Upbringing
Youth
Derik was born into a rich family. His father was a proud owner of a multi-billion dollar company. his father, Michael Young had high hopes that Derik would one day own the company he built. Derik grew up with class, and was immediately put in Private School to learn. He took up fencing as a hobby, but his real passion was Archeology. He was a straight "A" student with promises to go to the top Archeologist School in the world.
However, his father did not approve. One night in an argument about Derik's future with his wife, Michael stormed off. Jennifer, Derik's mother, cried all night. Derik who was thought sleeping, was awoken by the screaming of his parents and wondered to hear what was said. Michael left the house in his car in a furious rage. Suddenly a glass could be heard shattering and Derik hid. Jennifer went to go see if it was Michael who had returned. When she located the person responsible, it was a masked man holding a gun. In shock, the masked man fired a round at Jennifer before bolting out the door. Jennifer looked over at the corner of the hallway to see Derik staring.
Blood was poring out of her stomach and she fell limp to the ground. Derik stood there unable to move. He was too scared to move. Moments later his father rushed into the front door seeing the glass on the ground. He looked over at the dying body of his wife's and rushed to her. He grabbed her tightly and saw Derik in the hallway. Derik could see the tears running down his face. A man in a suit rushed in and on a radio called in the event. The two were arguing about the incident.
Minutes later men rushed through the front door. They checked on Jennifer's vitals and looked at Michael. The indicated that she was gone. Michael fell to the ground speechless and crushed. Derik was pulled away from the scene by the guy in the suit and back to his room.
Chaos
Derik was motherless. He often became chaotic and rash when he did things. He was still in private school all the through high school. His father gave him everything. The loss of his wife over not letting Derik do what he dreamed of doing set him to a mourning state. From then on, Michael gave Derik everything he wished. Eventually, Michael's company was suffering. Without being able to tend to both Derik's needs and the need of his company, Michael settled on selling his company and focusing his time with his son.
It was in Derik's senior year. Derik was dating a punker girl and brought her home one night. In hopes to settle the night in with this girl, Michael confronted Derik of the idea and wished he take her home. Derik started arguing with his father and told him it was his fault his mother was dead. If they didn't argue, she would still be alive. Michael took the statement hard and went quiet. He retired to his room as Derik took his girl to his room.
The next morning Derik went to the kitchen for breakfast and noticed his father had no cook making it already. Disturbed by this, he went to yell at his father for not having it ready. When he walked to his father's door and knocked there was no answer. He opened the door to find his father on the bed. He was under the covers and appeared to be sleeping. When he went to wake him there was no response. Derik stepped back from him and rushed to the phone. He called the emergency line and told them his father was unresponsive. Derik looked at his father and his eyes began to water. On the night stand beside him was a letter.
Derik dropped the phone and rushed to the letter. He saw no name on the envelope as he opened it. It was a letter from the University of Cambridge. It was an acceptance letter stating Derik Young was accepted into the University. Derik fell to the floor holding the letter tightly.
