The world is not kind; it is not pretty, nor is there a happy ending when the struggling finally stops. There is only sorrow, pain, and death.

That ends today.

Origin

The man who would come to be known as Undying Enmity has lost most memories of personal details, and as such his history is choppy at best. What is known is that he was once one of the best and most feared assassins on the United States' eastern seaboard. He was a cold and efficient killer, able to go nearly anywhere to make the kill. Unfortunately, with such prestige and reputation comes the attention of peacekeeping organizations such as Longbow and Wyvern, as well as the ire of superheroes. He had to escape, to retire and flee somewhere with no US extradition treaty. His wife found the perfect score, a job with massive pay that was so important it was a closely-guarded secret; even the assassin chosen for the task would be ignorant of the target until the last possible moment. If only that had been true.

In reality, he was quite literally sold to a mad scientist looking to create the ultimate killing machines. Robots lacked the initiative without self-determination, and brainwashing was unreliable. Instead, the muscle memory and problem-solving skills of true assassins would be taken with their bodies, but their minds would be overwritten by extensive combat programs. Enmity was the first experiment, and the last. The tech installed in his body overwrote his RNA, installing a program that caused him to grow a type of battlesuit instead of skin. He would become a walking portal to the Netherworld, killing targets without leaving a mark as he tore their souls from their bodies. The suit was also self-repairing and would pass on that trait to the rest of his body, which was the only way that the rest of the mechanisms and programming could be added without killing the subject. Unfortunately for all involved, he took too well to the process. Beings from the Nether claimed his body as their own, slaughtering the doctor and all of his assistants. Enmity awoke in darkness, surrounded by death. It would become familiar to him before long.

The Fall

Never one to be seen as stupid, Enmity recognized that this was his chance to finally escape. Knowing that his new monstrous appearance would quickly draw attention anywhere else, he fled to the Rogue Isles and established the villain identity of the Undying Enmity. Unfortunately, villains do not share the same honor code as many professional killers, and Enmity was betrayed on his very first job in the Isles, left to be the fall guy. He was promptly thrown into the Zig, where the warden attempted to remove his battlesuit. This only resulted in long hours of surgery and gallons of black-purple blood being spilled as pound after pound of flesh was excised only to rot away as new meat grew back. Finally, Enmity was clapped in power-suppression manacles and placed in solitary confinement for several years of pitch-black isolation. Because he did not need to eat or drink, he was soon forgotten. Unfortunately for the citizens of Paragon City, Arachnos keeps a detailed list of its villains, and Enmity's name came up during the compiling of lists for Project Destiny. Within a week of the compilation, Enmity was free of the Zig and back in the Isles.
