Origin

Born in 1929, Sonia was a female intern that worked on the Manhattan Project. As the war began, the Nazis grew more and more concerned over the role that the United States would play in the coming war.

With the assistance of the Reqieum and the Fifth Column, Germany instigated a covert operation in Independence Port aimed at shutting down the project that would grow into Terra Volta. After Requiem slaughtered most of the heroes that were charged with safeguarding the project. During the combat several beakers of a rare substance the government called "X-29" were upset and doused Sonia as she hid under a table. The reaction was immediate as her body seemingly was engulfed in ghostly white flames. Terrified Sonia leapt out a window into Independence Harbor vanishing into the water below.

Coming to on the beach of Terra Volta some time after Statesman had routed the Fifth Column with Atlas, Sonia found that she had gained the ability to control electromagnetic particles and fire blasts of plasma on will. Knowing the Nazi's had to be stopped, she paid a homage to the superheroine that inspired her as a child and created a costume loosely based off of Maiden Justice.

Personality

Powers

Energy Blast:

This was the most apparent side-effect to Sonia's exposure to X-29. A living solar panel, Paragon Maiden absorbs solar radiation and like a living conduit, is capable of firing bursts of energy from her hands at varying grades of strength.

Electricity Manipulation:

A secondary effect of exposure to X-29, Maiden's body creates a much higher level of electricity than the average human. In a manner much akin to a Electric Eel she can channel electricity in her body into devastating punches that strike with the force of a lightning bolt. With practice and training Sonia later learned to generate and sustain fields of electricity which she often uses to imprison criminals until the police can take over.

Flight:

By manipulating her own static field's frequencies she can provide a "opposite and equal reaction" by causing the waves that impact her body to give off counter currents. Through these pushes and thrusts she is able to fly, riding aircurrents and vibrations. In space, she sheathes herself in a protective shell of static energy and uses her energy blasts to provide the thrusts required to manuever.

Force Mastery:

Skilled in Psychokinesis, Sonia maintains a rudimentary skill in using it to protect herself. It has been speculated that she was a mutant before the accident, and that if she had not been exposed to X-29, she might of become a telepath on par with Sister Psyche.

Weaknesses

X-29:

Ironically Sonia is weakened the most by the very chemical that caused her superpowers to manifest in the first place. Exposure to X-29 breaks down the chemical makeup that binds her body together, and deprives her of the use of her powers. Although her powers are the first victims of exposure to X-29, prolonged exposure pulls her energy reserves from her, and causes her body to painfully regress to its biological human age. In 1984 the villain Doctor Voidrender managed to use a sample of X-29 to great effect, but discounted that Sonia, even as a aged woman still possessed several non super powered means to fight. Trained in Escrimia and Judo, she was able to defeat Doctor Voidrender with minimal difficulty. She then gave the radioactive material it to her sidekick Felicia Engel, who would later become the superheroine Voidshriek, with the instructions to use it if she ever goes rogue.

Given that her body is in a perpetual state of renewal, the effects of X-29 will no doubt become more dangerous and exceptionally lethal as she continues to live.

Burnout:

While studying herself and the effects that the consistent battles of the Rikti War had on her, Sonia realized that X-29 was merely the tip of a greater threat. Theoretically if her super powers lie at the core of her ability to channel solar energy and radiation into longevity and energy manipulation, then Sonia's greatest weakness lies not with X-29, but rather in her energy expenditure.

X-29 prevents her body from using her energy reserves. Under that logic if Paragon Maiden expended too much of her energy, and was cut off from a source of solar energy to renew it, her body logically could start a slow transition back to her true state and age. Thus if she truly burned herself out, she could literally die within days. Fortunatey, a good day at the beach is usually more than enough to halt a age reversion. Given time and more exposure to solar energy, her burned out reserves will slowly replenish themselves and her powers return.

Ex, X-29:

Badly degraded X-29 was once used by Monsieur Alto, and The Freaky Groove against her. Ex. X-29, causes Sonia's body to pull triple the amount of solar energy into her body while kicking her de-aging factor into overdrive. This caused her to turn into a child both mentally and physically for 24 hours, during a encounter in the 1960's. Her then partner, The Black Engel (Seiken) had to deal for the next 24 hours with a super-powered toddler, much to Emelyn's extreme dismay.

Potential Mutations:

Paragon Maiden's body remains in a transitionary phase due to her exposure to X-29. Lately its been noticed that her energy spectrum is growing in a manner much akin to Positron's. Whether this means that eventually her body will be unable to contain the energy she controls and be consumed by it, forcing her to a consigned existance in a powersuit as Positron was, Or if she is on the brink of transforming into something entirely different than her original human shape remains to be seen. So far, Sonia has feared that unknown and elected to keep a tight leash on her powers by expending excess amounts of energy that her body generates at the Verdugo Black Hole, a anomaly that exists some 72 lightyears away from earth.

History

Rogue's Gallery

Paste Eatting Pat

The terrifying Archon of Adhesives!

A sticky super villain capable of gumming up energy currents, he's rarely been seen since his first attempt to "stick it to the man" where he tried to glue the Mayor to his office furniture in retaliation for the demolition of his Horse Farm. PM reacted and used her talents to force Pat to glue his hands to his head. The villain has been stuck in the Zig (literally) since.

The Jerker

The conniving Sultan of Softdrinks

A super-powered soda jerk, obsessed with liquidating everything in sight. He attempted to carbonate the Mayor with his water blasts, but had his bubble burst when he was shaken and then stirred by a energy attack. The Jerker now resides in the Zig with Paste Eatting Pat, who claims he has too much "pop under the hood".

The Cosmic Fool

The Cosmic Fool, alias John Chelli; is a Master criminal with a jester like appearance, much resembling Yorick's skull from the Shakespearean play "Hamlet". He often has a Elizabethan air of regality around him. A violent sociopath who murders people for personal amusement "Great Tragedies" as he calls them, he's been responsible for countless tragedies in Maiden's life. It was the Fool who murdered Felicia and Emily's parents in King's Row under the orders of the Witch Lord.

The Cosmic Fool's greatest goal is to prove that anyone can have a "Great Tragedy" in their lives and become fortune's Fool as he did. He possesses a grotesque sense of showman-ship and warped sense of chivalry. His obsession with Engel has intensified since her mutant powers manifested, and he delights in battles of wits. His biggest threat is his lack of a truly dominant personality. One day he may be a harmless cackling Fool, the next a vindictive lunatic intent on gassing pre-schoolers. It all depends wholly on which one will benefit him the most. Recently he was invited to the Nightmare Society, and due to his resourcefulness has become the "Master of Chaos" one of the four prime leadership chairs in that organization.

Deathfog

Deathfog has emerged three times and the a collective name for a being that meshes Kheldian energy with a powerful body in the effort to create a unstoppable killing machine.

Deathfog V.1.0

This first incarnation was created by a unknown agency, The first Deathfog was created and unleashed around the time of the Rularuu invasion. A genic it mixed the DNA of the Rularuu and Nictus energy into a fearsome, (but highly unintelligent) beast. Guided by primal urges it cut a swath through Paragon, before being stopped by Moonflash and Ms. Serenity. It seemed to want to kill Moonflash for a unknown reason and disregarded everything else when it saw him.

Deathfog V.2.0

Deathfog version 2.0 was a creation of Dr. Moort. A crossbreed of the DNA strands of Luficia, Voidshriek, and Moonflash. It proved to be the weakest of the three current manifestations. This was due to the genetic code of the heroes being seperate from the source of their powers. Thus instead of the crossbred Nictus Demon that Moort had hoped for, he was given a sub-standard abomination. Grafting some extra parts to Deathfog Version 2, gave the monster some energy powers. It was killed by Moonflash in a matter of minutes, but served the purpose of allowing the mad Doctor to escape again.

Deathfog V.3.0

The Witch Lord

Julius Levine, alias Witch Lord Zaraknis

The Witch Lord, alias Julius Levine was the first major nemesis of Paragon Maiden's hero career. During his brief reign of mayhem she worked with The first Black Engel to stop him. Her biggest regret to this day is her inability to save Emelyn and his family from a reprisal attack that the Witch Lord launched which saw Emelyn's soul torn from his body, his children slain, and one of his granddaughters fused to a demon. See: Luficia Taking it upon herself to train Felicia as a second incarnation of The Black Engel, she is very proud of her former sidekick and often acts as a elder statesman for the sisters, drawing upon her experiences as a crime fighter to better teach them what it means to be a hero.

Recently Paragon Maiden has been heavily involved in a Portal Corps investigation on Praetorian Earth and seeks information on a mysterious Wizard who also calls himself the Witch Lord, and apparently is Tyrant's primary mystic.

Doctor Moort

Moort is a dirty, angry and twisted Eidolon of Dr. Vahzilok's. Having struck out on his own, Moort is constantly seeking ways to improve on his former boss' work. Less of a religious zealot and more of a competent Geneticist he often seeks ways to gain samples of DNA from varied heroes to create more powerful "Battle Bodies" for himself. More recently he attempted to crossbreed the DNA strands of Luficia, Voidshriek, and Moonflash. Fortunately the three heroes in question had gained their powers through a means that did not transfer into the crossbred Nictus Demon that Moort had hoped for. Deathfog Version 2, gained some minor energy powers and was summarily killed by Moonflash.
