Origins

A different Earth, just one in an infinite amount really, but this Earth's history changed drastically after the great war (World War 1 to us) and the United States government trying to enforce prohibition in the States. The Federal Government was unable to keep the states dry, so States began to enforce it themselves. Eventually this would lead to the states breaking away from the Union and after a great battle, the United States collapsed and the states became smaller nations.

Prohibition was repealed in most of the new nations but the damage was done, the new nations borders would make ground travel too dangerous and so commerce and travel started to be done only by air. Zeppelins and planes filled the skies, Zeppelins would become mobile bases in some cases, as air piracy was an inevitable result.

This world would also be less advanced in some ways, while their planes are more advanced in many aspects, they never developed jet engines for planes. However, they developed; missiles which would follow enemy planes by magnetism, planes which can operate beneath the ocean, radio operated missiles which when launched from a turret can be controlled on where they fly, advanced steam power which gives more power than conventional fossil fueled engines and energy plants, and finally lightning firing weapons.

Captain Amelia Dascomb started her career in piracy when she would steal a plane from her government, getting fed up with the corruptness of all of the nations she thought Piracy would be a more honorable career. Working hard for a few years on Zeppelins, she eventually left the second ship she served on to follow up a lead on some lost gold from a Spanish galleon. She found the gold which gave her enough money to buy her own Zeppelin and hire a great crew which would become, The Tortuga.

Landing in Paragon...

Traveling over the East Coast back in their home dimension, The Tortuga was pulled in to a swirling vortex, a portal large enough to swallow the ship mid-flight. It turned out that a scientist in Paragon -- who the crew call Crazy Joe McClover -- was working on a new portal technology which did not require a spinning doorway. The reason being a system which would let larger objects through portals, like supply vehicles carrying medicine. Or giant robots.

The zeppelin was pulled into this dimension, where it crashed into a small forest, damaging the airships externally and internally. Hull damage, heavy machinery crashing everywhere, medicines and chemicals crashing everywhere, fuel spilling onto the floors all made the ship too dangerous and so the process of repair and cleanup had to be started. Now here, they are also beginning to upgrade certain systems while repairing the ship so that it's eventually gonna be better than before.

The Birds (plus one)

The pilots take great pride in their planes, a plane isn't even ready to fly unless it has a name. Here's a list of their most used planes.

Widow Maker

Captain Amelia Dascomb's favorite plane of her small collection, it's been heavily modified over the years because of her experience in not only piloting but mechanics, making the Widow Maker true to its name.

The Black Cat

Unsung Aria

Silver's Bite

Wolf's plane. It's been modified over his years with the crew, eventually winding up with the heaviest guns he can find. Many would say he sacrifices too much agility and speed for the bigger guns, but Wolf has shown he has the skill to pilot this machine with bite.

Archie's Nest

Crow's plane of choice, or rather, his helicopter. A salvage/repair class, Archie has been used numerous times in hauling loot and goods the crew finds back to the Tortuga. While rarely used in combat, Crow's vehicle is not without some defenses, but is usually subjected to support roles instead.

Terminator

Bloody Waltz

Mourning Glory

Built with two identical cockpits, this plane is often used for training new pilots to take flight. Though an expert pilot oversees the other, one either earns their wings...or loses them.

Affiliations

No group should be without allies, even back in their home dimension The Tortuga had allies spread around the globe, people that would help them when in a bind. Here they have even greater need, as they have found a world drastically different than there own. A world with technology vastly beyong their own dimensions, and with magic and mutations rampant both of which are rare back home.

Temple of the Wilted Lotus

Offering a place of refuge to Tortuga crew members, Amelia accepted their hand of friendship. At times relations have been strained but lately ties with the Temple have been good. They've got an eclectic group but the leader and some of the Temples members are competent magic users which has made them a very useful ally in the past.

Chateau Faux

Most of The Tortuga is naturally distrustful of magic users, so it seemed natural to Captain Dascomb that since they knew nothing about magic, they could use allies which did. Chateau Faux hasn't caused much trouble for the ship or crew yet, so things have been smooth, but they've also been kind of quiet lately.
