History
Growing Up
Vanessa was born on the 7th of September in 1985 to loving parents Julia and Lenard Swain. She was born at her mothers insistance at the family home in Louisiana. The old plantation house and grounds had been brought by her father some years earlier and he had spent many millions of dollars making it a home for his family, a home that in later years Vanessa would come to dispise. The first few years of her life till age five were spent at the plantation house, during which time much to her mother annoyance she picked up the local Creole dialect as well as some french, on her fifth birthday Vanessa was given a 'special present' a governess and private tutor. After her fifth bithday the family began to travel more, mother, governess and Vanessa all in tow on her fathers business trips around the globe. London, Paris, Tokyo, Bejin, Hong Kong, California, Florida were all usual destinations, her fathers media company having branch offices in these cities and many others. All the time either at family ownned residences or in plush hotel suites Vanessa's private tution continued. Private tution would also include the culture and language of those cities they visited given Vanessa a vast amount of knowledge which she absored like a dry sponge absorbs water. As such Vanessa is known to speak English, Creole, French, German, Cantonese, and Chinese. Vaness tutoring was very formal and was to finishing school grade between the ages of fifteen to seventeen, even though this was being considered archaic at this time.
Mutation
As with many mutants Vanessa's mutation became active with the onset of puberty. She was 14 years old and can till remember the incident as if it happened yesterday. As was usual, the family was on one of her fathers buniness trips this time to Tokyo to oversee the opening of the latest branch office there. They had decided to layover in the California residence for a few days before making the final leg of the trip to Tokyo. Her mother and father were both out and foolishly Vanessa had tried running down the huge formal staircase that swept around the edge of the entrance hall. Predictably she had lost her footing and fell down the staircase. She remembers raising her arms to shield her face and then sitting up at the base of the stairs, foruntaly uninjured. To her horror both of he arms were ablaze, frantically she tried rolling on the floor as she screamed and wondered how she had caught fire, it was only after a few minutes she realised that although her arms were still on fire she was no in any pain or suffering any visable damage. Finally the flames died of their own accord, leaving Vanessa in a state of shock. A couple more times similar things happened, when she was in danger or might have been injured flames would burst from her body. Vanessa did her best to keep this from everyone fearing what people would think.
At the age of seventeen Vanessa much to her embarressment, she set fire to the pool house of the families Florida residence, when she failed to notice her powers had activated. It was obvious after the fact that the fire was due to Vanessa and her father thinking it was a cry for help immediatly sent her to see a Psychiatrist, after six months of twice weekly sessions the Psychiatrist said Vanessa was quite stable and no longer needed to attend, and she doubted she ever did need to attend.

The creation of a Hero
Drawing in her vast knowledge of the world Vanessa finally picked the hero name Swan Vesta after the match manufacture, located in the UK. She got herself an outfit with a face mask, for although her father had thrown her out of the house, she didnt want to cause further problems for her family and reported to the City Hall in Altas Park and signed up.
Next Gen
Joining Up
Vanessa joined another of these so called 'Super Groups' when she first came to Paragon city, i was a little known group called Heavens High. Unfortuantly it didnt last long and ultimatly closed it doors and vanessa moved on. Working for herself out of her appartment in Founders Falls was how she spent the next three years till she bumped into a man using the moniker Zero Chance, they managed to foil a couple of plots by the group know as the Warriors in and arround Talos Island. No being the shy type Vanessa had talked to Chance as they worked asking her own questions and making observations, as well as answering his questions about her.
Ultimatley Zero Chance took her back to NeXt Gens Tower and convinced her to give NeXt Gen a try, Vanessa has never looked back and still thinks of Zero Chance as a friend

Amy Smith
A very close friend, one time lover and partner, Amy Smith was the name chosen by pbHead (lead head) when Vanessa had said it would be good for her to have a proper name and not just a handel
Masquerading-Facade
A good friend to Vanessa, Mia Burnside has been through a lot in the time Vanessa has known her. Following Mia's mother's murder, Mia has returned to Paragon City and swan took her in till shes recovered. Mai has now gone back to her home town to attend to locate her parents murderer
Reflection
For some reason Tatjana and Vanessa have become fast friends and are often seen in each others company, dispite being almost complete opposites where their powers are concerned. Both girls have a need for perfection, and its belived this has pulled them together.
Jessii James
One of the many bar staff who works in Pocket D, Vanessa and Jessii have made a fast friendship over the bar counter, and Jessii's habit of getting into trouble has kept Vanessa worrying.
Zero Chance
The grumpy and mysterious Director of Security for Next-Gen. Most would assume this friendship would not exist and Vanessa promotion to Councelor often brings her into contact with Chance over student who have been behaving badly around the Tower. However Chance was the first member of Next-Gen she met and it untimatly responsibe for her having the home and friends she does today.
Lisa Deing
Next-Gen's fuzzy faced Catgirl of Awesome. Vanessa and Lisa have become friends over the months since Vanessa came to the tower.
Jesse Wynters
Vanessa met Jesse in Pocket D at one of the Cape DJ's shows, and if memory serves her correctly it was DJ Pheonyx. The two girls althought form vastly different backgrounds have discovered they have a lot in common from a enjoyment for life to a love of reading books. Over the months they have become good friends and can usually be send at the Capes DJ's shows Like Pheonyx, or One Hit Wonder or Amethyst, usually they are messing about hip bumping each other or trying to talk One Hit Wonder into doing another Bikini show. On the 8th July 2011 Vanessa and Jesse tried going out together on a date, which proved highly successful, they are now in a stable realationship and spend time together split between Jesse's appartment in the Isles and Vanessa's place in Paragon City.

DJ Amethyst
DJ Amethyst or Ame as she usually gets called is one of Vanessa's closest friends, Vanessa has shared some of her deepest secrets with Ame and they can often be seen dancing together, sometimes in bikini's. Vanessa also seems to have been responsible for the so called 'cult of Amethyst' after nine people turned up all dressed as Ame just because Vanessa had. Some people have wondered if theres something going on between them but Vanessa refuses to comment on this.
The Sultry Siren
Sultry is what Vanessa calls her and vanessa loves the music this DJ plays. Sometimes they meet up to talk but never arrange to its just one of the little things life throws at you. But Vanessa is always pleased to see her friend and cares for her.
