Background
Valerie Rockwell along with her twin brother, Jake were born in the year 2013 to those stalwarts of the Golden Age Heroes, PinUp Girl and Proud Citizen.
Val and Jake were trained from an early age in all aspects of crime-fighting by their heroic parents in the event that they decided carry on the family tradition. Jake would share their mother’s control over magical darkness and become a master of the katana. Val, bitterly disappointed that she inherited no mystical abilities would throw herself into her martial arts training with zeal and capitalise on her outstanding technological skills.
The twins would indeed follow in their parents footsteps. In their mid-teens, Val and Jake joined the future incarnation of the Young Gods of the Golden Age and took to the streets of Paragon City to fight evil and injustice as Poster Girl and Young Citizen.
Brash and hot-headed, Valerie is very much an advocate of the ‘hit first and ask questions later’ approach to crime-fighting. There is nothing that Val likes better than a good brawl and the gangs of Paragon city have learned that this young lady is not to be messed with.
As the rebel in the Rockwell clan, Val seems to take great delight in cultivating a tough-talking, bad-girl image (as her long suffering brother can attest to). Rarely a week goes by where Val cannot be found sneaking out of the house late at night to join her friends for some hard partying til the wee small hours.
However underneath her tough exterior, Valerie has a kind heart and a strong sense of justice. She cannot abide a bully would never stand by and watch innocent people hurt.
Despite the fact that she gives them much cause for aggravation, Val idolises her parents. This has actually caused her a degree of self-doubt however as Val believes that she could never be as beautiful as her mother or as skilled a martial-artist as her father. It is this doubt that she tries to hide beneath her fiery and outgoing exterior.
And although they argue and bicker constantly, Val has an abiding love and affection for her brother, Jake. Val would never admit it to anyone but she is keenly aware that she is a much more effective hero with her brother by her side to curb her temper and make level-headed judgements.
Having trained together as a team since they were very young has made the siblings a remarkably effective crime-fighting unit. Proud Citizen has remarked that, “The rate at which their skills improve is nothing short of amazing” while PinUp Girl has said, “Those two are a force to be reckoned with as it is. Imagine how good they are going to be five years from now.”
Over the past year Valerie and Jake have been travelling back in time to present-day Paragon City using a time-machine constructed by Val herself. At first these trips were to aid their friend Hyperion Girl in her mysterious mission to the past. However Val simply could not resist the temptation to travel back on a regular basis to observe the younger versions of their parents and the rest of the GAH. Unable to convince her that these temporal jaunts are risky, Jake usually accompanies Val to ensure that his sister doesn’t inadvertently change history or cause the universe to implode.

Skills and abilities
Despite her youth, Val is a highly advanced hand-to-hand combatant, having been trained by her parents since she was a child. Her fighting style is an amalgamation of those of her parents incorporating techniques from Krav Maga, Savate and various Japanese martial disciplines. Recently, she has independently sought out and begun training with a master of the Indonesian martial art called Silat. Valerie has proven more than capable of holding her own against highly trained Tsoo warriors and members of the New Malta Group Spec Ops.
Although Val’s dislike for school and her formal studies is no secret, she is a natural genius when it comes to science, engineering and technology. This young lady would be hard pressed to find Australia on a map or tell you who the 45th President was but if you need gadgets then she’s your girl. The power-suit and jump boots that Val wears are of her own design and construction. The current pinnacle of her technological skills is of course her ‘Temporal Slipstream’ device which she and her brother have been using to travel back in time to present-day Paragon city. Val’s love of tinkering with technology has proved of great benefit to her and her family. It has however also come close to wiping their entire house off the map on more than one occasion. When Valerie utters the words, “I’ll be in my workshop if you need me”, it’s a sure sign for the rest of the Rockwell family to batten down the hatches.
Valerie is also an accomplished gymnast, winning a number of regional and state championships. Her gymnastics coach has commented that Val could make it to Olympic level, “if she just knuckled down and stopped skipping practice so often”.
Equipment
POWER SUIT:
Val's power suit has the following specifications;
- Superior protection from blades and all but the largest calibre firearms.
- Moderate protection from blunt-force trauma.
- Strength augmentation. When this function is activated, the suit will magnify Val’s strength by a factor of four. Val prefers to rely on her combat skills rather than brute strength in a fight so she tends to use this feature only in emergencies or when fighting opponents such as robots and constructs.
- Insulation. Val’s suit is capable of protecting her from extreme temperatures at both ends of the spectrum. With the collapsible hood covering her head, Val can easily make her way through a burning building or walk comfortably through the Artic tundra.
- The suit also provides limited protection from electricity but tends to be vulnerable to pure energy and mystical attacks.
- Val’s mask contains thin lenses and circuitry that allows a variety of vision modes including telescopic, microscopic, night-vision and infra-red.
UTILITY BELT:
Val's utility belt holds a variety of items, including;
- Re-breather.
- Grapnel and line.
- Flex cuffs.
- Throwing stars.
- Anaesthetic gas pellets.
- Emergency med-kit.
- Can of Secura-Foam™ (a rapidly expanding foam capable of incapacitating a felon)
- Sonic screechers (a device that emits a high-pitched and disorienting sonic scream)
- Tracking bugs.
- Compact and hairbrush.
Trivia
- Shares her mother’s tendency to feel ill after using any form of teleportation.
- Has inherited her father’s terrible sense of direction.
- Although she would never admit it to anyone, Val is a huge fan of 1980’s rock music. Her favourite bands and performers of the time include, Bon Jovi, Guns N' Roses, Stan Bush and John Parr.
- Loves chocolate.
- Once dated a young man who turned out to be a lycanthrope.
- Was kicked out of the Girl Scouts when she was eleven years old for allegedly instigating what became known as “The Great Girl Scout Cookie Sale Brawl of 2024”. An allegation which, to this day, Val strenuously denies.
- Spends inordinate amounts of time and technological skill coming up with ways to annoy her brother (she once shunted his entire bedroom into a quantum singularity).
- Dreams of one day starting up her own technology corporation, ‘ValCorp’.
