Talk:Infinity Inc/Chimes

From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe

Thank you for reading my stories on the VirtueVerse!

I am always interested in feedback: "Hey, I read this, and it was not a complete waste of my five minutes!" is actually reassuring on those days where I've been staring frustratedly at a blank screen. More detailed reactions, reviews, and constructive criticism on my storytelling technique will also help me understand what my target audience -- total strangers, mostly -- might enjoy in a story. Even specific areas of interest would be great!

So, please, if you have a few minutes and any thoughts at all on the linked story, consider clicking the "Add topic" button on the upper right and type away! --Jarissa 03:53, 31 January 2012 (CST)

Reader Advisory:

While the first two chapters of this story are pretty standard fare for a superhero or supervillain comic book tale, I'll be putting a Mature Content warning on Chapter 3 for sexual content and for a vague description of coma-inducing violence, plus another Mature Content warning on Chapter 4 for "Physical, mental, psychological, or other types of coercion or conditioning", including an expectation of post-story torture.

Any readers who live happier lives without spending time on such things are encouraged to imagine that a prior chapter concludes with the words, "And then some villainous crud happened!". Thank you and be well!

Connections for "Chimes"

When I posted this particular story, I was under the impression that it was complete: a one-shot entity, whole unto itself.

Apparently I was in error.

Chapter two, Jangling, will be linked at the bottom of the story page, once it is ready. It picks up mostly where Opal left off. Iceberia is going to get a little more screen time, and Opal might get a little less. Chapter three, Discordant, will get linked at the bottom of Chapter 2 in similar fashion. Opal gets the camera's spotlight back, at least somewhat, and this time Fehral gets little to no screen time. Chapter four, Clamor, finishes up the series; the chime swings back around to Fehral and Opal, with guest roles for some other Infinity, Inc characters. It will be linked at the bottom of Chapter 3 and in the Talk page for Chapter 2 (in case someone wants to skip the caution-generating content of Discordant but feels fine with the different caution-generating content of Clamor).

All named personalities are associated with Infinity, Inc., mostly by being creations of said villain group.
The on-screen cast includes Brigid's Verse, Iceberia, and Fehral.
References in conversation include fellow II creations Killing Dance, Grigaere, Ceylon Spinel, and Kinba Kushi, plus higher-status entities such as an unnamed Hybrid Omega volunteer (long since deceased), various full employees, and the head of the corporation, Simon Arkangel.
Also brought up in conversation is the command system programmed into the Hybrids. By implication one might see bits of the gesture code taught to the Alphas (whose speech ability is physically reduced during their "creation" by surgical redesign of body parts) and expanded by them to cover content beyond the minimum requirements of "do this" and "report results". The Alphas don't typically say the words of the commands when talking only among themselves; they use associated hand motions. When speaking to a mostly-oral communicator such as Opal or the corporate employees, they have to deliberately remember to say the word, and the gesture probably happens reflexively.
