Scarlet Streak
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
This is the first character of mine to reach 50, and boy it was a fun ride. I still play him from time to time, for influence earning or inventing or other things. But RP-wise, Scarlet Streak is dead. Changed into Prince of Light

Character History
He was Scarlet Streak, once one of the most powerful superheroes ever to possess the ability to move at incredible velocities, commonly referred to as Super Speed.
One of the few heroes to base himself in the California basin city of Los Angeles, Scarlet Streak was often dubbed as "Superhero to the Stars", for his public appearances and heroic feats performed in the company of various celebrities from all facets of the entertainment world.
His true name and other personal facts still remain undisclosed to 99.9% of the world, but a very small group of people know who he is. Recently it has been discovered that the legend of The Scarlet Streak goes back nearly a century, perhaps longer. And it is possible that he is merely a modern day incarnation of the legend, or, as some suspect, he is "The" Scarlet Streak.
As the need for a hero in Los Angeles dwindled in the new millenium, Scarlet Streak's popularity fell quietly, but dramatically. Soon it was only the most reclusive of people who remembered all the deeds he did, and respected him for them. And it went downhill from there. Tabloids started taking shots at this crimson cruiser, calling him a "Fake" and "Wannabe hero", this verbal barrage continued until Scarlet Streak bowed out of sight and didn't reappear for nearly a year.
Then the Rikti came...
While Paragon City suffered more damage and loss of life than anywhere else on the planet, several Rikti ships slipped away and terrorized other locales, including Los Angeles. It was quite a normal day for the millions of people who lived there, normal, until the sky darkened, and an ominous silver disk appeared in the skies. Drones and supersoldiers poured out of the belly of the behemoth ship and began to lay waste to Los Angeles itself.
And then, a once familiar red ribbon appeared along the horizon. Scarlet Streak had returned from his self-imposed exile, and he was fired up.
Careening around freeways, highways, skyways, city streets, intersections and even alley ways, Scarlet Streak pounded Rikti drone and soldier alike, too fast for even their super sensitive tracking equipment. After almost five hundred losses, the Rikti decided to bug out and head for the relatively easy pickings that other ships were having in Paragon City. But Scarlet had other plans.
He stopped in his tracks, turned toward the Pacific, and ran... He ran at speeds he only reached on a few rare occasions, but he didn't stop there... His legs continued pumping faster and faster, taking him to speeds reaching one hundred, two hundred, three hundred miles per hour... And still he continued his relentless and alacritous build-up of speed.
He kept on running and then... The boom heard around the world... He had broken the sound barrier, on foot. Moving so fast that he caused several small tidal waves to form along the Atlantic ocean, he appeared only as a scarlet line rocketing along the blue water, and sending a spout of water spiraling above and behind him nearly three hundred feet away.
No one knows exactly what happened next... But in a single moment, nearly every shred of the Rikti presence was vaporized in a hundred mile radius around Los Angeles, including the mothership which hadn't been fast enough in it's travel.
Some people say it was because the Rikti in Paragon were pushed back, and the psychic whiplash destroyed them. Others believe that several unknown Superheroes were their savior... But a fair few, knew the truth...
That fair few believed he and gone so fast that he hit every Rikti within that hundred mile radius in a single second. Perhaps even, the speed of light itself.
Scarlet Streak tore his way into the annals of history by reaching tremendous speeds that very few speedsters ever could... Off the charts...
In his own small way, Scarlet Streak saved the world that day... Because it is possible, if that one extra ship had made it to Paragon City, they could have intercepted Hero 1 and his valiant team before they traveled to the Rikti homeworld.
Within hours, the name of the crimson crusader was being shouted all around Los Angeles, chanted by millions. No longer was he simply "Superhero to the Stars" he was a true hero, and the people promised themselves they would never forget his name...
But... Where was he?
The entire state of California began searching for it's beloved hero, and it was nearly two years before they found him... A search party stumbled across his beaten, bloodied and battered form in the same field where the Rikti ship was destroyed. Against all odds, he was alive... Barely.
When he was returned to Los Angeles and placed in the hospital, doctors discovered that his subconscious mind had slowed his heart rate to an incredible one beat per day... Somehow, even a rate that phenomenonally low had kept him alive all this time.
The city was prepared to throw the biggest parade and celebration the state had ever seen, in honor of their hero Scarlet Streak. But there was just one problem, which they learned of when he awoke after a week in the hospital...
He didn't know who Scarlet Streak was... He didn't know who HE was...
Doctors were perplexed, as his mind was in perfect health, posessing everything else he had obtained throughout his life, except the knowledge of his past, present, and seemingly bleak future. He could talk, walk, write, eat, drive, joke, investigate, et cetera et cetera. But he just couldn't remember who he was, not even his name... Secret Identity or otherwise.
And whats more, all this attention started scaring him just a little, so the Governor came to Los Angeles and asked if he would like to go somewhere where there were lots of people who might be able to help him. He agreed, and he was sent to the newly rebuilt Paragon City. He took his given name of Scarlet Streak as his only name, until he could remember his real one. If he was going to remember at all.
As far as attire, the city fashioned a new suit for him, and asked him to bear it proudly, in the name of the true Scarlet Streak, the one buried within him. They promised they would fix his original suit and keep it against the day when he would come back for it.
So he said farewell to the people who said they had been friends of his, to the Mayor, to the Governor, and finally, to the cheering crowds.
Now, in Paragon City, he is struggling to make a name for himself again, seeking new compatriots and companions. And to his great joy, he found some. The now Sentinels United welcomed him into their ranks, along with his closest friend in the city, Tigra Swipe.
He is happy, happy to be a hero once more, happy to have friends who care for him, happy to once again have what he cherishes above all, a family, in the form of the Sentinels... And very happy to be a part of this Paragon City, this City of Heroes.
