Proto-Girl is the some-what insane result of an accidental bonding of a human with a rare form of exotic matter. While her madness only got her incarcerated (after she tore a few research facilities apart), she's been developing into quite the Mad-scientist. She's been getting better though.

History

Spoiler warning: Details about a player-created storyline, or information currently unrevealed about a character, follow.

Proto-Girl, Aka "Alice", Was once a student, working as an intern in a a physics lab dedicated to studying exotic forms of matter, while putting the finishing touches on her graduation thesis. One day, a rival company sent someone to steal a recently stabilized sample of exotic matter the lab had begun to store for study.

While "Alice" was making rounds, checking readouts and reporting them to her mentor, she stumbled upon the thief, trying to fill a special container with the material in question. Surprised, the thief dropped the container and the material reacted. While the thief was destroyed outright, as was much of the lab, she was miraculously unharmed, save for the vast physical change her body underwent.

It would seem, something caused the matter to bond with her, rather than destroy her, and this bonding imbued her with a great amount of power. It also drove her insane.

Recklessly tearing through Facilities she believed to be stealing from other companies, the PPD eventually had to have her incarcerated until her mind could be stabilized and she could regain reason. During this time, she was kept heavily sedated and otherwise isolated, granting her time for her mind to heal and adapt to her new "body." Upon her escape, she was thinking much more clearly, even though her ability to reason was still compromised and she had difficulty speaking without having to focus greatly.

She disapeared for a while after that, only spotted occasionally in the Rogue Isles, with a few appearances in Paragon itself, often working in conjunction with other villains, who most likely took advantage of her impaired morals to get her to work with them. However, that soon changed as she reemerged into the spotlight, more sound of mind, and with a few new tricks up her sleeve.

What transpired isn't entirely understood, but on a quest for a better understanding of the origin of power, she came in contact with some interesting artifacts from long ago. The apparent result is that her contact with their energies helped set her mind right, for the most part.

Now she seems to teeter on the edge of good and evil at best, stealing only to survive and fund her work, and preferring to only steal from other villains and companies who are known to steal or misuse technology. Though, she's not un-heard of to be willing to do anything to get paid.

Personality

Surprisingly nice and easy going for the most part, but else-wise unrelenting and merciless when angered. She's a decent ally when convinced to fight with you, but don't be surprised if she turns on you at the moment she senses the impending backstab. Characteristic of someone struggling with the morality of her actions, some of her behavior is erratic, at her worst she can be at one moment compassionate and another cold and heartless the next.

With a little work, some heroes theorize she can be brought to the side of good. Finding a Psychologist willing to be in the same room as her, would probably be the hardest part.
