History
From the day he was born, there was never any doubt that Thomas Howard had superhuman powers. His mother gave birth to a healthy, happy boy, until the traditional first cry. That cry destroyed the wall of the delivery room.
Thomas was quickly whisked away to the Monica Cole School. It's not simply a school, but it's a government run facility for children with uncontrolled or dangerous powers. There, young Thomas was placed in a special room that had baffles to absorb the sheer force of his voice. As Thomas got older, his control of his powers didn't improve much at first, but the raw destructive force of his powers did. The only person who was able to enter his room was a nurse, Andrea Essling, who had previously been a superhero in town (and was nearly invunerable).
By the time Thomas reached his mid teen years, he had begun to gain some control over his abilities, and Ms. Essling's son Michael was allowed to enter Thomas' room, as he had inherited his mother's powers. The two boys became the best of friends.
Slowly, Thomas began to leave his shell, though he remained very soft spoken, as if he were afraid to say much for fear of causing mass devestation.
All that changed one day when he was sixteen years old. Somehow, the Council had found out the location of the Institute and decided that the patients would make idea recruits for their schemes. The heroes of Paragon City were able to drive away the Council soldiers, but not before Michael Essling had his spine ripped apart by a Council Officer who changed into a Warwolf.
That day, Thomas decided to use his powers to find the beast who had crippled his friend. He made a simple costume for himself and started sneaking out of the Institute at night (not knowing that they were letting him go intentionally), and became Red Owl.
Remembering the role the Gods had played in saving his school, he got in contact with them and joined the Young Gods.
