contact with a dark armor. It reacted to her presence by bonding with her body and attacking her life energies and mind as a dark presence hidden within the armor sought control over her. Her companions were able to block the presence long enough for her to find various mystical runes that when engraved upon the armor allowed her to lock the dark presence away. This struggle left her touched with dark powers and great reserves of magical energies that enhanced her existing talents greatly. She has dedicated herself to the destruction of other such artifacts and those that would misuse them.

Early History
Janet Munson was born in the early morning hours of August 4th, 1966 as an only child to her parents, Sara and Joseph Munson. Her earliest life was unremarkable as she lived and grew much like any other child despite her families strong magical heritage and both her mother and father being open practitioners of the magical arts. It was during her 6th year of life that she first displayed an unusual affinity for magical energies as she "saw" a shimmering in the air that corresponded to a protective enchantment spell that had been laid about her home. From their her talents grew and on her eighth birthday her magical education began in earnest. While attending regular public schools for her standard education, she was also involved with private tutors on a daily basis to enhance her understanding of the basics and fundamentals of magic, not least of which was a healthy respect and wariness for what it could do. By the age of 12 her education had focused on her apparent gift in the areas of magical sensitivity and healing. She thrived and excelled in the arts of healing having an innate sense of how best to apply magical energies to an injury to mitigate further harm and enhance the natural healing of the body. However it was her natural sensitivity to magic that truly caught her own attention. This sensitivity quickly grew so that she could detect even minor magical energies miles from their source with startling accuracy. However while she could detect the energies she could not tell to what end they were being applied which always piqued her curiosity and her desire to find out just what was going on over there.
Early Career
After finishing her basic education both public and magical at the age of 18 she moved on to continue her education in Archer-Praxton University a school that specialized in giving modern educations to those with special talents, whether magical or other, and showing them how to apply those talents to their chosen field. With her natural magical talents in healing many advised Janet to enter into the medical field, she chose instead to pursue her interest in tracking down unknown magical sources that often she alone could easily detect and track. To this end she studied history and archeology eventually earning her Masters degree and moving forward to gain her PHD. She entered the field on several expeditions and was part of several teams that acquired important artifacts and was earning a small but deserved reputation for her ability to locate magical artifacts where others had failed. It was during this time that she made several important friendships. The most notable being that of a young undergrad student by the name of Zoara whom she mentored in her chosen Degree of History and aided in acquiring the Ring of Shifting, a magical artifact that would prove very important in helping Zoara develop socially.
While engaged in field work with several of her gifted colleagues she came across a very strong and very strange magical aura buried beneath the old ruins of a European castle. Searching out the source Janet was the first of her team to come into contact with a suit of blood red armor. Her knowledge of the arcane allowed her to deduce it was sinister and she immediately attempted to erect a magical shield between herself and the armor, but was far to slow as her mere presence triggered a malevolent presence within the armor that immediately attempted to bond the suit to her and at least in a purely physical sense succeeded. Thanks to the quick thinking and action of her friends however a temporary spell was able to be placed about her and the armor that acted as a barrier between the suits own dark "soul" and her own.
Struggle
With the aid of her friends and family Janet was able to strengthen and enhance the barrier spell already in place, but even this was only a temporary measure that would at most hold the malevolent entity within the armor at bay for a handful of years. Janet immediately sought out isolation so she could research and study that which afflicted and attacked her without placing any others in jeopardy. To this end she and her friends created a small pocket dimension and stocked it with every mystical tome and resource she could think of and then locked herself away from the rest of the world with a spell that would only allow her to emerge so long as her souls signature remained unchanged. In this way she sought to safeguard all she cared for from the evil within her should she fail to find a way to save herself. For the next few years Janet was utterly alone and absorbed in her studies and attempts to stop the armor from gaining control over her for whatever dark purposes it served. Eventually with time running out and an absolute answer to her dilemma still remaining as elusive as ever she opted to take a gamble on a possible solution. If the gamble succeeded she would not be free of the armor but would be free of the evil conscious that guided it, if she failed then what she would become would forever be locked away within this minute pocket dimension.
A Beginning and an End
Using her own powers she began slowly and carefully carving and engraving mystical runes and patterns in a precise order with a precise amount of spiritual essence into the armor and herself. Just as she was completing this process and engraving the final runes the temporary shields erected so long ago finally failed. As they failed a torrent of dark negative energies assaulted her and a dark presence attacked her very center of being in an attempt to corrupt and pervert her very nature to its cause. With the last of her power she finished the last rune just as she lost consciousness under this dark assault.
When she awoke she was still herself... yet changed. The presence within the armor was gone but its power was not and the armor was still bonded to her. The runes she had been using were meant to lock away forever the conscious presence of the armor but not to destroy it, thus the question was where had it gone. The answer was into Janet herself, but locked away as intended separated forever from its powers, but with the presence within her albeit locked away the armor now recognized Janet as its master and all its powers were hers to freely command. He native magical talent was amplified several fold through the energies of the armor and she had gained access to a dark and vile plane of negative energy through it. Indeed it seemed as if this plane of negative energy that she now had access to was the armor itself. She quickly discovered that when drawing upon the dark energies of the armor to heavily her physical form would shift to one better able to handle them without negative repercussions and then when the energies had diffused throughout her system suitably shift back to her original form.
Having succeeded in containing the vile presence of the armor and having gained control of it herself and a basic understanding of its powers and abilities she now sought once more to return to the world she had left.
A Changed World
While Janet believed that her safeguards would allow her to exit she was not certain, she need not have worried however as the barriers built into her small pocket dimension readily let her pass through and return to her home. Or rather what was left of her home after the Rikti were finished with it. While secluded away dealing with her own trials the world she had known had vanished under Rikti attack and left a very different place behind. While victory had already been achieved at the time of her return the rebuilding was far from complete, but above all else she needed to know how her friends and family had fared during the chaos that had most clearly prevailed during the Rikti war.
It took months of time searching and inquiring before she discovered the truth. Both her parents had volunteered to serve against the Rikti in defense of Paragon City and both had been killed. In addition most of her friends had met similar fates as the Rikti had taken to specifically targeting those with magic talents as they proved to be particularly effective at combating the Rikti, ensuring a particularly high death toll amongst the wielders of magic.
Janet was devastated by this news as she had always been close to her family and almost immediately rejected her past life and the hurt associated with it and took on a new mantle. She assumed the identity of Nateshilan after the ancient and forgotten author of the tome that held the secrets to saving her and strove to prevent the tragedies that had befallen her from ever claiming another. In pursuit of this new life goal she had predictably developed a particular hate for the Rikti but also for any and all groups and individuals that engaged in the misuse and abuse of the magical arts.
A New Family
While the new Nateshilan wanted to distance herself from her past it proved more difficult to do so than she had imagined. First the few of her old friends that remained were not likely to just forget her after her return from what many had thought had been a self imposed death sentence or at the very least permanent exile. Zoara was particularly insistent in helping Nateshilan through the hard times in her life as Nateshilan had previously helped Zoara through hers.
An additional complication that arose at this time was in the form of a diminutive young cat-girl by the name of Relana that her parents had apparently adopted after her self imposed exile. This was not a responsibility that Nateshilan could ever walk away from. Once again she had a family and close friends.
A New Life
Though dealing with Relana proved more difficult than she could have initially imagined she did everything she could for the sometimes troubled and oft times aloof cat-girl that was now her sister and responsibility. After agreeing to give guest lectures at the Paragon university in relation to both her archeological and magical exploits and knowledge she was able to gain admittance to the University for her adopted sister despite her complete lack of records and past history.
Relana appeared to do well in the University environment and rapidly developed a few close friends. Nateshilan was happy to see this and other than a few visits has largely had few major interactions with her new sister as both of their schedules seem to conspire to keep them apart.
Zoara on the other hand has been another case altogether constantly pulling Nateshilan into one escapade or another. From battling Rikti forces in the Rikti War Zone to fighting the Circle of Thorn wherever they raise their head, if you see Nateshilan you are more likely than not to also see Zoara.
