Background
"The Homeland"
Natalia does not come from this timeline. She's from a parallel timeline with multiple points of divergence stretching all the way back to the mid-1800s. Such historical diversions include: Minor differences in the communist manifesto; Thomas Edison invented the Phonograph earlier; A phonograph recording of Abraham Lincoln's voice survives to the current day; Nikola Tesla is married and moves to Russia; Tesla and Edison develop their inventions separately rather than muddling themselves in competition; Tesla's inventions gain widespread military applications; During WW1, Chemical weapons are never deployed instead barbed wire fences are electrified; In the inter-war period, Lenin is succeeded by Trotsky, Stalin retires in shame; Trotsky leads a scientific revolution in Russia, and is able to build and deploy an atomic bomb only 3 years into world war 2 before the Americans even enter the war; The Soviet Space Program lands a man on the moon in 1965, they establish a permanent moon-base in 1969.; Between WW2 and the modern era, nearly three-quarters of the earth (nearly all of it except the Empire of Japan and the Republic of China) have become voluntary members of the greater USSR; There is no Rikti invasion; in 2009 the Kull invade instead.
To save time, she refers to this timeline as "The Homeland". Portal Corp prefers to call it "Soviet Earth"
Childhood
Natalia was born shortly after the United States, facing financial trouble and energy shortages, merged with the already Soviet Canadian Soviet Socialist Republic to become the North American Soviet Socialist Republic. She was very patriotic even at a young age, and decided to join the Red Army's officer academy as soon as she was old enough. She trained as hard as she could in the intervening years, by the time she was 18 she was sparring with veteran soldiers, and winning! She graduated the Academy with a degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Military Leadership, she wanted to be a Tesla Trooper, the most prestigious and difficult job to get in the Army.
Military Career
Natalia was shipped to Moscow's General Staff Academy for additional officer training. There she spent the next year meeting all the training prerequisites for Tesla duty, a feat which normally takes 3 years. She was given a Mark-3 (Portable) Tesla Suit and spent most of the next two years in Siberia Training with the First Tesla Battalion.
The Oil War
In the USSR, clean breeder reactors, as well as fusion plants, provided all the power that they required. As more countries joined the expanding USSR, the Islamic middle-eastern nations (Isreal does not exist in this time-line, the Jews were given large swaths of Poland decimated by WW2 instead) began to find fewer and fewer customers for their crude-oil. They formed a last-ditch alliance known as the Shining Star of Islam. In 2006 they invaded Kazakhstan hoping that if they took Baikonur they could load a space-bound rocket with industrial waste and hold the entire USSR hostage. The Red Army including the First Tesla Battalion was waiting for them, including a young Captain Tesla. The conflict caused Natalia's squad to become separated, they waited behind enemy lines and sprung hitting them from a rear front.
By the end of the conflict, Captain Tesla's personal squad was responsible for 400 dead Arabic soldiers, and over 800 captured. These large numbers of captured soldiers, thanks in no small part to the Tesla Suit's less-than-lethal options, caused the USSR to appear to be the benevolent victims in an unjustified war. This sparked widespread communist revolutions throughout the middle-east resulting at an end to the war. For her part, Natalia was awarded the Distinguished Military Service medal, the medal of Valor, the Order of the Red Star, the Order of Victory, and the Hero of the Soviet Union Badge. After a brief assignment with the GRU, she was promoted to Polkovnik (Colonel) and given full command of the Second Battalion from then on known as "Tesla's Teslas".
The Kull and Hamidon
After the Oil War, relative peace came over the world, excepting the occasional skirmish with Chinese Bandits. This uneasy peace was shattered by the unholy alliance of two of the greatest threats to the Communist way of life ever known. Hamidon in this timeline was not an environmentalist, but a defector to Japan who was a staunch capitalist. He injected himself with the mutagen in 2018 and formed himself into a unicellular being, but retained his consciousness across a vast computer network. He formed the devouring earth to wipe the soviets off the map. About 4 months later, an alien race known as the Kull began to appear over the skies of many major cities. At first, they simply hung in the air, ignoring all attempts of communication, or even weapons fire. But then they seemed to attack, without warning. Huge mounds of flesh, half-human abominations began lashing out lead by psionic reptilian masters who seemed to have the full support of the devouring earth.
Project Redstorm
Project Redstorm was an attempt to cut off Kull support using an untested experimental teleporter and cybernetic enhancements to plant Nuclear devices on key Kull vessels. Natalia and most of the surviving Second Airborne Tesla Battalion were given these enhancements and rushed through Cosmonaut training in Cape Canaveral, which was ignored, along with all of North-America by the Kull for most of the war.
The idea was to launch all earth-to-space vehicles at once, many of which were modified with weapons. The smallest of these, outdated Soyuz capsules would be the only ones manned, by Tesla Troopers. This necessitated a new type of tesla suit, integrated with the soldier's body to remove as much weight as possible. Extensive cybernetic reworking was also required as the suit couldn't carry any EM-sensitive equipment. The team would travel in the Soyuz pods, plant their bombs, and be extracted by prototype transportation devices.
This plan was carried out on the Kull's central telepathic command vessel. The Kull attacked the deep insertion team. just after the devices were armed. Natalia guarded her fellow soldiers as they made their escape, but her suit overloaded just as she was teleported away.
In Paragon
After this teleportation event, Natalia awoke in Atlas Park. After being cleared as a non-threat by Vanguard and given a preliminary FBSA license, She refuses payment or charity for her work, trying to prove her idealized communist point.
Personality
Natalia is a Communist first, a soldier second, and an intellectual third. She's a competent engineer and despite her overwhelming dedication to what she sets her mind to, she sometimes will have her head in the clouds. She's rather jovial and fun-loving and will crack jokes while she kicks ass to keep spirits up. She also tends to like to use big words.
