This is my namesake character, the first I ever created. I made him on Justice, but he will soon be transferred over to Virtue, along with my first villain, Armorbound. He was a member of the Onami Strike Force (see Top Cow CoH comic book Issue 6 for a fanfic by its leader), and while the group, and the death of its leader's character in one of his later works, play a role in Spectreblade's development, the Onami Strike Force (and its leader) still exist in-game, but they are on the Justice server and therefore beyond the scope of this wiki.

Basic Info

John O'Donnel is the current owner of a unique suit of armor. Up until he acquired it as part of a medieval weapon collection passed down from his father, he led a relatively normal life. He soon discovered that the armor was posessed by the soul of a knight, bound to his armor against his will by a jealous rival. The spirit of the armor can augment its wearer's physical ability, as well as manifest itself in the form of protective auras, among other ways. John now works in his civilian life at the Paragon City Museum as Curator of an exhibit featuring his collection, but in his other job, he uses the posessed armor to battle evil as the hero Spectreblade.

Personality

Spectreblade's decision to use the armor's power to become one of Paragon City's many heroes stems mainly from a sense of duty. He considers heroism to be his true calling, his purpose in life, and he enjoys his life as a hero.

When the first Rikti invasion took place, Spectreblade was still John O'Donnel, and had not yet received the armor that gives him his heroic abilities. He could only watch helplessly and flee for his own life with the rest of the civilian population as the chaos and destruction of the invasion raged and people died all around him. It pained him greatly that he could do nothing to contribute to the heroes' efforts to fight the Rikti. So when the opportunity to join the ranks of Paragon's heroes presented itself, he jumped at it. He is eternally grateful that he now has the power to help the city he couldn't help during the war.

Powers

Primary Set: Broadsword

The broadsword was the weapon of choice for the spirit trapped within the armor, and as a result, it is Spectreblade's weapon of choice as well. At first, Spectreblade's armor did most of the work of wielding it effectively, since he himself had no experience with sword fighting. But as his career as a hero went on, he became a skilled swordsman in his own right. With his own skill and that of the armor combined, he is a formidable force.

Secondary Set: Dark Armor

The spirit of the armor, in addition to supplementing its wearer's physical agility with its own, is capable of more supernatural abilities to protect Spectreblade. The soul of the armor can manifest itself in several ways, such as damage absorption, draining the life force from foes, stealth ability, and even causing horrific halucinations in Spectreblade's enemies.

Pool Sets

Leaping

The armor's agility-boosting powers give Spectreblade leaping abilities beyond those of ordinary humans, enabling him to easily leap hundreds of yards through the air to dodge attacks and for quick travel across the city he protects.

Fitness

While it gives him a great deal of power, fighting with a broadsword in a heavy suit of armor can be taxing, and Spectreblade works out to keep his stamina up. While he is still within human limits without his armor, he is still in good physical shape.

Epic Pool: Darkness Mastery

As he became more powerful, Spectreblade gained the ability to use the armor's dark power for more offensive purposes as well as for defense, including the ability to fire dark blasts at his foes, paralyze them with a gaze, and summoning dark tentacles from below their feet to immobilize them.

Affiliations

Onami Strike Force: Spectreblade spent most of his early days working alone, but would eventually join this group after helping them defeat the Praetorian villain Dominatrix. The friends he made as a member of the group would prove instrumental in his first victory over the Armorbound, the rival who had bound the knight's soul to the armor centuries ago. With the later death of the group's leader at the hands of the Envoy of Shadow, the Onami Strike Force descended into disarray, being all but disbanded, leaving Spectreblade searching for a new group to join.

Paragonian Knights: The next group Spectreblade would join, and the one he is currently a member of, is the Paragonian Knights, led by Grae Knight. This group was much larger than the one he left, with several different subdivisions. By virtue of having long since achieved Security Level 50, he was able to join the group's other Level 50 heroes in the Elite division. While the sheer size of the group took some getting used to, he eventually got his bearings, and now feels right at home with the group.
