"In this world o' Give n' Take, there ain't e'nuff willin' ta Give what it Takes"

RYNO is a Cybernetically Enhanced Supa Troll with a thick southern accent who is co-founder and Second in Command of the Black Ops Merc Company known as Ghost Hound. RYNO is an almost direct translation of the player's Shadowrun Character into the City of Heroes universe. RYNO was inspired by various characters from film such as B.A. Baracus from The A-Team, Jayne Cobb from Firefly, and Sarge from Red vs Blue. His attitude is the most notable thing about him, whereas if he can't get something done simply by overpowering it with extreme violence and no emotional attachment, it isn't worth dealing with. Though having an engineering degree, he isn't known for his brightness or ability to think outside the box. RYNO has come to be known on Virtue as the Staple of everything that is Ghost Hound, and is often confused for being it's Leader.

History

RYNO was born Ryan Armando Payne in June of 1974, in Boonestown, Alabama. He was the son of Jebediah Payne and Evita Rodriguez, Jeb's mail-order Mexican bride. Ryan was born to the simple life, on his backwoods farm in the South. He grew up taught the ethics of hard work, southern hospitality and values, and good old fashion discipline at the edge of his daddy's belt. By Age 18, He was a fine half-mexican ready to take on the US Marine Corps, where in Boot, he met Texas Republican Senator's son, Hannibal Fischer, AKA: Wraith Prime. Both boys, though absolute hellions and a pain in the drill instructor's sides, both graduated top of their class in all skills, including Marksmanship.

Gunnery Sgt Ryan Cortez

RYNO went on to become Field Artillery Engineer and Wraith would go on to become Forward Observer. Both met up again during USMC FSOCSpecial Forces Training for SOCOM. There, they also met up with a Military Wizard known as Corporal Cael ReiSuis. After completing training, the 3 parted ways. Wraith moved onto West Point to become an officer, and RYNO moved into military robotics, developing cybernetic limbs, Power Armor and eventually laying the ground work for the developement of Heavy Assault Suits and Mechs.

From there, Ryan quickly rose through the ranks of NCO command in the USMC, up to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He'd become an excellent leader and tactician, as well as a punch in the junk on the battlefield. No matter what it was, he loved combat and being out in the field. At that point, he served 2 years as a Drill Instructor before Operation Desert Storm of 1990. This is when his old buddy, now Major Hannibal Fischer, called him to be part of an elite SOCOM Unit known as Ghost Hound. Here he'd be joined by Fischer, now going by the handle "Wraith," And be joined by 10 other incredibly talented Marines, and no go by the handle "Bulwark Rhino." The team was a smash hit, meshing like one clockwork entity as Commandos. They became incredibly adept at raiding the bases and bunkers of the Iraqi invaders. Then came Operation: Seattle.

Operation Seattle

Taskforce: Ghost-Hound

After Operation Seattle, Ghost Hound was pronounced MIA, and then later dead. Ryan awoke in a dark room with a single lamp overhead, surrounded by suits. He had his eye, arm and jaw replaced, which had been lost during the raid. He was shown his Death Certificate, and would now only be known as Bulwark RYNO. He and the surviving eight were moved to Black Ops, Where they'd be more CIA than Military, able to do more than Special Forces. Their assignment designation was to Taskforce: Ghost Hound. This unit's focus was not only on Colombian Drug Lords and War Criminals, but on Rogue metas as well, raiding their mansions and lairs while they slept.

Bulwark Rhino of TFGH
Being Black Ops humans and not metas, they could do more than the Heroes of Paragon in dealing with threats that Heroes under the "Citizen Vigilante Act" could not. On all Tactics, RYNO was almost always the primary actor, being large he was able to wear more armor and due to his new Deltaware arm, could wield larger calibur guns than the rest of the team. Ryan was your regular John Matrix, and easily a portable weapons platform. Alot of his mechanical genius also allowed him to modify the weapons and vehicals of the rest of the team. This lead to incredible success against Rogue super villains all over the world.

All that changed though on leave for RNR between missions with Wraith when he saw what Lord Recluse had done to those on Mercy Island. In his "Death" his wife and two kids had moved to the Rogue Isles to start anew. To see that nothing was being done about the Outbreak of blighted in Darwin's landing. The toxic zombies were tearing everything apart. All Recluse had done is erect a wall around Mercy to keep them out, leaving RYNO's old family to fend for themselves. It was then and there RYNO walked out on Black Ops and Taskforce Ghost-Hound, much to the dismay of Wraith.

The Downward Spiral Up in Power

RYNO began work in the Rogue isles as a Shadowrunner, a Freelance Solo, a Mercenary like Mattew Burke. He quickly realized there wasn't much he could do against the maces and bullet-resistant armor of Arachnos, so in psychotic determination, he started looking everywhere to make himself more powerful, Freakshow cybernetics, Superadine from skulls and trolls, training with The Warriors. It was in this downward spiral of drugs and replacing God-given parts of his body with metal, capacitors and wires that he caught the eye of the Freakshow. -even going so far as to replace his shadow-government cybernetics and with inferior home-makes.

It Ain't Easy Bein Green...
It was here he picked up his handle on the L33t language, turning his name from Bulwark Rhino to RYN0, an acronym for "Rip You a New One." The cybernetically enhanced troll could easily hold his own in the fightclub-esque events of the Freakshow, gaining respect in many circles. Even though he was welcomed and considered a freak, he continued to abuse the dyne to the point he eventually became a Supa Troll, becomming larger and more resilient than most Freak Tanks. It's this same respect that landed him in the Zig.

RYN0's day finally came when his fellow Freaks decided to bring his skill along for a run on the Talos Island Bank. His military training accounted for very little in the face of the reckless, undisciplined Freak show. Despite being able to take out over 250 PPD and 100 Longbow, completely exhausted, RYNO collapsed and was then sentanced to the "Over the top" Maximum Security branch of Zigurski Correctional Facility. Impervium doors were needed to keep him locked up, as reinforced steel ones would be simply no match.

His luck seemed to turn back up when the Zig once again came under attack. Wraith had found out RYNO had been imprisoned, and so staged a breakout, which allowed the big green freak to escape. Once back in the Rogue Isles, he resumed his business as usual, one day running once again into Wraith in the local Anarchist's Pub known as the Hangman's Roadhouse. There Wraith briefed RYNO on everything that he'd been up to since Black Ops. RYN0 was delighted to hear Wraith was out of Black Ops and had business in the Isles. The two were once again inseperable after that.
