Personality
Usually very serious and silent, Piyerus usually prefers to sit back and observe, only speaking when he feels it necessary. As such he remains an enigma to most. However, he has been known to open up a bit more with his close friends. Piyerus has a severe dislike of Rikti, Crey, and more recently the Circle of Thorns, and will be particularly ruthless when dealing with them. He has been known to be much more lenient on other villain groups though.
Powers
Piyerus has a variety of flame based powers, and uses a variety of gadgets to fill in the blanks. After spending a few years in Paragon and training under some of the best heroes the city has to offer, he's mastered most of his powers.
Fire Blast
Basic Powers
Piyerus is able to create bursts of flame and hurl them at enemies. This flame is somewhat odd in nature, because it doesn't seem to cause long term physical burns (leading some to believe they may be illusionary or psychic in nature, though nothing has been confirmed). While the flames don't cause any real damage, they sure FEEL like they do, and can easily overload a person's pain receptors, leading to shock and unconsciousness. Through this method, Piyerus is able to capture and arrest foes non-lethally. It appears that Piyerus DOES have the ability to focus his flames to do real damage, however, as he sometimes uses it to destroy inanimate objects, or robots.
Though most of Piyerus' fire abilities are very simple (throwing fireballs and such), he does have a few more complex moves. He can gather a huge amount of power and release it all at once, either in a beam or a huge explosion... although these aren't much more than simple tricks compared to his more advanced abilities.
Advanced Powers
After much training, Piyerus has managed more controlled uses for his flame. This flame master greatly aids him, though not via direct attack abilities. For example, Piyerus can create a thin layer of flame millimeters from his skin to protect him from physical attacks, as well as other fire attacks or cold damage... Although it takes some concentration and he can lose his shield when pressured.
By burning some of the materials around him and directing them at an enemy, he can also effectively hold them for a short while, as they try to recover and regain their breath again after being charred by the soot and embers.
One of Piyerus' most impressive feats of flame mastery allows himself to instantly regain consciousness and get back into a fight, after being dealt and incapacitating blow, and even heal some of his injuries. Although it wouldn't let Piyerus recover from a truly fatal injury, it's more than enough for him to regain himself after most defeats, Rising like a Phoenix from the ashes. Even after he's given his all and failed, Piyerus' flame of justice continues to burn strong.
Gadgets and Devices
For as long as he can remember, Piyerus has always been interested in gadgets of all sorts. At first he had trouble controlling his abilities, so relied on some devices he managed to salvage from the ruins after the Rikti war to fill in his arsenal. As time went on, he learned more and more about how things worked, and eventually became a decent inventor. He began to modify his devices into more advanced gadgets, and relies on them as much as his powers. No longer just tools, Piyerus's gadgets are every bit as important as his flame powers.
Devices such as his cloaking device, targeting drone, or a compressed storage unit (allowing him to carry a near-unlimited amount of caltrops, web grenades, trip mines, and even a portable turret) allow Piyerus to wreck havoc upon his foes.
Additional Powers
Power Catalyst
Due to the nature of how he got his powers, Piyerus is a "power catalyst" of sorts, and his blood can be used to manifest or augment powers in other people. It has been speculated that this is actually Piyerus's true power, and his flame abilities are just a manifestation of this. Or in other words, he gave himself super powers. Due to Piyerus' power to give others powers, he is sometimes sought after by villain groups. Though his ability to give powers by his blood is only temporary, a group in the Rogue Isles has managed to create a stable, permanent serum using his blood.
Magic Resistance
Piyerus has an unusually high resistance to magic, due to the unique ways his powers manifested. Simple charms, spells, curses, and attempts to scry Piyerus has little to no effect. Advanced or very powerful spells have some effect, though they have a chance to backfire or cause unexpected, seemingly random results.
Flight
Piyerus is able to fly, though it is unknown if this is related to his fire abilities or a separate super power. His flight speed is above average.
Weaknesses and Limitations
Although Piyerus has a high resistance to magic, this applies to the good as well as the bad. Curative magic or other helpful spells have a lessened effect on Piyerus. In addition, portals that are magical in nature tend to leave Piyerus disoriented for a short while.
Equipment
Other than his devices, Piyerus also carries around a number of items he recovered from various enemy groups. Though his most used possessions are his Nemesis Staff and a pouch full of the Sands of Mu, Piyerus also carries a large assortment of tools and equipment. From kinetic shields to guns, to targeting modules for nuclear missile barrages... Piyerus has an assortment of gathered tools to take on almost any situation.
Character History
Hero Registration Description
The following is the information that was entered into the official Paragon City hero registry for Piyerus.
At the onset of the first Rikti War, Piyerus was a normal person. But that all changed when a portal opened above his hometown, and a warship obliterated everything. Piyerus lost it all... His home, his family, even his real name and memory. Half dead and defenseless, he was taken as a prisoner of war, and subjected to all sorts of experiments as the Rikti struggled to understand their heroic foes a little better. What is it that makes a man a Hero?
Luckily, the Rikti never learned the answer. The ship Piyerus was in was destroyed, and crashed into the ocean. Piyerus, still asleep in stasis, was "salvaged" by Crey scavangers, who brought him to Paragon and continued the experiments, learning from the Rikti alterations. However, their methods were clumsier... and Piyerus regained conciousness, escaping.
With no memory and no purpose, Piyerus emerged outside to find himself surrounded by ruin and distress. And thus, a man became a Hero.
Further Development
At first Piyerus had little control over his powers and abilities, and was given a low security level until he could train more. His mentality was somewhat childish, but at the time he harbored dark thoughts of vengeance and stuck close to them as his life goals. Starting with small street crime, it was a slow and painful journey for Piyerus to work his was up to the big leagues. It took him some time to get back to his old foes, both Crey Industries and the Rikti... However, by the time he was strong enough to fight them, he had also grown up mentally, and no longer wanted revenge for the sake of revenge. He did, however, strongly wish to bring them to justice for their evil ways. Because of his shift in views, Piyerus has no problem dealing with Traditionalist Rikti, as he feels they're doing the right thing.
Piyerus has gained many new enemies in his journey to becoming a hero of the city, and nearly every gang in the city has known his justice. However, one group that has been a particular thorn in his side is the Circle of Thorns. His "power catalyst" and "magic resistance" aspects are both very interesting to these mages, and they hunt him relentlessly. As a result, Piyerus often finds himself in conflict with the mages, and knows their ancient city of Oranbega like the back of his hand. The fact that their ancient halls are so easily transversed by one of their hated enemies irks the Circle to no end.
