Transcript excerpts, "Origin of the Androgyne" (Frank Gordon, WSPDR; 2006): "...despite warnings that the child would face social difficulties, Rudy and Gilda decided against surgical differentiation." "...by all accounts a loving and supportive home environment; Ani was a treasure to the Hesses." "...teasing and mockery throughout the junior high years took a subtle toll on Ani's stability, despite eir parents' positive influence." "...disturbing and mysterious death of five students, all known tormentors of young Hess...identical deformities attributed to mutagenic radiation exposure..." "...a marked change in Ani's personality...aura of confidence and self-possession...immune to taunts and derision..." "...elected Homecoming Regent. Members of eir class who suspected eir involvement in the murders five years prior staged a humiliating display during the coronation..." "...exposed, tarred, feathered..." "...made the climax of 'Carrie' look like a minor tantrum." |
Allies
Vanguard
The Androgyne signed up with the Vanguard the day the Second Rikti War began. While e forged new allegiances after defecting from Arachnos, e still placed eir Vanguard duties above almost all else for as long as e remained one of their operatives. E is still swift to respond to invasions in both Paragon City and the Rogue Isles if eir circumstances at all allow.
In the year and a half following the start of the Second Rikti War, Ani achieved the rank of Lieutenant within the Vanguard Sword, but e rarely if ever mentioned eir rank except to offer an alternative to "Mr." or "Ms." to the confused. Functionally speaking the rank was largely honorary, a recognition of eir continuing contributions to the war effort. E has always thought of emself not as an officer or a soldier but rather as a weapon of the Vanguard.
Following Paragon City's revocation of the Reciprocators licensing in July of 2009 and eir ensuing refusal to turn emself over to FBSA custody following the lapse in eir sponsorship according to the terms of eir clemency agreement, Vanguard has disavowed all affiliation with the Androgyne. Already on thin ice with the Sword for involving emself in a U.S. military operation in Afghanistan in June, and only recently removed from suspension to participate in July's drop ship assaults, Ani's refusal to cooperate with the terms of the agreement orchestrated by Vanguard has left em regarded as persona non grata in their headquarters despite eir previous contributions.
The Vanguard has not, however, called for eir apprehension should e be encountered in the War Zone without their approval. Disinclined as they may be to work in an official capacity with the Androgyne, the Vanguard has no intention of spurning em so thoroughly as to dissuade them from pursuing eir own vendetta against the Rikti.
