Personality

Ozell's personality amounts to that of a textbook supporting character. Free from the oppressive environment of Equinox Laboratories, an unseen confidence has come out of hiding in him-- carrying himself with quiet self-assurance, he is generally modest, soft-spoken, and a lot more down-to-earth than you'd expect for a hero of his caliber. This all gives Ozell a worldly nature that makes it easy for him to get along with others, regardless of who or what they are.

His personality's far from perfect, though; when the going gets tough, Oz is prone to fretting, and can even get a bit whiny. In his case, however, actions speak louder than words--No matter how he's feeling, Ozell is always ready to bring his best under any circumstances, whether for himself or anyone else.

Primary Abilities

Primary Assets

Claws - Originally reflex-activated prosthetic implants, Ozell has switched to buckle-on ultracompact forearm mounts for increased versatility. His different pairs vary in size and function, but one common factor between them is dulled tips so that he can't accidentally stab someone.

Hero Tights - Ozell's signature lime and black tights. Accessories to the outfit are vinyl gloves and boots, utility belt, and a lightweight lime green visor with basic LCD display Ozell often finds hard to read in direct sunlight. Material used for the tights is puncture and tear-resistant; one set will typically last around three weeks before needing to be replaced, but Ozell always keeps a few pairs at arm's length in case a patrol winds up turning into "one of those days".

Iron Cross Armor - Named after the gym he inherited (see below), Ozell called in multiple favours from friends in the Isles for the creation of this flexible-alloy bodysuit. It's the strongest protection he's got, most notably when it allowed him to survive being stepped on by a Kronos Titan; thanks to the suit's crush-resistant limb bracings and some soft ground, Oz walked away with only bruised ribs and a him-shaped imprint in the mud.

Iron Cross Gym - Ozell's home and base of operations is this 1970s-era boxing gym tucked away in the industrial district of King's Row. At one point nearly destroyed while being used by the Skulls as a Superadine lab, Ozell took pity on the place and restored it over several weeks of his own time. The gesture overjoyed the aging owner to the point where he willed Ozell the property, and when the man passed away a year later, it became his. Unable to supervise all the equipment alone, the super-careful Ozell limits its use to people he trusts won't sue his ass off.

Mirrorscythe - Can a persona be an asset? Equinox Laboratories created Mirrorscythe as an alias while they mind controlled Ozell into contract killing, but even after breaking free, he wasn't about to let the Threat Level 50 clearance to to waste. He dons the costume whenever a trip to the Isles is called for; that it's him isn't too big a secret, but Ozell takes care to avoid anything that could be construed as working against Arachnos to avoid compromising his freedom of movement.

Stealth Mk. I - A high-tech less-than-lethal combat suit designed in a collaboration between Ozell and Vanguard. The suit's facemask is packed with more neat gadgets than you'd find in a year's worth of cereal boxes, and the bodysuit itself is made up of a high-grade dilatant material that intelligently reacts to blows. The suit's use of high-powered energy blades allow for enemies to be stunned and incapacitated without lasting harm. Ozell reserves the suit for more sensitive tasks; to date it has been equipped on less than 2% of his missions.

Associates

Agent of Discord - Ironically enough, befriending this Rogue Isles mercenary meant that Ozell's first ally in his career was an 'enemy'. Seeing through circumstance to the good man within them, Ozell and Agent have become close confidants. Whether this partnership extends beyond just trading information remains a closely-guarded secret.

Codename Devilfish - A shady Rogue Isles-based mercenary who's been a thorn in Ozell's side on more than one occasion. Although Ozell can't stand his personality (even knowing Devilfish probably doesn't care either way), Ozell accepts his skill as the real deal and doesn't deny that circumstances have sometimes forced him to turn to the man for help.

Havok Brothers, The - This pair of claw-slinging heroes are perhaps who Ozell looks up to most. They met early in his career during a defence against a coordinated villain attack on Freedom Base in Bloody Bay, and were impressed by his bravery; their working relationship in the months that followed were what defined Ozell's fighting style and technique, even to this day.

Johnathan Warren - Meeting just prior to his joining the Silver Guard, Johnathan has been many things to Ozell over the years. First and foremost, however, Ozell sees him as his closest friend.

Overbrookers, The - As many of his former mentors and coleagues in the Silver Guard wound up in this community-oriented supergroup, Ozell maintains friendly relations with the Overbrookers and works with them often.

Professor Oro - Despite being a mad scientist who likes turning his victims into gold statues, Ozell thinks his maternal grandfather (DNA-wise, anyways) is a billion times cooler than his chainsmoking jerk of a dad. He helps out in his lab sometimes.

Weaknesses and Limitations

Unlike the majority of his regenerating peers who heal so well it'd make a starfish jealous, Ozell's body is not capable of recovering from severe injuries like lost limbs. Aside from being quick to heal, Ozell's physical capacity for recovering is not much better than an average person's. His not-too-recent withdrawal from Equinox Labs strict regime of performance-enhancing drugs make this all the more true.

He's also sort of gullible. Ozell's bullshit detector is as sharp as the next man's, but he still winds up falling for all sorts of things; in order to give people the benefit of the doubt as a matter of personal principle, he's somewhat too trusting for his own good.

Adventures

The following are stories in which Ozell has played a role, listed in chronological order.

Project: Truth

Ozell's story begins with that of his father, Rophyon Hunt. Created in the 1970s during Project: Truth, a government-backed venture run by a private scientific firm to develop psyhicially-gifted humans for use as interrogators, Rophyon escaped when the project was cancelled, having correctly suspected the project's director, Mark Welland, would want the 'assets' liquidated. The several years he spent on the run resulted in both the birth of the two children who would ultimately become Ozell One and Ozell Two, and the conspiracy that took over their lives.

A more detailed account of Project: Truth can be checked out here.

Two Means, One End

Running in-writing and in-game from April to October 2008, Two Means, One End concerned discovering and destroying the conspiracy that defined his life. In it he was accused of murder, ran all over Paragon, ran afoul of the law, smelled foul after spending a week in a sewer, threw a tantrum, threw up, threw his hands in the air like he just didn't care, buried his dead friend, buried his grudges, climbed out of his despair, climbed thirty flights of stairs with one arm sawed off, ate Mexican food, got in a Mexican standoff and did all sorts of other spiffy things before eventually saving the day and moving on with his life. Most importantly, he won his freedom and independence.

The full story needs trimming before it can be put on VirtueVerse, which isn't very high on my to-do-list, but it's here.

Trivia

- Ozell's favourite genre of music is funk.
- Working long hours for no pay at Equinox Labs got Ozell used to working whatever part-time jobs he could manage on the side for some pocket change. He has been a bellhop, a personal assistant, a test subject, a butler, and even a circus acrobat.
- The powerset choice of Claws/Regen was at the same time a nod to my first-ever CoH toon, and because /Regen carrying the most visible signs of a character recovering fit best with Ozell's tenacious personality.
