Sentry-Man was the very first character I created for the intention of roleplaying on the Virtue server. I never would have imagined how much he'd grow on me. Sentry is an unorthodox type of homage character. He was inspired by several of my favorite comic book heroes. If you were to fire up a blender, toss in a nice, fine chunk of Superman, add a portion of Silver Surfer, and added a touch of Green Lantern and Captain Atom, this is what you'd wind up with.

History
Background
Ky’EL Kue’Ran was born on the distant planet Thonthos, a futuristic utopia that had eradicated all forms of injustice and had remained peaceful for centuries. From the enthralling city of Tr’Nos Poli to the vine fields of Zene'Hal, a sense of pride and advancement seemed to linger. A civilization of scholars, it's youth were constantly involved in study. They were all taught the value of truth, peace, love, and cooperation. They were also taught of who to be thankful for the harmony they enjoyed every day. The Sentries. There was not a sentient being on Thonthos that did not know their story. The Sentries were an elite group of selfless men and women who set out several thousand years before to teach the lessons of peace and prosperity to all the civilizations on the planet. Because of their selflessness, senseless wars and disputes between social classes, countries, natives, or imigrants all became extinct. They found success in uniting all who lived under Thonthos's golden skies. When their mission was complete, The Sentries dissappeared. Most believed they settled into quiet lives, started families, and spent the rest of their days enjoying the paradise they created.
Though ashamed to admit it, Ky'EL had often dreamed of a place where a person could make a difference. In the world he lived in, there was no room for change that had any impact. Though his own people enjoyed privileged lives, there was no doubt in his mind that there were people on worlds elsewhere that were suffering. People who deserved to share the paradise that he and his peers took advantage of everyday. And it was his responsibility to bring it to them.
Drawing inspiration from the story of The Sentries, Ky'EL first introduced the idea to the Great Court of Tr'Nos Poli. He proposed the idea of continuing the legacy of The Sentries, by reassembling a band of able-bodied men and women who would take to the stars and heal the people of the universe. He argued that, because of the great position fate handed them, that it was the duty of all Thonthosians to spread peace to worlds who so desperately needed it. However, the Court concluded that such a movement would bring more harm than good. They believed that by exposing themselves to the forces of chaos that they had worked so long to eradicate, it would return to reek havoc on to their own world. They feared the loss of the great order and prosperity that had stood strong for millenia. Rejecting the proposal, the Court ordered Ky'EL to return home, and dismiss his wild ideas of "anarchy."
Disappointed, but not discouraged, Ky'EL decided that he alone would leave and begin the mission to save the universe. For months he trained alone, honing the native abilities of his world through sheer willpower. His body and mind strong, he departed from his home world on a journey to find a new planet harboring sentient life that he could help. After weeks of traveling the Milky Way, he discovered Earth, a planet rich in emotions, ripe with opportunity, and in conflict with the agents of evil. The place he noticed needed the most assistance of all, was a small city in Rhode Island, called Paragon City. A city that had been ravaged time and time again by destruction and corruption, and yet still managed to shine a light of hope through the darkness. This city would become his new home. Donning a uniform synonymous with his purpose, Ky'EL took on a new name for himself, both to honor The Sentries and to represent his new role. He became, Sentry-Man, Guardian of the Innocent, and Envoy of Peace.
The Saga Thus Far
The Golden Age Heroes
In the weeks that followed his arrival to Paragon City, Ky'EL established a new identity for himself. When he was not patrolling the streets, he walked among the people as Kyle Carter, to better understand their culture. It was during a walk on a cold December morning that he discovered a flier for a Golden Age Festival. Curious, he attended this festival, where he was introduced to the Golden Age Heroes, a group of like-minded individuals who stood as the symbol for truth and justice throughout Paragon. Kyle was so impressed with the group, that in February of 2008 he applied for membership. He was accepted, and ever since the Gods have been like a second family to him.
Powers and Abilities
Powers
- Energy Super Strength: Utilizing the energy stored within his body, Sentry-Man can access unbelievable strength through concentration, symbolized by the dim red energy aura that surrounds his hands when doing so. The limit to his strength is in direct proportion to the amount of energy used, and because he has yet to test his upper limits, his full power remains unknown. However, witnesses can report seeing him lift large objects such as buses or debris with relative ease.
- Willpower: Through will, Sentry-Man can increase the durability of his body using energy around and within him, creating a unique spin on invulnerability, granting him resistance to physical trauma.
- Flight: By projecting energy through his hands and feet, Sentry-Man can defy gravity and fly. He can reach speeds nearing Mach 1, and greatly exceed that while within the vacuum of space.
- Energy Projection: Recently, Sentry-Man discovered that he can direct a current of energy to release from his eyes and hands creating a razor sharp laser vision capable of cutting through steel, or a torrent of raw energy.
Abilities
Because of the strength of Kyle's will, he is not vulnerable to minor psychic attacks. Also, he is an excellent spacecraft pilot and mechanic. Often he can be found making adjustments to his ship, which stays in orbit just outside of Earth's atmosphere. Although he can survive in space and maneuver with relative ease, he prefers space travel with his ship.
Weakness and Limitations
Sentry-Man is very susceptible to mid-level and higher forms of psychic attack, as well as assaults with magic origin. Furthermore, he is extremely weak towards negative energy assaults. If allowed to absorb into his system, the effects that they could have on his body and mind are catastrophic at best. ((Foreshadowing, maybe? Hmmm...))
Personality
Although Sentry-Man holds his peers and newfound family in high regard, he is somewhat of a social misfit. He has found time and time again, that during the rare moments he is not patrolling Paragon, his is isolated by choice on his ship. During the Clone Scare caused by the Game Keeper some months ago, he realized that very little interaction existed between himself and others on a personal basis. He hopes to fix that.
Affiliations
Sentry-Man is a proud member of The Golden Age Heroes.
Trivia
- Sentry-Man's costume is a result of the first patriotic color scheme that the player has ever attempted.
- Though the player has tried, he cannot come up with a reason why Sentry-Man wears the Vanguard symbol on his chest. It just looks good.
- The alter ego of Kyle Carter has yet to fully be explored, but the player hopes to change that in the future.
