Notorious Precious Bounty

"Amelia is a pretty little amateur pirate whose ship was recently attacked. It wasn't the first time she'd been on a boarded vessel; weeks ago, while raiding a ship full of pricey TVs, pirates snatched the fleeing young stowaway. Ironically, they’d been after a flatscreen.

Stockholm Syndrome's fun when the pirates are video pirates, but just as shy, buxom, bewitching Amelia grew accustomed to her new seafaring home, Arachnos attacked! She was captured again, yet escaped due to a magic invisibility potion the ship's wise, witchy cook Eve, gave her. But just when the coast was clear she was tossed into the Zig by some capes!

Luckily, her stay was short and she's using her newfound sea-witch-crafty ways to get back to her Captain, even though he's old and gross and obsessed with despoiling her virtue. After all, she's HIS Precious Bounty. And it wouldn't be pirates without raping and pillaging of some kind, right?

Oh, and she thinks your theme song sucks."

Physical Description

Amelia stands around 5'3" tall in heeled boots, which are incidentally her most favorite part of her wardrobe. Amelia is a full-figured young lady with a strikingly pale complexion, long auburn-brown hair, and green eyes. She's typically dressed in a dove grey strapless bustier and a navy blue and gold-threaded plaid skirt. She wears an old naval dress jacket - again, navy blue accented with gold - with torn-off sleeves and a skull and crossbones emblem on the left breast pocket. Accents to Amelia's wardrobe include the aforementioned folded boots, which are made of rough leather stitched up the back and complimented with wooden heels, as well as matching fingerless gloves, a low-slung belt made from a shrunken head and bones dipped painted with gold and woven together with fishnet, and a navy blue bandanna around her head. Amelia carries a knapsack with her to store her possessions and supplies; however, due to the likelihood of theft in the Isles, she has coated the outside of the bag and its straps with her modified invisibility potion, so that it may remain secret. Ironically, Amelia's most prized possession is in plain view: her blue-tinted reticle, placed over her right eye, which allows her to stalk her targets more easily in dark or hazy conditions.

Amelia regularly wears two other outfits, one being the set of clothes she wore during her capture by the pirates, and the next a recent creation of her own. The first outfit is a blue-green strapless bustier, a white pleated skirt with blue detail, plus white tights and brown strappy dress shoes with heels. She wears a blue jacket with a white trident symbol on the left breast over this. Occasionally, she will exchange the jacket for a blue lace shawl around her shoulders. Amelia never wears this set of clothes in combat, and can most likely be seen dressed like this at Pocket D or the University in Cap Au Diable. (It is somewhat of a "schoolgirl" outfit.)

Amelia's other outfit, the newest one, is a blue-green scaled dress that looks as though it could be made from the tail of a mermaid, though Amelia would find that horrible. A shell design is cut out of the dress below her collarbone, revealing a provocative but tasteful amount of décolletage. The dress is accented by an old belt again made from shrunken heads and fishnet, though this time the bones are left natural-looking, plus a black buccaneer hat and black, rough leather boots identical to her brown ones. This is draped by a lacy black cape given to her by the Facemaker. Amelia refers to this as her "sea witch dress" or "mermaid dress," and she rarely wears it in combat (although it sometimes can't be avoided). Rather, this is more of a party dress used for celebrations, or simply a change of pace when she is tired of her "schoolgirl" clothes.

Background and Biography

Spoiler warning: Details about a player-created storyline, or information currently unrevealed about a character, follow.

Early Life

Amelia was born and raised in the Midwest, growing up landlocked. Her beloved father passed away when she was eight and she and her younger sister were raised by their widowed mother. As a child, she was shy, studious, and ridiculously accommodating to her over-authoritative mom and demanding, self-centered little sister. Her natural curiosity led her to reading and the exploration of hobbies like gadget-collecting and computers, but also to many put-downs by her impatient mother, who hated answering too many questions.

Adolescence left Amelia, like many young girls, bitter and unhappy with her lot in life. She began to develop a pessimistic world view and a biting sense of sarcasm to match. She did excellent in school, but only because she knew she had to do so to get along; her social life there was another story entirely, and a bad one at that. It was around this time that Amelia began to study world religions in her free time, being an agnostic who found herself disillusioned and disgusted by her hypocritical neighbors in the Bible belt. She found herself inexplicably drawn to the tenets and rituals of witchcraft, although she would not call herself a witch for several years to come.

Amelia's Capture

When Amelia turned eighteen, the great-aunt who had raised her father passed away after a long convalescence, and so left her and her younger sister a tidy inheritance. After graduating high school with flying colors, Amelia was allowed by her mother to choose where she wanted to take her summer vacation with her newfound wealth. Amelia chose Cape Cod, always having been an avid fan of New England history and also very fascinated by the sea, which she had never seen for herself. She had a special connection with the ocean that she couldn't quite explain, but had always felt deeply.

So, Amelia, her mother, and her sister flew to Boston, drove down to the Cape, and stayed in a resort in North Falmouth, Massachusetts. There, Amelia spent several days visiting beach shops, enjoying fresh seafood, and finally swimming in the ocean - a lifelong dream. She had a new glow about her after her first swim that even her mean-spirited family couldn't ignore.

However, on the last day of this blessed vacation, Amelia's mother and sister had an uncharacteristic fight, since the two were as thick as proverbial thieves. Both inexplicably blamed Amelia's choice of vacation spot for their altercation. Fed up with her selfish family, Amelia took her most precious possessions and fled incognito to Boston, where she spent a day visiting landmarks and trying to keep her cool. When she checked her voicemail that night and learned that her mother was using the GPS device on her cell phone to get the police to track her, Amelia ditched her precious gadget and decided to ditch for good. She took a cab down to Boston Harbor, where a ship had just come in from Japan bringing electronic goods to ship to retail chain stores in the area. Taking a chance and just wanting to get away, Amelia was able to sneak into this ship's cargo hold and stow away.

Within hours of the ship's departure from Boston, Amelia heard what she thought was gunfire above and realized the ship had stopped moving. Suddenly, the cargo hold was flooded with what Amelia believed only existed in movies anymore - pirates! They began to rifle through the expensive electronics as Amelia tucked herself away, hoping she wouldn't be noticed. But eventually one of the scoundrels did notice her, and Amelia found herself surrounded by guys in bandannas and hip boots. She managed to clock a couple of them before they overpowered her and took her above deck, where she was amazed to see before her a Spanish galleon bearing a Jolly Roger flag. She was immediately brought on board.

As other pirates began to bring the stolen goods aboard the pirate ship, Amelia found herself suddenly standing before the man that the others called their Captain - a short, stocky, fishbelly-white complexioned man in his late fifties with white hair and whiskers. He was dressed in a blue naval dress uniform with gold trim, the cuffs frayed and the fabric wrinkled and faded with age. He leered at her and ordered the men to take her to his quarters. She was dragged there kicking and screaming, and soon found herself locked in an opulent bedroom, terrified of the events to come.

Amelia was weighing her options for several minutes when another door into the room opened and a striking older woman in her late-fifties entered. She was tall with a generous figure, long gray hair, deep blue eyes, and wearing a long plain gown and apron that contrasted with her shiny leather boots and the gold bangles on her wrists. She was Eve Galley, the ship's otherworldly cook and nurse. Eve invited Amelia into the bathroom that joined her and the Captain's bedrooms, and while Amelia cleaned up, Eve told her the story of the pirates.

Apparently, the Captain - Eve's brother - had been a bayman off Cape Cod for many years when he became disillusioned with the over-regulated state of fishing in the area. Broke and desperate, he asked his older sister for advice. She, having been quite enterprising in her younger years, suggested the only thing that came naturally to her, and the two of them began to use his trawler to raid others' catches. Using the money from his stolen catches, and with the help of several enterprising young deckhands, he was able to buy bigger and bigger ships, and make bigger and bigger raids. Finally, on a trip down to the Caribbean moving various stolen goods, he found the ship they currently called their home - a Spanish galleon inexplicably for sale by some of Eve's old associates. After several repairs and some expensive modern technological upgrades, performed by even more talented young men who'd joined his ranks, his ship - the Elizabeth Dane - was ready to set sail. They returned to New England where they continued their piracy, returning often to the Rogue Isles to sell their stolen goods.

Eve assured Amelia that the other pirates posed no threat to her, and that Eve could easily keep the Captain from doing anything unsavory while Amelia stayed with them and decided what to do. After her bath Amelia went to Eve's room to rest, and the Captain angrily entered after some time demanding to know just what Eve was doing with his "precious bounty." Eve managed to get him to beg off by telling the him to give her some time "to come around," and the Captain begrudgingly agreed. In the meantime, he said that Amelia, "looking suited to woman's work," might make a good cook's assistant...

Precious on the buoy.

A Pirate's Life For Amelia

Amelia spent several weeks on board the Elizabeth Dane. In time, she found herself growing fond of the other pirates, who were mostly harmless young men around and under the age of thirty. Their primary needs seemed to be centered around watching TV, playing video games, and eating junk food. They were a good group of guys with which to hang out, and many of them even helped teach Amelia self-defense after being impressed at how she held her own on the day she was captured. She found herself thinking of them as brothers she never had, and of Eve Galley as the mother she'd always wished she had.

The older woman was wise and mysterious, and after they had established a warm friendship, Eve began to teach her about some of the witchcraft Amelia had read about as a girl. Amelia found quite herself talented in understanding the intricacies of magic spells and rituals. As an Earth sign (Taurus) and a formerly landlocked young lady, Amelia was at first drawn to the Earth - mud, mountains, plants, and rocks - as her magical focus; in time, though, her love of the sea and her new closeness to it took precedence and she began to concentrate on water magic. Harnessing the power of the moon and the ocean, Amelia created magical candles, herbal potions, teas, and talismans - most often infused with sea water, sea salt, and seaweed - that aided in everything from first aid to good luck to protection against enemies.

And by praying to the rulers of those realms - Poseidon, Triton, Selene, Artemis, and the water nymphs and mermaids - Amelia felt a more personal power inside her begin to grow. This power was strange and inexplicable to her at first, but she would later learn to use it in ways that would allow her to survive on her own. As Eve Galley watched Amelia's progress, she told the young woman that while she was just beginning to learn witchcraft, her natural taking to it must mean that she had always been a witch.

As for the Captain, the most threat he posed to Amelia's virtue was drunken groping in the hallways and constant leering the rest of the time. Strangely, she found herself both disgusted and intrigued by him at the same time. He was certainly revolting, but there was something sad and noble about him underneath his boorish veneer that Amelia found herself drawn to. Occasionally, his eyes would soften and appear kind, and the smile on his lips was not so much lascivious as it was lonely.

The night of the Arachnos attack, the pirates of the Elizabeth Dane had just completed a fantastically profitable raid on several ships bearing, again, electronics - this time already pre-stolen from Paragon City by associates of the Family. The ocean had stirred up a strong storm, but the crew were having a party, complete with loud music, dancing, and lots of alcohol. Amelia had served as lookout during the raid, and her quick thinking and sudden magical prowess prevented a group of her shipmates from being shot by a guard on the cargo ships; she was able to stun the guard at long-range with a sea salt-infused charm she'd made on instinct. As a reward for her loyalty to the crew, Amelia was sworn in as an official pirate, and Eve presented her with a jacket she had worn as a young woman while sailing in the Caribbean.

The usually-shy Amelia partook of the evening's festivities, drinking and dancing with her friends. However, one too many ill-drunk Bloody Marys landed her in what could have been a compromising position with none other than the Captain himself, much to his delight (and hers, however secret and shameful). Unfortunately, the two of them were rudely interrupted by gunfire above deck...

Arachnos, The Zig, and Beyond

While the Captain rushed above, gun in hand, Amelia found herself panicking. She stashed a few prized possessions in her clothing and ran to the galley where she was met by Eve, who gave her a glass with an earthy, salty-smelling liquid in it, with crushed herbs floating on the surface. Eve told her to hurry and drink it, and just as Amelia had finished Eve pushed her through a small trap door in the floor and told her to run for the ocean. Unfortunately, Amelia ran right into a Fortunata Seer instead, and was stunned and dragged above deck. She saw her shipmates being chained and loaded into Arachnos helicopters; Eve and the Captain were nowhere to be found. It was the last time she saw any of her friends.

After her helicopter touched down in the Rogue Isles, Amelia was loaded by herself into a van and driven for about an hour in an unknown direction. But when they stopped and the back door was opened, the Arachnos operatives seemed unable to see Amelia. She was nearly as confused as they were, but realized Eve's potion must have turned her invisible. While the Wolf Spiders searched the van, Amelia slipped away and found herself in an entirely new environment, alone and unprepared in this new world. She walked for a bit down some dirty streets when she came across a group of caped individuals making arrests. She attempted to avoid them, but apparently her control over her newfound invisibility was tenuous at best and she was noticed by the heroes. Without even asking whether or not she'd done anything wrong, they immediately arrested her too. And simply by virtue of having been arrested by such heroic and virtuous individuals, Amelia was flown 'back' to Paragon City and thrown into Zigursky Prison without so much as being read her Miranda rights.

Her stay in the Zig was incredibly short - only hours after being tossed into a jail cell, a prison break orchestrated by none other than Arachnos was underway! Knowing she couldn't trust either the "heroes" defending the prison or her new rescuers, Amelia went with the lesser of two evils - for now - and stowed away on an Arachnos helicopter which took her to Mercy Isle. She had been summoned to stand before Kalinda the Fortunata, but by this point she'd taken quite the exception with Fortunatas. Amelia slipped away and ran into Matthew Burke, whose dislike of Arachnos immediately endeared him to her.

And the rest, we say, is back up there in the Threat ID card.

Spoilers end here.

Current Goings-On

Life in the Isles

Now working as a mercenary, Amelia has become introduced to new contacts all over Mercy, Port Oakes, and Cap Au Diable. She is hoping to save enough money and gather enough information so that she might be reunited with her pirate friends, especially Eve and the Captain, who she misses dearly. She was affiliated with the villain group The Federation of Evil (FOE) for sometime after first escaping the Zig, and remains on good terms with their members after their invaluable help to her. Formerly homeless and scrounging for food, Amelia is now privileged enough to live in a single dorm room at Aeon University in Cap Au Diable, where she is pretending to earn a degree in marine biology.

The Dread Aces

While passing some free time at the dreaded Pocket D, Amelia met and befriended The Crimson Cutlass, who later invited to join her group of sky pirates, The Dread Aces. Normally one is inducted for life, and leaving constitutes, shall we say, expiration of one's worldly contract. However, the Cutlass made a special exception for Amelia that, once she found the Elizabeth Dane and its (hopefully) surviving crew, she would be allowed to rejoin them and remain on good terms with the Aces.

Though as diverse as can be, the Aces were certainly welcoming to her, and so Amelia seems to have found herself a good group with which to associate herself. She counts Crimson, Sungazer, Dead Eye Jake, and Jet Nitro as some of her closest friends. She also remains on friendly terms with former Aces such as Felis Noctu and Steinstrom Jaeger.

Eve's Return

After hearing rumors about an odd looking ship off the coast of Nerva, Amelia bade The Crimson Cutlass to go investigate for her. What C.C. found there was a dinghy from the Elizabeth Dane, which, with the help of C.C.'s associate Hellcat Jones, they were able to bring back to the Aces' warehouse. This gave Amelia new hope in finding her seafaring crew again.

Then Amelia found a note in her mailbox at the University, in a coded language that she knew to be Eve Galley's. She was asked to meet her at Fort Hades in Port Oakes, where Eve was preparing to "settle a grudge." Amelia was reunited with her teacher and friend, but the two were immediately attacked by Night Haunts and Red Hands. Help was received in the form of Steinstrom, and then a large portion of the Aces came to help Eve and Amelia in their endeavor. When the battle was finished, Eve was introduced to the Cutlass, who kindly welcomed her into the fold as well.

Seriously, Current Stuff

Amelia has recently forged a friendship with ex-Arachnos citizen The Remorseful Rogue, also known as Ro. She has also met Ro's associate Hollow Victory, another witch with dark powers, and seems to have made tentative friends with her, too.

Amelia and Eve Galley are currently looking to relocate to Nerva Archipelago, probably somewhere in the vicinity of Granny Beldam's shack. They plan to continue practicing their witchcraft and are still on the lookout for their missing crew and Captain.

Abilities

Though Amelia's career as a pirate and a villain has been relatively short, she has garnered some fantastic powers so far, obtained both magically and naturally. She also relies on several trusty accessories to help her along in her villainous endeavors.

Hand-to-Hand Combat

Amelia is naturally tough, and was taught many self-defense techniques by her pirate brethren. She decided to forgo weapons and use only her fists to fight. Amelia has never thought much of her upper body strength, but her punches have become her primary tool against the offensive maneuvers of others. Not one to ignore her strongest muscles - her legs, toned from swimming - Amelia has since incorporated some kicking attacks into her fighting style. Coupled with the power from spells taught to her by Eve Galley, these combined attacks are very bad news for unwitting enemies. Her power has become so great that she can now take down a foe with a single blow, provided the unlucky one is unknowing of Amelia's coming attack.

Physical Prowess

Amelia has naturally quick reflexes and seems to have a talent for acrobatic maneuvers. Though she has never considered herself athletic, and her body type is not what you'd normally think of as suited to strenuous physical activity, those last few weeks swimming and swinging from ropes have paid off. She has turned into quite a fast runner and jumping to avoid obstacles has become second nature to her.

Natural Defenses and First Aid

Amelia possesses an incredibly resilient healing process and her body repairs itself at an astounding rate. In addition, she has moderate resistance to many types of damage wielded upon her. And, although she was somewhat sickly growing up, Amelia's immune system seems to be almost otherworldly strong now. Almost too strong. As Eve Galley was the nurse on the Elizabeth Dane, the older woman also taught Amelia medical magic: through psychic concentration Amelia is able to siphon power from enemies in times of need to supplement her own healing. While all of this is almost always supplemented with magical protection or enhancement, most of the above abilities are natural to Amelia, either innately or from experience.

Magic

Thanks to Eve Galley's potion, Amelia has been granted the power to turn herself invisible at will. It was especially helpful during her first days in the Rogue Isles, where Snakes and thugs on the streets outnumbered and outmatched her. Amelia keeps her control over her invisibility strong by preparing a similar potion every day, made with special herbs and blessed by magic ritual. Since Eve's return, Amelia's mentor has lately been teaching her the magic of controlling the wind, particularly that of the sea. Spells, strengthened by more potions given to her by Eve, now allow Amelia to use the air as transportation.

Equipment

Amelia in her usual state of mind: quiet consternation.

Personality

Though pirates usually tend toward the brave and boastful, by contrast Amelia is generally quiet and quite shy at times. This is not to say she is a total wallflower - when provoked, she is ready to defend herself, first with words and then with her fists if necessary.

Sometimes, when in full Precious Bounty mode, she may put on more of a brave front than she truly possesses, and her sarcastic wit comes to the forefront. This is most likely overcompensation for her diffidence in regular dealings with others. When challenged in this frame of mind, she is more likely to back down than ever. Growing a thicker skin is one of Amelia's biggest goals in her current life.

Amelia's code of morality falls, like most people's, in the gray area. She isn't an "evil" cold-blooded killer, but she will do anything to protect herself. "Protecting herself" also means being able to eat, sleep restfully, and buy things she needs and wants, so it wouldn't be out of line to call her mercenary, at least.

Still, she isn't bent on world domination or the total destruction of everyone's good times. Everyone needs some good times - even heroes. She just wants to get back to her ship already.

Strengths

These are the positive things that even doubting Amelia can't deny about herself:

Weaknesses...?

Unfortunately, Amelia has a few personality traits that may end up being hindrances to her as well:
