Personality

Cheerful, honest, and helpful... Radiant Sentry is a genuine good person to the core. With never an unkind word, she fights crime bearing her predecessor's name and colors proudly. Though she tries to uphold truth and justice where ever she goes, citizens of Paragon City always see her rushing to the scene of a battle from the direction of Kings Row --the part of Paragon City that she seems to watch over with special attention.

Powers

Radiant Sentry gains her powers from a magic pendant given to her by its former owner, the previous hero called Radiant Sentry. Its origins are unknown at this time, but it seems to be a source of near limitless arcane energy that its wearer can channel into powerful force bolts and stamina-sapping electrical currents. It also enables the user to fly and possibly grants other powers that even the original Radiant Sentry is unaware of.

Energy Blast

The mystic force bolts wielded by Radiant Sentry are a powerful destructive force capable of shattering mundane objects and giving pause to even the mightiest of foes. The relative power level of the bolts is a function of concentration. A quick release of the energy requires the merest of thoughts, but such bolts cause little harm. However, channeling the pendant's upper limits of range and damage require great concentration that requires practice to master.

Electricity Manipulation

The pendant also grants its wearer various other abilities, such as increased physical strength, static discharges at a touch, and the power to drain the very stamina from her foes.

Flight

Though not especially fast, her pendant grants her the power to defy gravity by manipulating a localized electromagnetic aura. Radiant Sentry's top speed seems to be about 20 miles per hour, though she has been able to attain brief boosts of speed. In close quarters, her manueverability is remarkable and allows her to dodge enemy attacks more easily.

Weaknesses and Limitations

Without her magic pendant, Radiant Sentry is powerless. Additionally, she possesses a strong case of Ophidiophobia --the fear of snakes.

Character History

Delaney O'Dare, or Del to her friends, was your average girl. She went to school. A star athlete in gymnastics. Hung out with her friends at the mall. And usually got the lead in the school play. Everyday after school she would walk the same route home through Kings Row, always passing the local pawn shop. The owner, Daniel Graham, was a nice old man who was always friendly to the local kids. Rumor had it he had been a hero who retired but no one ever believed it.

The week before her graduation from high school an event happened to change her life forever. As she was walking home robbers came running out of the pawn shop the owner, Mr. Graham was in the doorway yelling at them to stop. One of the Skull thugs smashed him to the ground.

Horrified, Delaney --who has a photographic memory-- memorized their descriptions then ran to help the old man. She pulled out her ever stylish cellphone and called for emergency help... but everyone was dealing with a giant robot causing devastation in another section of the Row. The elderly man told her where the first aid kit was and she ran into the shop to get it while he managed to get up. She watched him limp over to one of of the cases and unlock it. He had an odd look on his face, and Delaney was worried he had hit his head in the fall.

As she brought the first aid kit to him he brought out an intricate silver and blue pendant. He handed it to her. "Its yours if you want. I've become a too old to use it, but I think you two would be a good match."

"What do you mean, sir?"

He pulled out a scrapbook from under the counter. "This was from my younger days. Do you ever remember hearing of a hero called The Radiant Sentry?"

Delaney knew the name. Her dad had told her about some of the heroes when he was a kid. Radiant Sentry had helped rescue his family when their apartment had been set on fire by a bunch of thungs. He hunted them down and brought them to justice.

"You mean..."

"Yes, and I would like you to carry on the legacy."

Continuing The Legacy

Radiant Sentry, circa 1953
During the 1940s, more and more costumed do-gooders were appearing in Paragon City, following the lead of heroes like Statesman. One such hero was The Radiant Sentry. Possessing power that set him apart from the average masked mystery men of the day, he battled the forces of injustice alone so as not to put teammates unnecessarily in harm's way. There were occasional team-ups and it is rumored that he was even invited to join Statesman's Freedom Phalanx, but --for his own reasons-- The Radiant Sentry chose to stand alone as a shining beacon of hope. While some heroes chose to join the conflict in Europe, he stayed in Paragon City to ensure the home front was not left undefended.
Radiant Sentry, circa 1977
Many criticized his inaction during World War 2, but those whose lives he saved were grateful their protector hadn't left them. Throughout the next few decades, he was a source of inspiration and security for the citizens of Paragon City, but there was no denying he was as mortal as anyone else when his photograph appeared on the front page of the Paragon Times and it was clear his age was showing through. It wasn't long afterward that his appearances in public started to dwindle --though with a fresh crop of heroes to take up the fight against evil, his presence wasn't sorely missed. During the first rikti invasion of 2002, Statesman called upon all heroes to join the fight against the alien invaders. The Radiant Sentry was not one to shirk his duty and once again donned his tights. Some say he was mortally wounded during those epic battles. Others say he fell in battle without so much as being struck --his age having caught up to him. Either way, he was never seen again afterwards.
