Relana was one of several creations created through the alteration and direct manipulation of human and nonhuman genetic material in an attempt to create the perfect living weapons. However the genetic manipulation was only the beginning as further alterations were made using nanites after gestation. The scientists had hoped to be able to cash in by selling customized "super soldiers" to the highest bidder. After successfully creating and auctioning off all but one of their creations the organization was destroyed and the remaining prototypes was freed. Few of the records survived, but enough to show Relana was created to specialize in close combat. Possessing enhanced reflexes and a super accelerated metabolism along with a somewhat enhanced nanotube reinforced surface skin, bone structure, and musculature she is capable of incredible feats that seem perfectly natural to her. Relana has dedicated herself to stopping the Rikti that killed her adopted family.

The Idea
After the fall of the Warsaw Pact and the end of the cold war many scientists from that area of the world found themselves out of work with few prospects in their home country. Many such took work doing whatever was offered if the price was right. One such group wound up working on a "Super Soldier" project. This project was hardly unique and is a theme oft repeated by Governments, legitimate groups, rogue groups, and of course various known nefarious villain groups. This particular group was of the Rogue independent variety with each member hoping to be able to cash in on their final "product". Little is actually known about the early years of those like Relana as most of the records were destroyed in the raid that eventually ended the project. What is known is recorded here as well as the personal story of Relana herself.
The Start
Relana was officially marked down as Project ECCP/Gamma-12267. A date of birth/conception/creation is not marked down in any surviving records, though the oldest surviving dated record for Project ECCP/Gamma-12267 was August 3, 1995. The records state that Project ECCP/Gamma-12267 was to be subject 12,267 of 13,000 of an Extreme Close Combat Prototype using the Gamma protocols, which were marked as being more likely to achieve success than earlier protocols. What the Gamma protocols are remains a mystery as most documents relating to them were destroyed, however by reviewing pieces from surviving documents certain facts become evident. The Gamma protocols were initiated with a combination of artificial designer DNA and Superior DNA samples from existing super powered individuals. Such manipulation of the Genetic Code at such a direct level naturally resulted in very high abortion and death rates among the initial prototypes as the interactions of the various genetic markers were documented. After conception the fetuses were closely monitored and were further altered via chemical injections, direct manipulation of cellular structures and Nanite injections developed by one disgraced Dr. Domna Dominion. 99% of the experiments resulted in nonviable fetuses leaving only 130 viable, over 80% of the viable fetuses were rejected or destroyed by birth defects or through the artificial modifications made to them, leaving 26 to reach maturity and be "birthed". Project ECCP/Gamma-12267 was one of those few that survived against all odds.
Early Life
Project ECCP/Gamma-12267 was educated initially using various psychic mind links and direct neural input while her body was subjected to multiple rapid growth and development treatments. The records show that once again the losses amongst the few that survived to this stage were in excess of 60% leaving only ten. Once a physical, educational, and mental maturity level of 10 years of age was achieved dedicated combat and loyalty training was initiated in earnest. All further education was dedicated to this end with all unnecessary elements eliminated from the training regimen. Project ECCP/Gamma-12267 was set on a path to a special set of clawed weapons for offense along with various martial arts and other disciplines for added offensive and defensive specialization. Records show that this state was reached in late 1997 for Project ECCP/Gamma-12267, she was the last one to survive to reach this level.
Rescue
In mid 1998 rumors reached the ears of a small independent group of heroes of the sale of "Super Soldiers" guaranteed to be the equal of any hero to the highest bidder by a small rogue group of scientists from the old Warsaw Pact nations. Working their sources they eventually uncovered and attacked the hidden base of operations of this group. Resistance from automated defense systems and robotic attack drones was stiff but strangly no "Super Soldiers" were encountered to resist their advance. Eventually the base was cleared and only Dr. Domna Dominion had managed to evade capture. Sadly they had arrived too late to save 9 of the 10 experiments, only Project ECCP/Gamma-12267 remained unsold, having been the last and youngest of the experiments. Oddly it seemed as if the escaping Dr. Domna Dominion had disabled the biological purge systems saving the life of Project ECCP/Gamma-12267 while allowing the other purge systems to destroy almost all documenation of the groups projects. It is unknown if Dr. Domna Dominion escaped with copies of these documents.
Having had no name and only a project classification, the rescuers dubbed the young girl Relana, why is unknown. She was handed into specialized foster care due to her unusual situation and responded well to a friendlier environment. Only 6 months later she was adopted by the Munson family.
A Family at Last
Sara and Joseph Munson were minor heroes in the magical field and members of the Midnight Squad. They eagerly took up the care of Relana and the years of 1999 to 2002 were some of the happiest she knew as she led a largely normal life with her new parents. She learned that they had previously had another daughter but that due to tragic circumstances had been forced to banish herself to a pocket dimension and was unlikely to ever return (see Nateshilan). Relana did very well in school rapidly catching up to where she should be and was quite active with a small number of close friends. At the aproximate biological age of 14 in the year of 2002 all this changed quite drastically.
Invasion
On May 23rd, 2002 the Rikti portals appeared. It rapidly became apparant that it was unlikely to be a peaceful encounted and the Midnight Squad and other hero organizations rapidly assembled. The attack was still a vicious assault that took everyone by surprise when it finally happened. The fighting was furious and magic was rapidly found to be one weapon the technologically advanced invaders had no defense against. Once this fact was clear to both sides the heroes used it as effectively as they could and the Rikti began to target magic wielding heroes as a first priority. Relana was right there when a Rikti plasma blast almost instantly incinerated the only family she had ever had as they tried to defend their world. In that moment all of her old training and implanted combat instructions came back to her and she immediatly charged into the battle against the Rikti. Details of what followed are sketchy as she was not an official part of any hero organization and thus not in any command structure on top of the chaos already present in the thoroughly ravaged hero ranks. However, many unconfirmed reports place Relana in the thick of many different battles against the Rikti at until they were eventually driven back into retreat. What happened to Relana in the chaos immediatly after the Rikti were defeated is unknown but eventually she turned up as a volunteer aiding in the reconstruction of the city.
The Return
It was in this chaos of reconstruction that Relana was eventually approached by a tall young woman in pitch black armor. This strange young woman introduced herself as Nateshilan and claimed to be the daughter of Relana's adopted parents. She had already learnt of her parents fate and having discovered Relana had been adopted by them had immediatly tracked her down. She assumed legal guardianship over Relana as her only surviving family member, though Relana did not seem to respond to her new sister as well as she had to her past parents.
In the following years Relana was known to have taken occassional forays out into the world of heroes, specifically heading out and investigating any rumored sightings of Rikti. She frequently skipped classes and her grades deteriorated as a result, though she was still able to maintain an overall passing grade. She never befriended anyone else to replace those friends she had lost and remained a sullen and somewhat moody teenager that often went out on her own. Upon graduation her sister was able to talk her into enrolling in a University removed from Paragon City for her advanced education.
A Higher Education
Her first two years at University away from home saw Relana finally break out of her long standing shell of isolation and slowly begin to make some new friends. Her grades improved and she appeared to finally be recovering from her earlier losses. It was also during this time that she began looking into her own past and origins and eventually tracked down one of her lost sisters and freed her from her enslavement and aiding her into integrating into society as a positive contributing member(see Aelurya). This may very well have been an important part of her own recovery as well.
And then the news reports of a second Rikti invasion began coming in. Having reached her legal majority Relana was no longer bound be her sisters will and had herself transfered back to Paragon to finish her classes there at PCU.
A Second Invasion
Upon arriving she immediatly returned to old habits losing contact with many of her newly made friends and skipping classes to pursue the Rikti invaders. As her grades dropped Nateshilan stepped in and had some words with her. Relana eventually did improve her schoolastic performance and began to maintain
