Krieg Wolf is a what is known as a Wolfen; an intelligent, bipedel, humaniod wolf. His ancestors came to this world centuries ago from another plane of existance, to avoid destruction at the hands of a demonic entity known as Necrom the Undying. Since that time, generations of Wolfen have lived in the shadows of this world and carried on their fight against evil (which they view as Necrom’s hordes or his demonic influences upon this world). Krieg Wolf is a member of the Wolfen Legion super group. He holds a position of Council Elder and is responsible for acting as a second-in-command and recruiting new members into the super group.

Krieg Wolf is a member of the Wolfen Legion super group. He holds a position of Council Elder and is responsible for acting as a second-in-command and recruiting new members into the super group.

Personality

The Iron Claws have always formed the backbone of the Wolfen military might. They are the soldiers who stood the line of battle through the ages and will always rise to defend the Wolfen people. During the decades long “War of the Gods”, Iron Claw soldiers were called upon time and time again by the Lord of the Forest, and his brother god the Lord of the Hunt, to push back the daemon hordes of Necrom the Undying. On the final day of battle, it was the surviving Iron Claw soldiers who were the last Wolfen to escape through the portal to freedom.

In order to better understand the Iron Claw tribe, we must first look to how they are raised and trained. When an Iron Claw male cub is seven years of age, he is taken from his home den-hold, a type of fortified homestead common to the Iron Claw tribe, and sent to a military camp where his education in the ways of the Iron Claws will begin. For the rest of his life, he will be a soldier of the Iron Claw Tribe and the Wolfen people. Iron Claw education from the ages of seven to thirty emphasizes physical toughness, steadfastness in military ranks, and absolute obedience to orders. The life of an Iron Claw soldier is a life of discipline, self-denial, and simplicity. They do not surround themselves with luxuries, expensive foods, or opportunities for leisure. When an Iron Claw soldier completes his training he takes his place among the ranks and swears the sacred oath required of all Iron Claws to defend his tribe and his race unto death

The ideology of the Iron Claw Tribe is oriented around the pack. The individual lives (and dies) for the pack. Their lives are designed to serve the Iron Claw Tribe and Wolfen people from their beginning to their death. The combination of this ideology, the education of Iron Claw males, and the disciplined maintenance of a standing army gives the Wolfen the stability that had been threatened so dramatically in the days after the first Alpha’s death.

Powers

Krieg Wolf has the razor sharp claws and super-human strength common to all Wolfen. In addition, the Wolfen physiology allows Krieg Wolf to preform amazing displays of stamina and healing.

Claws

In most combats Krieg Wolf uses his natural claws, common to all Wolfen. However, in instances where his natural claws might not suffice, Krieg Wolf uses a set of metal war claws that fit over his hands. These metal war claws are sharp enough and strong enough to cut through almost any substance. Each set is passed from Wolfen sire to Wolfen child and have been blessed by the Shamans of the tribe. Krieg's set of war claws are ancient beyond belief and are rumored to have come from a time before the Wolfen race passed through the portal and entered this world.

Strength

Wolfen by design are much larger and therefore much stronger than the strongest of humans. Krieg Wolf, while not the tallest of Wolfen, is by far one of the most massive. His level of strength is such that he can easily uproot a tree or toss aside an automobile, as he has done in battle many times before. Due to his increased strength and stamina, Krieg Wolf can leap great distances and run at an astounding rate of speed.

Rapid Healing and Extended Lifespan

Krieg Wolf's body has displayed incredibly rapid regenerative capabilities, far beyond that of a normal Wolfen. He is able to re-attach disembodied parts in seconds and heal most wounds almost instantly. The exact nature of his super-regenerative powers is not clear; however, it appears to be in part due to the incredibly hardy nature of Wolfen cell structure. In light of his normal Wolfen slowed aging and extended lifespan, it has been theorized that his body's cells die at a much slower rate than those of a normal human.

History

Ancestors

Krieg (War) Wolf, son of Stahl (Steel) Wolf, son of Eisen (Iron) Wolf, is the descendant of a long and prestigious line of Wolfen traced back to the Iron Claw Alpha who led the Iron Claw survivors through the portal to this world. The earliest record of a direct bloodline ancestor is that of Grau (Grey) Wolf, a tribal leader in the territory of Germania in 87 BC. It was the Wolfen forces under the command of Grey Wolf who destroyed the three Roman Legions (XVII, XVIII, XIX) in the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD. It was the destruction of these legions that halted Roman expansion into Germania. The bloodline of Grey Wolf continued to rule the Wolfen in central Europe over the next 1900 years. The Grey Wolfen, as the descendants of Grey Wolf became known, have co-existed with the human race for centuries. They have both warred against and with the different kingdoms and empires of Europe that have come and gone during their long lives. If there is one defining characteristic of the Grey Wolfen, it is their propensity to violence and warfare; even more so than the normally aggressive behavior of other Wolfen bloodlines. It is surmised that this behavior resulted in a very small bloodline population as a greater than normal percentage of Grey Wolfen suffered violent deaths.

Krieg's Early Years

The Grey Wolfen were headed by Geist (Ghost) Wolf, littermate to Krieg Wolf’s father Stahl Wolf. Geist Wolf took over the leadership of the Grey Wolfen in 1806 after a battle against French forces that discovered the Grey Wolfen den-hold during the Napoleonic War. The French forces were totally destroyed, but at the cost of several Grey Wolfen warriors, including the Grey Wolfen leader, Stahl Wolf. Stahl Wolf was impaled by a cavalry lance and died after the Wolfen warriors won the battle. Krieg Wolf was a youngling at the time of his father’s death and as he grew to maturity, began to look upon Geist Wolf as a substitute father figure. When he reached adulthood, as a sign of respect, Krieg Wolf chose to leave the Grey Wolfen den-hold and travel across Europe and into the Americas, rather than challenge Geist Wolf for leadership of the bloodline.

Battle Lines

The Grim Wanderer

It was during these travels that Krieg Wolf fought with the forces of the Prussian Empire in the formation of a German state. It was the use of Wolfen shock troops that allowed the Prussians to overwhelm the other kingdoms in the Holy Roman Empire. During the mid 1800s Krieg Wolf lived with tribes of Wolfen in the American Pacific-Northwest and helped fight against humans, both Amerindian and white, who were encroaching on Wolfen territory. When war broke out in 1914 with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, Krieg Wolf returned to Grey Wolf den-hold and helped in its defense. During the dark days of the First World War, the last sight many troops saw was the snarling fangs and slashing claws of Krieg Wolf. German, French, English and American troops all were hunted and slain when the sun went down and the Wolfen stalked the trenches and no-mans land of the Front.

The Betrayal

When the First World War ended with the surrender of Germany and the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919, Krieg Wolf remained at the Grey Wolf den-hold and helped his aged uncle, Geist Wolf, with the leadership of the bloodline. Krieg Wolf became a “War Leader”, while his uncle continued to lead the bloodline in all other matters. The tribe prospered and birthrates increased as the Grey Wolfen experienced a time of unprecedented bounty and peace. However, if there is one race more bloodthirsty than Wolfen, it is man. Again, the nations of the world warred one upon the other and again the Wolfen would taste the blood of their victims. However, this time a high-ranking member of the German Wehrmacht made contact with the Grey Wolfen and made an amazing offer. If the Wolfen warriors would fight for the German Schutzstaffel, at the completion of the war, when the German forces were victorious, the Grey Wolfen would be given a homeland. They would receive lands over which they could rule, without interference with any country of man. Krieg Wolf advised caution, untrusting of man because of his many worldly travels, but Geist Wolf, seduced by the promise of uncontested land, agreed to send Wolfen warriors to the war. Several weeks later, German soldiers in black uniforms with silver skulls upon their collars, loaded the Grey Wolfen warriors upon trains and transported them to Berlin.

Plans are made to move the Wolfen into battle

Prisoners

The Grey Wolfen were divided into two groups, one for the Eastern Front and the other for a special group deep inside the United States of America, the 5th Column. It was by chance alone that Krieg Wolf found himself among those warriors sent to America. The Eastern Front warriors were quickly moved out of Berlin to assist in the conquering of Russia. Like many others on the Eastern Front, the Grey Wolf warriors were overwhelmed by the hordes of Russian soldiers and the bitter Russian winter. They were never seen again. The 5th Column Grey Wolf warriors were secretly inserted into the United States of America with other German soldiers and helped conduct raids and attacks upon the Allies. Unbeknown to the warriors, the German SS had no intention of keeping the agreement they had made with Geist Wolf. With the majority of the Grey Wolfen warriors away fighting for the Axis, the SS attacked the den-hold and viciously killed every member of the bloodline. When the Wolfen warriors in the 5th Column discovered the treachery through an overheard radio message, they vengefully attacked. Blood ran freely through hidden bases as Wolfen feasted upon those who had been their friends. Even though mere men were no match for an enraged Wolfen, through a combination of technology and simple numbers, the Wolfen were overcome and captured. Now they wore chains and were little more than slave soldiers of the 5th Column.

5th Column Scientist experiments upon their Wolfen captives

The 5th Column continued to control the Wolfen through experimental drugs and used them as slave shock troops against the Allied forces and later, after the war, against the Freedom Phalanx and other heroes. Slowly, through attrition, the numbers of Wolfen began to dwindle as they fell in battle. Because of this, Nosferatu, the dreaded 5th Column scientist, began to experiment upon Wolfen DNA. He was attempting to combine Wolfen DNA and Human DNA in an effort to create replacement shock troops. After many disastrous attempts, Nosferatu succeeded in the creation of pseudo-Wolfen. After this experimental breakthrough, the Grey Wolfen were used for suicide missions in an effort to eliminate the bloodline.

Freedom

As the decades and many battles passed, Krieg Wolf was the sole surviving member of the Grey Wolfen bloodline. The night before he was to make a solo attack against Atlas Park in Paragon City, the Council attacked the 5th Column. During the chaos of the attack and the death and destruction that followed, Krieg Wolf was able to escape into the night. Shortly after his escape, he encountered other Wolfen; these Wolfen had formed a new pack, the Wolfen Legion, and were constructing a den-hold in Paragon City. Alone and the last of his bloodline, Krieg Wolf gladly joined with the other Wolfen. Once again, he fights in the defense of the brother and sister Wolfen, and against the evils of this world.
