Patriot Way
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
I designed this baddie to prove that villains could be patriotic, too. He's a reverse Captain America, representing all the ugliest traits Americans are often accused of. Patriot Way is xenophobic, greedy, arrogant, and nuclear powered. (For the record, Patriot Way is not meant as a political statement, and in fact, does not reflect my political opinions in the least. He's just an RP concept.)

The Patriot Way is a Soldier in The X-Patriots.
Origin
Stephen Sanchez was a mid-level analyst in the US government's Department of Superhuman Affairs. Sanchez was hard-working, patriotic, and appeared to have a bright future in government service ahead of him. Unfortunately, Sanchez was harboring some very radical ideas. Sanchez believed that Paragon City was overrun with superheroes wasting their power on minor crimes. He believed that a number of those heroes could be drafted into government service and molded into a small superpowered army, one capable of ending foreign conflicts quickly and decisively. His ideas were ignored. Surprised, Sanchez became obsessed with the idea and devoted himself to honing his proposal. It is at this time that he became convinced of the need for a preemptive strike force, one that could be used to end conflicts before they even start. This time, his idea was rejected out of hand as a model for global imperialism. Stunned and distraught, Sanchez appealed to the American people for support and released his plan on the internet in a manifesto entitled "The Patriot Way: Changing Tactics in an Increasingly Hostile Global Community." Once again, he was universally criticized. This event led to his firing from the DOSA.
Sanchez was shattered, as working for the government was the only job he found purpose in. It is unclear what pushed Sanchez over the edge (rumors of drug and alcohol abuse persist), but he decided to lash back at the DOSA. He broke into their tech labs, intent on stealing enough equipment to fund his own mercenary army (a "proof of concept" for the government.) He managed to procure two items, but the third (believed to be a Rikti weapon) was sealed. In his attempt to pry open the containment box, Sanchez unwittingly started a chain reaction. Lethal radiation poured into the facility, which locked down -- sealing Sanchez inside. No one is quite sure what happened next. One theory is that the items Sanchez stole somehow protected him, or changed the radiation's effect. In any event, instead of killing him, the radiation mutated Sanchez. He was blinded and hideously deformed, but his body absorbed an incredible amount of atomic energy, which he used to blast his way out of the locked down facility.
The incident pushed Sanchez over the edge into insanity. Although blinded, Sanchez's newfound power has replaced his sight with a kind of thermal sensory method. In Sanchez's mind, this is a sign. He was once blinded by the corruption and the false democracy of the United States, but now sees the country for what it is. He believes it is his destiny to raise his army of superpowered mercenaries in the Rogue Isles and reclaim his great homeland from the bloated system that is drinking it dry. And once that is done, freedom will finally be brought to the known world, whether they like it or not. Taking the name of his failed manifesto, The Patriot Way was born.
Powers
The Patriot Way is supercharged by atomic energy, which he can manipulate at will.
Radiation Blast
Patriot Way is able to fire blasts of atomic energy at anything in his path. The concentrated blasts land with concussive force, but also leave deep burns and blistering boils on his victims. Witnesses have seen him destroy a variety of items with these blasts, including large trucks and enormous vault doors. These blasts usually emanate from his hands, but he has been spotted burning two high-focus beams through his blind eyes.
Radiation Emission
Through experimentation Patriot Way has learned to use his power in unusual ways. He is able to infect his enemies with radiation sickness, making them much less effective in a fight. Some rumors say he has even found a way to cauterize or heal wounds with his radiation, although the science behind this is unknown.
Other Powers
Speed
The radiation coursing through his body allows The Patriot Way to temporarily speed up his metabolim. This can result in a variety of effects, but he most often uses it to run at superhuman speeds to dart his way through the Rogue Isles.
Equipment
The Patriot Way received his powers during an attempted theft from which he was able to score two items. One is a prototype Nemesis Staff, capable of shooting high-impact force blasts. The other is a magical axe that appears to be designed for fighting supernatural and undead threats. Patriot Way has found this one most useful in battling the deadly Shivans on Bloody Bay. Patriot Way has proven to be a collector of sorts, gathering several useful items to complement his powers such as jump packs, hover-machines, and stealth suits.
Abilities
Patriot Way was once a reasonably skilled computer user with the ability to "hack" into any system he wished. Since the incident, he has not had much opportunity to use his skills and it is possible he will soon fall out of practice.
He speaks both English and Spanish fluently.
The Patriot Way is blind, having lost his sight in the accident that gave him his powers. This has not been a limitation for him, though, as his mutation gave him a sort of thermal sense to see what is going on around him. He is able to detect the minor natural radiation emissions present in most items, including living beings, which creates a clear picture for his mind. Contrary to rumor, this grants Patriot Way no special or extra-sensory powers. It only makes him functional.
Personality
Patriot Way is still adjusting to his new life, and his personality is exhibiting signs of the strain. For the most part, he is bold and patriotic, as if unaware of which side of the tracks he is dwelling. On the other hand, this facade doesn't last under pressure. When threatened, Patriot Way grows cold and mean, capable of incredible psychopathic cruelty. Some have theorized that the accident created two personalities in his mind, but it is more likely that his patriotic demeanor is a show and that the cruel Patriot Way is the "real" one.
