Biography
Early Life
Xale Rifter was born to Queen Isabel and Prince Zacarias in Xionness, a country in a dimension much like Earth's. A healthy baby overall despite having snow-white hair and a slight purple undertone, Xale enjoyed the finest things in life - being royalty had its perks. As was custom amongst bloodline royals, Xale could control gravity - though at an early age. If he dropped a toy, he'd have it float right back up to his hand and these powers came in handy often. Despite living such a fantastic lifestyle, Xale did not get to interact with many people his own age. As often and hard as he tried, the constant security proved to be too uncomfortable for his associates.
Betrayal
One cold, snowy night, Prince Rifter was shaken away from a deep slumber. Tek'ar urged the prince to wake and dress before following him down the stairs, down the hall and into the Queen's chambers. His father was there, but the man before them had somehow transformed from a cultured, youthful man into a savage, deranged, monster. Xale and Tek'ar dashed towards the main hall as quietly as they could. The young royal was concerned, scanning the corridors for any signs of his mother. The sight of Queen Rifter being tied up caused Xale to cry out. Prince's eyes were torn from the sight of his bound mother as a sharp and loud roar was heard from the ceiling above. The dark form of his transformed father descended. Tek'ar had overheard the king's plans to get rid of Xale and become the sole ruler of Xionness, and aimed to protect Xale and his mother. Because Zacharias had married into royalty, he had no official power unless both the prince and the queen died. A fight issued, and somehow, Zacarias had seized the Queen's powers. A rift in the dimension, caused by a clash of the two royals' powers, hurled Prince Rifter and Tek'ar through and landed them, roughly, in a field just outside of Atlas Park. It is unknown what has happened to the kingdom... or Xale's mother.
Adapting to Paragon City
Prince Rifter was vitally shaken and didn't speak or eat much at all. Tek'ar was worried and didn't know how to assist in any way. He was quite shaken himself. Tek'ar and Prince took a while to get used to their surroundings but eventually achieved a state of peace with their new community. Unlike Tek'ar, Prince didn't interact much with others. Becoming a commoner was a long and difficult task.
The duo eventually became more and more active and started to speak with other super powered beings. Both were surprised to find the number of heroes around them. Everywhere the two turned there seemed to be one.
Tek'ar and Prince bonded with a woman named Agent Blizz. They joined her organization known as Mission Operative, Tek'ar hoping this would give Xale a sense of purpose. Finding it boring and dreary, the now trio set out to form their own organization, Nocturne Division.
Nocturne Division and Love
Formed in January of 2010, Prince Rifter and his allies set out to create Nocturne Division - a private securities organization catering to the business and political elite. In their spare time, agents of Nocturne Division would take it upon themselves to engage in various espionage activities; investigating finances, taking down rising dictators, etc. Accumulating quite the fortune, Xale began to feel more secure on Earth, finding his success a good sign. However, Agent Blizz found herself stricken with personal grief, leaving Nocturne Division, with only a simple note as her explanation. Not long after, Tek'ar, hoping to find and bring Blizz back to the business, was killed in combat by a group of Rikti soldiers.
Xale was emotionally distraught and fell into a deep depression. Agents began leaving, finding the place too solemn to bear. Dust accumulated, teleporters broke down because of lack of maintenance and the young royal was inches away from hanging op his cape and retiring.
But then all hope was restored, and this bringer of hope was named Adam Riley The two met when Adam applied for the Division, becoming desperate for a paycheck. Xale was determined to make the guy his and set forth on his romantic quest. The determination paid off, and the two eventually engaged. Xale felt again that Earth wasn't such a bad place. However, Adam felt the pressure of marrying a royal was too burdening and left Xale a week before the wedding. Again, Xale was distraught.
This time, however, Xale decided to take his loneliness, and put it into his work. He reopened Nocturne Division, displaying a new corporate headquarters, and wonderfully fresh uniforms, rules, and a livelier roster. The group experienced exponential success, but Xale was livid that his Chiefs, 4 heroes he assigned over various sections responsible for specific ND functions, were incapable of keeping things active and closed the Division's doors once and for all. The fortune he had accumulated was invested and grew, providing him a good nest to retire on, and he still maintains various political and financial connections. The Prince fights on.
Proteges, 2nd Love
Hoping to find a place where he could inspire others and help those being targeted for their abilities, Rifter stumbled upon the Proteges School for Youth. There, he began teaching young heroes the art of espionage and stealth. Though reluctant to ever have feelings for another person after the horrible to end to his first Earth relationship, Xale began courting the headmaster, Aiden a.k.a. Star Sheath. The two had a long dating period, with Xale eventually planning to propose to his second love. They eloped for a long period, returning to the school to find complete disarray. Xale could not bear any more sadness and left the school, deciding to live his life with just himself and his husband. But of course, life could not be too good for too long for the royal. Aiden disappeared and only after extensive search did Xale find his lovers body, costume torn and bloodied, in an alley of Grandville. Aiden had been targeted by a group of radicals, hoping to take control of the Proteges school. After trying extensively to heal and clean Aiden's wounds, he slowly felt the life fade from his husband's body. Aiden's dying wish was that Xale would always be happy, and to ascend to the Xionness throne. "Be a King of Peace." He could no longer keep himself together. He couldn't loose the one he pledged his heart too. The moment he whispered, "I love you," the sky above darkened, and the clouds swirled. Xale's entire being, still carrying Aiden's corpse, was lifted in the air. A tornado began swirling and winds rushed in and out of Aiden's lungs. Lightening struck Xale, causing him to cry out. As the storm calmed and the two returned to the ground, Aiden slowly started to move, slowly opening his eyes to see those of his lover's flooding with tears.
The belief that lightening to Aiden's heart, and wind to lungs from an incarnate are what restored his body, seem to be the easiest explanation to Aiden's revival.
Searching for Allies
Prince Rifter worked briefly for The Oathbreakers, rising through the ranks fairly quickly. When the leader of the Oathbreakers, Cerulean Arbiter, attempted to take a criminal's life, Xale defended the accused, stating it wasn't up to him. This event would bring light to the opposing moral codes of Xale and The Oathbreakers, with the former taking his leave shortly after.
After meeting a young hero, Kai Koa, atop City Hall, Xale's interest in a group known as the Eternals grew sharply. He arranged a meeting with the leaders and now fights alongside the many members as a Capitan.
Testimonials
- Star Sheath a.k.a Aiden Bledel-Rifter, Xale's husband - "Prince Xale Rifter, the love of my life, is more than just that. He's always been a kind and compassionate type of hero, whether it was rescuing stuck cats from trees, or defending Paragon City from large threats, he's always been there. Long before we had formally met, I distinctly remember seeing Xale flying about the city performing acts of heroism. That's what made me certain that he'd be a great addition to my former school. One of the perks turned out to be the attraction, and eventual love, we developed. As my husband, I get to see and enjoy the calm and gentle side of Xale, the side that reassures me that everything is alright. He's a fantastic partern, but he's also one of the strongest heroes I've ever met. He's saved me quite a few times; once from the brink of death... I love you Xale."
- Global Man a.k.a Andrew Pierson, Xale's closest friend and former co-workers at the Proteges School - "Prince Rifter is like a brother to me, even more now that is the Godfather to my child. As a person? Xale has always been rather fun, but always ready to work when it needed to be done. He's a kind person, even though he's been through so much, and lost so much more. The Hero known as Prince Rifter is a welcome sight to many in a fight, though. I wouldn't want another guy fighting next to me, and you'd be hard pressed to find another as poweful. As my friend... Xale isn't my friend. He's my brother, I wouldn't call him anything less. I can't express to anyone how many times this man has pulled my ass from the fire, and in turn my familie's ass'. Xale Rifter is, in closing, a long time friend. He's a mentor and a role model to Paragon City's youth. He has suffered so much and given so much. He cannot be replaced in my eyes and this city owes him a great deal."
- Cerulean Arbiter, Grand Director of The Oathbreakers - "Rifter is... An odd man. A good man - or, rather, a good alien. Aliens are not men... But he had his morals. Despite whatever may have occurred between us, he was a good man, who would stand his ground. Even when facing a choice where his moral let one of the most dangerous men in Paragon live, he stood by his moral high-ground. If given the opportunity, I'd beat him senseless for that senseless choice. A naïve choice that would further endanger innocent people."
