While test piloting an experimental jet in high atmosphere conditions, Air Force Captain Jason Starr’s aircraft was struck by an unknown energy source originating from beyond the Earth’s solar system. Three days later Captain Starr was located on a abandoned stretch of beach on the California shoreline, with no apparent memory prior to ejecting from his aircraft.

Examined by Air Force medical staff after his rescue, Captain Starr was given the news that his body had been subjected to a undetermined extraterrestrial energy source, which appeared to have altered his body’s molecular structure. Despite the efforts of both medical staff and various civilian experts the exact cause of his transformation was never explained. What was determined, however, was that Captain Starr's body had been “energized” by this unknown energy source and granted a remarkable array of amazing new powers: including the ability to project beams of energy at a target, flight, and limited range of invulnerability.

Adopting the code name Nova Fire, Captain Starr was commissioned by the United States Government to help safe guard the nation. In time his exploits and association with other heroes allowed him to join the All-star Sentinels of America, which would later evolve into The All Stars a world renowned group of super heroes who have sworn to become Earth’s champions.
