Underneath the Martian surface lay genetic instructions to build a bizarre and arcane clone of mysterious origin, dubbed: Mars Five.

BASIC CONCEPT

A bizarre genetic replicant is built from the written instructions buried deep underneath the Martian surface. The fully grown replicant has been named: Mars Five.

BACKGROUND

Voyage to Mars

In 2002, a group of private investors funded a secret voyage to Mars. They constructed a unique cybernetic droid that could drill deep into Martian soil, and uncover the history of the planet from eons ago by examining the geological clues from the drilling.

The investors of the droid are still shrouded in mystery, but the rocket launched from a secret base located on Baffin Island, and it landed on Mars on May 1, 2005. (NOTE: The location the rocket launched from was later to become part of the newly independent nation of Cobiness ).

Four days after the probe landed on Mars, the cybernetic droid drilled a 500 foot hole, into the Martian surface. The location of the drilling took place in a radioactive anomaly that their scanners had detected. Were their isotopes on Mars?

To the astonishment of the scientific staff, the hole uncovered a large steel box - clearly of alien origin. The box had no seals, seams or any noticeable features at all. It was just a steel alloy made from basic iron, and was about 3 foot square. The date was May 5, 2005 (5/5/05) and the discovery was labeled “Mars Five”.

Retrieval & Growth

It took the scientific team over 3 years to retrieve the box and return it to Earth. When it arrived, it was kept in an underground lair funded by the newly independent nation of Cobiness, a native self-government initiative had established the government with help from several wealthy investors. Inside the box, were various vials, tubes, and cell tissue, as well as instructions in a cryptic language based on symbols and algebraic phrasing.

Decoding the language took a few months, but once cracked, illustrated a relative simply process to replicate the DNA within the specimen tubes, and then infuse the cell tissue into the membrane of the creature’s cortex at the time of incubation. The cell tissue apparently, would mutate and through a bizarre combination of replication and chemical reactions, the creature was given pre-programmed memories, and other nuanced information.

Mars Five was now a fully grown DNA clone of mysterious and unknown origin. The clone was kept in stasis once completed, until the creature’s fate could be decided.

Psychological Dampeners

Doctor North took a long and serious look at the psychological imprints and data provided in the documentation, and realized the creature was the replication of an ancient wizard from the galactic core. Activating the creature, would allow it to slowly coalesce its old magical properties. Because this was seen as dangerous (given the unknown origin of the creature), Doctor North inserted a psychological dampener into creature’s brain, a sort of trip wire, which if activated by feelings of malice or uncontrolled rage, would return the creature back to a dormant, static state.

North realized that the clone had been set up specifically as a servant; as if the master wizard wanted each of his clones to service the planet he had been sent to. The clone itself seemed to understand his role, and was constantly “seeking directive”, or “demanding an itinerary of requested tasks”. It also wanted to know who the “primary overseer” was. The creature was then genetically programmed to respond to the command's of Doctor North exclusively.

Mars Five communicated initially by providing text of its symbolic language, but was able to adapt and learn the English language within a few weeks. There were some problems with Mars Five, when he kept insisting it resided on the “fourth planet of Sol” or “Sol 4”. It took some time to convince the clone it had been reclaimed by patrons of “Sol 3” (or Earth). He also took exception to the psychological dampener placed inside his brain, but Doctor North insisted it was necessary.

Primary Overseer

Doctor North established himself as the “primary overseer” of Mars Five. He instructed the replicant on gender, whereby Mars Five claimed he was “male”, based on the fact he had “seeded” several planets with replications of itself. Mars Five had remarkable arcane talents, which allowed him to develop language and other vital skills quickly, despite never having been to Earth. In short order, Mars Five showed remarkable ability in the manipulation of the natural radioactive energy found in Earth’s atmosphere – and most astoundingly demonstrated he could manipulate geological formations, seemingly at whim.

PROJECT BIFROST

Mars Five's latest initiative was the successful completion of a top-secret project dubbed Alpha Squad/Project Bifrost.

This initiative has proven so successful that a new satellite dubbed "Gjallar" is allegedly under-development.

Pi Tau

One of the alien's uncovered during Project Bifrost was a mysterious entity known as Pi Tau. This creature was obtained via the Quantum Beacon of Project Bifrost and then grown from a frozen embryo.

Pi Tau is a powerful dimensional entity that Mars Five believes holds a vital key in Alpha Squad's future.

COMIC BOOK COVERS

First issue of Mars Five explaining his origin.
Issue 2 of Mars Five is a cross-over story that begins in Issue 14 of Alpha Squad.
Issue 3 of Mars Five marks the debut of Mars using Geo-Temporal crystals. An advance he believes can help repair the paradox Pi Tau is trapped and maybe bring back the extinct Xtiplix race.
In issue 4, Mars works with Genetic to defeat a platoon of Sky Raiders in hopes of learning more about the strange amber time crystal, which has created several time paradoxes and has now gone missing.
