History

Early Life and First Power Manifestation

Monica was born in Harrisburg, PA at 4 AM Eastern Time, March 28, 1980. Exactly one year, to the minute, of the Three-Mile Island nuclear accident at the Three-Mile Island nuclear power facility. Her parents has been exposed to the resulting radiation in the area. It was an insignificant does by most normal standards, but it was enough to change their genes in such a way that cause a mutation in their daughter. Shortly after Monica was born, her father Matthew Lewis was offered a job as a Civil Engineer in Philadelphia. They moved, and soon forgot about what seemed to them an insignificant event in their lives. When Monica was 15, an accident occurred that made them think more on the event that happened a year before her birth. She was sitting in the family room alone, drinking hot tea and reading one morning when the family cat jumped up in her lap, bumping the tea cup and spilling the still-too-hot-to-drink tea on her leg. As she cried out in pain she let loose a small blast of radiation that fried the television and unfortunately irradiated the cat. Her parents rushed into the room to the smell of fried circuitry, fried cat hair, and Monica's hands still glowing from the release of energy. The cat died of acute feline leukemia two days later. Not knowing what to do about their daughter's odd problem, they chose the mistake of ignoring it. Monica withdrew into herself a bit and threw herself into her schoolwork.

College, New York, and the Second Incident

Having become a very diligent Student, Monica graduated high school with a 3.8 GPA and a high enough score on her SATs to guarantee a scholarship to any college of her choice save for the Ivy League schools. She chose to attend Syracuse University and graduated with a fine arts degree in Voice performance, trained as a second soprano. After graduation she moved to New York City to find work in plays and musicals on Broadway, landing a few minor roles, mainly as part of the chorus of several shows. Life up until this point had been relatively normal. She worked as a barrista in a coffee shop between musical jobs and had friends in both aspects of her life. One night some of her friends had an idea to take Monica out to an industrial club in Manhattan. They dressed her up in some revealing black vinyl clothes and headed out for a night of fun. While she was there, Monica agreed to dance with a man who had been speaking to her for a few minutes after they arrived. Out on the packed dance floor the man began to grope her in the middle of the song. She panicked and cried out but due to the loud music and crowded conditions she was unable to get help. Suddenly her fire abilities manifested and her assailants head was bathed in flames and smoke. Most of the hair had been burned from the man's head and he suffered third-degree burns to his scalp for which he had to be hospitalized. Monica had to attend a hearing for the injuries she caused the man, but any charges filed against her were dropped, and she was remanded into the custody of several representatives of Freedom Corps who had come to New York to attend the hearing.

Paragon City

After some intensive training with Freedom Corps' instructors, Monica was able to control her powers and focus them in beneficial ways. Newly registered as a Metahuman and resident of Paragon City, she began her career and shortly after arriving in Atlas Park, met Terra Shaper who she immediately befriended and has been almost inseparable from since.

Terra Shaper

Monica met Jake Wellsin when he asked her to watch a fight between himself and another, more experienced hero. Admiring his bravado, and thinking he was incredibly cute, she agreed and watched as Terra entered the arena and proceeded to lose, and keep on losing every match. She saw that he never gave up and was always pushing himself to improve and learn and so really grew to like him for his drive, his will and strong personality. It wasn't until they opened up to each other about their pasts that her feelings deepened to more than just a casual friendship with him. Now she sees him as her closest friend in Paragon and she would do anything for him, because she knows what's really under that arrogant front of his. They have fought side-by-side several times and have formed a well-meshed team that plays on each other's strengths.

Weaknesses

Despite her status as a "Hero," Three's body is as fragile as any other normal human. She relies on Terra's and her own abilities to avoid injury in combat.
