History

Marcus Dragen had been the darling of Denmark, even when he traded his Vaterland for the chaotic streets of Paragon: born with a mutant gene that allowed him to control his biomass and increase its density until it had the resistance and texture of granite, he was soon known as StoneGiant, one of the greatest heroes Denmark had ever produced. Unfortunately, a time came when he had to fight his final battle -- against an enraged Northern Wind. He perished so that his beloved country could survive, and like the great fallen warrior he was, his soul was taken to Valhallah, so that he could join the army of Odin to fight in the Ragnarok, the battle of endtimes. His heart was conquered by the Valkyrie that had been dispatched to rescue his soul, Sigrdrífa, and after not long, they became lovers. A year or so later, his daughter was born, and aptly named Sygny, "A New Victory".Sygny was trained from birth to be a WarMaiden as her mother, but her relationship with her sister Valkyries was not an easy one: being considered a half breed, and for that reason being smaller and more delicate than the others caused a never-ending of mocking and teasing from the older girls. Raised to be honorable and respectful of her elders by her father, Sygny seldomly reacted to the provocation, but soon she found herself enticed by the tales Marcus told of Midgaard, where he had been born, and where she believed she wouldn't be mocked for being shorter or smaller than other people. As time went by, life in Asgard began to grate on her nerves: like all other Valkyries, she waited the tables for the great feasts that gathered the pantheon every night in Valhallah -- unfortunately, the manners of gods and heroes had never been the best, and the young Sygny found herself being the center of a lot of free-for-alls after one of them had become too frisky. Of course, the fighting part was actually appreciated by the participants, who loved it as much as drinking, but she was quickly becoming weary of it.

At first, she thought that being accepted as a full-fledged Valkyrie by passing the trial of combat would make things easier, and earning he right to be no longer a child but an adult. For her troubles, she had to fight a dragon for it: Anwyeth, a fellow Valkyrie and a halfbreed as well, was her chosen opponent - except Anwyeth's father had been a dragon, making her a formidable sorceress, capable of controlling fire in every of its forms. Fire, however, was hardly a threat for the stone armor Sygny could summon to protect her and the she-dragon learned that the hard way, when the youngest Valkyrie left her broken and bleeding at the end of their duel. Unfortunately, now that she had the right to call herself a Valkyrie, Sygny still had to endure teasing and mocking from her sisters -- Littlest One, and The Smallest Valkyrie was the nicknames she had to endure much to her chagrin. If she couldn't get respect in her own home, she decided she would go find it in Midgaard -- her father had been a hero, she would be a hero as well. And so, like any stubborn teenager with an idea on their mind, she started a veritable assault of pleading, begging, cajoling and sulking until her parents gave in and allowed her to have her way. Her father, however, feared that she would forget that humans, unlike the spirits of the warriors, would not rise after being run through with a sword. He educated her in the old-school hero code, to make sure that she wouldn't make mistakes when handling human life -- because she wasn't entirely human herself.

When she finally managed to convince her family she was ready, she rode a rainbow to Midgaard, landing in Denmark: her father's friends and living relatives took her in long enough to apply for citizenship and get a plane ticket to Paragon City, where she accidentally stumbled on information about the Gods -- whom she was determined to join.

Finally part of the Young Gods, Sygny now struggles to understand human nature and behavior -- humans fascinate her, even if at times seem illogical, and her great goal in life is to actually understand them enough to be able of being one, as she is immensely proud of her human heritage. Her secret desire is to actually join a highschool like other normal human teenagers, but she feels that since she doesn't have enough knowledge about "human" things, she needs to catch up first. For that reason, she got a part-time job at a local library and spends her free time reading and studying. Her lack of knowledge of human habits has also recently got her in trouble: she unwittingly revealed during an interview for a magazine that her parents were not in this plane, and that she lived on her own. Sniffing a possible scoop, the editor of the magazine tipped Child Care Services, and recently, the Gods started being harassed because they have a minor living without supervision on her hands. Ragnarockette feels she's not a proper human yet, and dreads being put with a foster family, which would endanger her secret identity (which she is adamant about keeping, because that is the Right Thing) so keeps running away from Child Care representatives coming to get her.

Other distinguishing features

In her Valkyrie form, her skin is hard, almost marble-like even though it feels supple and warm to the touch; and also large white wings (which is something unusual among Valkyries, who usually have them in shades of brown), and elegantly pointed ears. In her hybrid form, the wings vanish, but her pointy ears remain.

Strength level

Ragnarockette's strength level fluctuates with her form: in normal human form, she has the strength of an extremely fit young woman (steming from the fact she exercises every day), but when she summons her stone powers, her strength multiplies to incredible levels, to compensate for the increase of her body density. Her full strength in granite form is still to be fully measured -- the theory is that the closer she is to the ground, the stronger she is -- no limit has been put in yet to how much she can bench press while in that form. Her Valkyrie form is immensely stronger than a normal human, but she seems capable of benchpressing around 1 ton with effort. Her hybrid form is stronger, capable of handling around 10 tons.

Known superhuman powers

Ragnarockette's better known powers is her control over earth, both using it to protect herself or to attack her enemies. However, she is capable of dealing devastating damage with her control of arcane energies, which she summons through rune magic.

In her human form, her magic is weaker, and in Valkyrie form she barely manages to summon her earth control powers -- for that reason, she usually settles in her hybrid form, which, while not being as strong as her human form, it is capable of almost fully tapping her magic -- and far stronger than her Valkyrie form.

However, her magic has far more subtle capabilities: she can shift herself at will into Asgard and most realms hanging from the branches of Yggragil, which includes Helfheim (the hellish realms), the Dead Lands, the Sunless Realms (also known as Faerie) and even the Shadow Kingdom which is the place between worlds. She can do this at a blink of an eye, and since time does not run in the same way while she is in the other realms, it seems to the passer-by that she simply blinked out of existence to reappear somewhere else. She can pull someone else to her through the Shadow realms, but since it's a slightly unnerving experience, she will not do it often and certainly not without consent.

She is capable of flight in either form: her wings allow her to fly in her Valkyrie form, and it seems she has an inherent ability (not inherited from her father) to fly in her human form.

Other abilities

Sygny is a very athletic young woman, having endured a Valkyrie's hard training for combat. She's proficient in the use of a wide array of melee weapons, favoring the longsword. She also has an amazing capability of absorbing information: when she arrived at Paragon a few months ago, her knowledge of English was around the level of a 6-year old, but now, she is fully proficient and capable of using idiomatic expressions and play on words. Tests have confirmed that she her ability to acquire new information is superior to that of a newborn child -- there is no certainty if she has an eidetic memory, or if, as her human body technically is newborn, reacts to the surrounding environment the same way a newborn child does.

Limitations

She has several weakenesses -- depending on the form she's on. Her human form, the one that holds all of her "stone" powers is basically that, human. She could be killed with enough damage if she does not manage to summon her powers fast enough. Her Valkyrie form is not human, hence normal human death is impossible (she doesn't breathe, bleed, eat, or display any of those fun mammalian functions) but she is susceptible to powerful magicians who can bind her or control her if they manage to get their hands on her True Name.

In Midgaard, her "default" form is her human form, which means, if her energies are exhausted or if she's knocked unconscious or falls asleep, she will automatically revert to her human self.

Another limitation, although not crippling, might causes awkward or even humorous situations: since her knowledge of human society is still reduced, she will believe almost anything she's told about human habits (within a certain logical limit), which she will immediately try to emulate -- that includes what she reads on tabloids and sees on TV: that is the reason why she believes that Jerry Springer Show and TV Wrestling are for real.

Paraphernalia

A superhero needs a costume, so Ragnarockette had one designed for her as soon as she arrived in Norway, after inspiring herself in some comic books (she figured it was the most logical source). It's in a fairly resistant cloth, being capable of handling cutting and fire damage, and since her stone armor usually protects her clothes, she isn't known for having high clothing bills. When she takes her Valkyrie form, any clothes she might be wearing will turn into her golden combat armor.

Weapons/Arsenal

"Singing Death" is Sygny's sword, her trusted blade. However, she is under an oath to her father never to use it while in Midgaard - StoneGiant knows how deadly his daughter can be with a blade, and only allowed her to move to Paragon after he extracted that oath from her. She misses the feel of using a blade in combat, but she respects her father's wishes and is content to use it only for practice when she's alone. Singing Death is a simple grey-bluish blade, with runes engraved into its length -- when it's drawn of its sheath, or swung, it lets out a pure, clear note -- where it earned its name.
