Wallace "Wally" Patton was smart, but not “top-of-the-class” smart. He had a knack for science, but mostly he was just a kid trying to figure things out. His one big break was landing an internship at the Darwin-Brenner Institute for Applied Physiology, a quirky, underfunded research institute that specialized in animal physiology for medical applications, with a flagship project focused on studying the genetic code behind marsupials' elastic-like tendons and shock-absorbing cartilage, hoping to apply it to prosthetics and sports medicine.
One Friday night, Kaylee Walker, a brilliant fellow intern Wally had been crushing on for months asked him to cover the graveyard shift. Eager to impress her—and secretly thrilled for a chance to feel useful—he stayed behind to tidy up the lab. Earbuds went in as he wiped down equipment and mopped the sterile floors with a lackadaisical energy,
He backed into a mop and its handle fell and clattered against the console of a crucial piece of equipment—the Containment Chamber 7-B, which housed the institute's most promising project: the Adaptive Tissue Graft Serum, a compound derived from the hyper-regenerative muscle fibers and specialized tendons of the Western Wallaby (Macropus eugenii). The chamber's safety protocols failed, its glass casing cracking under the unexpected impact. The reinforced glass of the chamber shattered inward with a pressurized whoosh. A mist of the shimmering, reddish serum sprayed out, and Wally recoiled as it seeped into fresh cuts from the shattered glass. A fever hotter than any he’d ever known wracked his body. His muscles seized and his bones felt like they were vibrating before he fell unconscious.
Wally woke up three days later in the hospital. The lab wrote it up as an equipment failure and the institute's doctors, bound by non-disclosure agreements, called it a "severe allergic reaction to a cleaning solvent." He was fired, of course. His carelessness had destroyed millions of dollars in research. His internship was over, and with it, his meager income. But in the weeks that followed, Wally discovered his body had changed. His muscles coiled like springs. His legs could launch him several stories high. His cartilage absorbed punishing landings and he could contort his body with uncanny balance.
Unable to find honest work and desperate to pay his mounting bills, Wally decided to monetize his terrifying new reality by using his new physical abilities to perform incredible, dangerous parkour stunts across the city's rooftops and construction sites, filming everything for his new, viral TikTok account. He gained followers, even made a little cash. But his recklessness caught up with him. During one rooftop stunt, he misjudged a landing and dropped into traffic, startling a driver who swerved, slammed into a man crossing the street, and left him critically injured.

Filled with remorse and knowing that his carelessness had led to tragedy, Wally remembered a quote his professor once told him in the lab:
From this realization, he decided to become a vigilante, helping whoever he could using the abilities he'd been given.
And yes, he could have picked anything. So why The Wallaby? While not particularly threatening, it just made sense. Not because of any deep symbolism, but because it was absurd enough to work. Wallabies are fast, agile, and capable of feats of ridiculous endurance — and more importantly, they have tails. Tails are cool. It’s science. Sort of.
💪 Enhanced Physiology
Wally’s accident exposed him to a serum designed to mimic the unique musculature and tendon structure of wallabies. The result was a profound physical transformation. His muscles and tendons now store and release kinetic energy with incredible efficiency, giving him explosive bursts of speed, strength, and endurance. His cartilage has been altered to absorb high-impact landings, allowing him to survive falls from great heights without injury. His metabolism runs at an accelerated pace, meaning he recovers faster than normal humans but also burns calories rapidly, leading to near-constant hunger. This combination makes him a natural acrobat with the endurance to sustain long, physically demanding confrontations.
🦘 Superhuman Agility & Reflexes
Wally’s reflexes have been tuned beyond normal human limits. His body responds instinctively to danger—almost like a subconscious reaction—making him remarkably difficult to hit. His balance and spatial awareness allow him to chain leaps, flips, and rebounds with fluid precision, even in chaotic environments. These reflexes extend to combat, letting him dodge strikes in close quarters and react instantly to shifting conditions. While his agility is exceptional, Wally sometimes struggles with controlling his momentum, which leads to mistakes—a weakness he works hard to overcome.
