Elle Est La Femme Fatale

We've all met her. The one. The none.

black miasma of mistique
her figure gracious, sleak
You catch her fullmoon eyes. Run.
But you won't. And you know you're done.

The corset of darkness flattering her form
skin like flawless satin
concealing all that's rotten
don't show frustration, nor your scorn
from that your demise is born.

She runs her spidered fingers through her locks
which gleam like gems
and she condemns
your soul to the devil, that seductress, that fox
the moment you are finished settled on the clocks.

Lies roll off her tongue like sweet champagne
sets her finger's tip
upon her scarlet lip
the sound that ceases sound, now begins the game
you aren't strong enough to abstain.

Her lips capture yours in affections fervent
living in her lust
give in, yes, you must
the rosethorns in your gut lashing pain so ardent
little do you care she's the shroud of the serpent

The hand of time strikes the hour
this is it
no candles lit
in the darkness of your thoughts you scour
yet fail to find a liberating power.

Hand in hand you observe life's obscene chorale
A spirit without her
all else remains a blur
just one phrase plays over in your skull

"Elle est la femme Fatale."

The Agent of Chaos

-Social-

The Femme Fatale, a mask behind a mask, Champagne cloaks herself in a pleasant shroud to conceal the apex predator. Champagne has a complex psychological profile, being a woman who has histrionic personality disorder and might be a borderline sociopath. However, like all histrionic individuals, she's high-functioning and very amicable, which is often mistaken for being a good-natured individual . She possess an overall nihilistic outlook on life and falls somewhere in between Chaotic Neutral and Lawful Evil. Given the choice, Champagne will always serve in the interest of Villains, being unabashedly, unapologetically criminal. With aggression providing a stark contrast to her pleasant demeanor, she believes that the predator-prey relationship is applicable in all areas in life.

Champagne charms her way through life and finds herself rarely cracking under pressure, if at all. One would get the distinct feeling that there is a barrier to her true feelings, the way she is so quick to chat someone up, yet constantly keep them at an arm's length away.

She has a passion for beauty and indulgence. 'If it feels good, do it.' May appear flighty at times, but is actually quite intelligent and quick-witted, possessing a sharp tongue. Very vain and keen on fashion and strives to look good in every situation. That vanity even follows her into combat. In situations where a quick, clean kill is not an option she prefers to fight with stylish flare. With nimble, almost choreographed footwork, she is light on her feet as she maneuvers around her targets with fluid grace.

She's an incorrigible flirt and tends to communicate through touch and animated hand gestures in conversations.

If there's danger, Champagne is attracted to it like a moth to flame. For work, it means that she enjoys the hunt; the threat of being discovered as she closes in to her target before the kill. Off-duty, it means that she is a sucker for the dark gentlemen.

-On the Job-

Champagne is a workaholic. She always run multiple stints at once - working for Arachnos in the day, moonlighting as a mercenary at night along with her myriad personal projects. She feels that the harder she works, the harder she needs to play, though. Being trained as a widow meant knowing how to lead a team and though she is quite capable and comfortable with leading, she prefers to use her leaderships abilities to keep morale high while someone else leads the charge.

She draws a strict boundary between work and play. She cannot stand it if the two mix. That being said, she has a personal rule to never date anyone she works with.

When it comes to killing, she is telekinetic all the way, preferring not to get her hands dirty. Her favored way of offing a target is to stalk them down and tear their mind apart by wracking the synapses. It's fast and effective and leaves no mess. She will only use her widow blade or poison darts to backstab foes that are resistant to mental havoc. She adores the element of surprise. Consequently, she spends most of her hunts cloaked.

You Stumble Across Personal Account, Found In Her Dossier

Hello, dear reader, and congratulations for stumbling onto my mini-memoir. As an operative who takes secrecy very seriously, I will tell you all you need to know about my past without revealing data that is too sensitive. You understand, don't you? I needed to get it out there somehow and this way I feel like only those who deserve to know, will know.

I was born and raised as an only child in the slums of Mercy Isle to ordinary parents, yet somehow have always felt fundamentally different from them. I don't have a family history of I genetic mutation, yet I was gifted with the psychic ability. My childhood was a common story among those who live there: scraping to get buy, constantly living in fear of criminals, snakes, corrupt cops, and living without hope that anything would change. Well, maybe except the hopelessness part. And the part where I was a psychic, but that didn't come on until later on in life. In the Mercy slums, being pretty meant trouble, as I was constantly harassed by the local thugs. Fortunately for me, I was also born with a clever mind, so between those close calls I fared fairly well. I also wanted to use my cleverness to act or sing or perform. I remember wanting to do so very badly until I was about thirteen, before I went to Grandeville. But I'll get to that part later.

My mother was a bartender and a performer at a local pub. I'd usually go with her to work after school because she wanted to keep a close eye over me, so much of my study time was spent at the bar. My father worked for upper-Mercy's maintenance department. Both earned way less than one should have been paid, but despite that, they worked so hard to make sure I felt loved and had a chance to live a normal life as much as one could in the area.

I was aware of my parents struggle to make sure I had a stable life and appreciated it, but I was just so unhappy with mere stability. I was oblivious to how bad my life really was until I was thirteen years old, about the time when we made a trip to Grandville to find a better life.

It embarrasses me to admit this, but I was amazed when I first went to Grandville. Though the air was filled with intimidating vibes, but I found it thrilling. As we walked through the streets to make our way to the main tower, I marveled at all the Arachnos soldiers, widows and technology around me.

My parents allowed me to wander around the facility while they waited in line for an evaluation for employment at Arachnos HQ. I wandered toward the corridors meant for high-ranking Arachnos operatives only. I barely made it into the doorway before being stopped by a guard. He gave me a quick warning and that's when I saw her. Ghost Widow. I remember that moment as clear as day. Body as beautiful as a diamond. Hair like quick silver. So ethereal she seemed to float. I caught her gaze for only split second, but in that instant, something powerful and dark awoke within me. It was a turning point in my life.

My parents did not pass evaluations and we returned to Mercy. I felt the need to learn all I could about Arachnos and about Ghost Widow. The more I read, the more fascinated with her I grew. The stories of the Arachnos widows was so seductive. Alluring, beautiful, mysterious, powerful, deadly - oh how I longed for my time to rise to that role. Impressionable me inadvertently indoctrinated myself and discovered that I agreed with the predator-prey philosophy of Recluse. My parents couldn't understand it. But I could understand them because my psychic ability had begun to awaken and their thoughts and feelings toward me interrupted my thoughts often. My relationship with my parents started to deteriorate. And when I learned that Ghost had a particular interest in Kalinda, who was located right in Mercy, my path to Arachnos became clear. I would try my hardest, with the help of a few contacts, get discovered by Kalinda, despite all the warnings I received about how cut-throat Arachnos was.

One thing I regret is not saying good-bye to my parents before I left. I'm a selfish girl, you know, and at the time I was so thrilled with the thought of following in the footsteps of my beloved Ghost Widow that it just didn't occur to me to do so, but I've sworn to do everything in my power to conceal the fact that they are connected to me. It was the last thing I could do for them. At 3 am in the morning, I took off for Grandville to begin my training.

There are those who would put down Arachnos as an organization, but let it not be said that their training isn't top-notch. My body broke over and over from the sheer physical demands of 'basic training', but it would pale in comparison to the surgical procedures one had to undergo to transition from being a recruit to widow. And when it was discovered that I had psychic ability, I was immediately ushered into the Fortunata Program. The physical training was hard, but the gene therapy sessions to bolster my psychic talent was almost my breaking point. Not to mention that something about switching on genes turned my auburn hair pink. I shudder thinking about that time.

It was all worth it, though when I became a Fortunata, one of the elite killers. The induction ceremony gave me an intoxication that I will never forget. To have Ghost Widow look me in the eye and recognize me as one of her own was just...it made the pain worth it. The high lasted for days.

I was still on that high while I was finishing up the paperwork. There I was, sitting at the terminal trying to think up a name that would forever remind me of what I felt when I moved from girl to Femme Fatale. It needed to be something that could give you the most glorious, most exquisite intoxication.

Champagne.

Admittedly it's not the most serious name. And maybe it's hard to take a pink-haired killer seriously. But I don't worry about the opinions of dead people.

Her Story Arcs

All I know spins out of control
Wonder what's next for heart and soul

-To catch a Valkyrie
Part 1:Champagne is an ambitious girl. Her crazy plan to catch a valkyrie to steal it's power to add to her own and give her immortality leads her to learn the hard way why not to make deals with devils. Fooled into thinking that he'd merely hold onto her soul for safe keeping, the demon Almudar seals Champagnes memories and sends her on a game of his to unlock her memories and ultimately deliver the Valkyrie soul for himself to posses. Her soul is returned to her, albeit fractured and weak because he fed off of it while he possessed it. It is during this time that she meets the demi-god Lord Mortis. Unusually kind and sympathetic to her plight for being a dark being, she turns to him as the only one she trusts. Inevitably, she falls for him.
Part 2: Champagne continues to pursue Almudar for revenge and to recover the Valkyrie soul, working together with the mysterious Stone Orchid, who once knew him. Before she can lay a finger on him, she learns that the demon has been cast back into hell, taking the Valkyrie soul with him.

-The Tattoo
Champagne and Fallout fever were sent on a mission to annihilate a branch of family that was responsible for Ghost Widow's death. Upon learning the fact, she is zealously eager to succeed in this mission to boost her favor in Ghost Widow's eyes. They track down and corner the family, only to discover that they were lead into a trap. The building was detonated, burying them alive and killing most of their unit. Fallout, however, used the power of his three sealed demons to save himself and Champagne, who suffered a head wound and scared the right side of her face and also affecting vision in her right-eye After spending weeks healing, she decides to tattoo the right side of her face to 'own' her wounds. She chose a stylistic cherry blossom Tattoo.

-A Lucky encounter
Back on the hunt for a holy power to save her withering life force, she is visited by a fallen angel who over hears her plight. He seeks her out, knowing her intentions, and accepts her challenge. Champagne duels him fiercely, doubting she could truly win against a being so much more powerful than her, but takes a serum given to her by Stone Orchid that temporarily gives her powers beyond her abilities, and it's just what she needs to best her foe. Defeated, the angel gives her all the holy power he possessed and she uses it to temporarily patch up her life-force and augment her own power. Unbeknownst to her, the angel had every intention of losing because he wanted to complete his fall and become an infernal being.

-Hunting Fallout
Fallout broke his ties with Arachnos and as a result, had a price put on his head. Champagne, with her new partner Marshal Graves, were issued official orders from Ghost Widow herself to hunt down Fallout and neutralize him. Ghost Widow used it as a test for Champagne, who began to catch her eye. This left Champagne torn over hunting down her ex-partner because she was close to him and because he saved her life, but she also wanted to prove herself to Ghost Widow after the dismal failure of her last official mission. She stayed on his trail for many weeks. Secretly, though, she was in contact with Fallout the whole time, but turned a blind-eye as long as she could as a favor, knowing that eventually Ghost Widow would demand results. She felt guilty about keeping it a secret from her partner, Graves, whom she was growing closer to. Graves, aware of her feelings about killing her ex-partner, said that he'd do the deed for her when it came time for the execution, but feared that she'd resent him for it. Some weeks later she received a video message from a message from Fallout that supposedly showed his final message to her and his final moments. She hasn't heard anything from him since. With that as her only proof of his demise, she turned over the evidence and the case is listed as resolved. Both she and Graves feel that the case can never truly be closed unless they see a body, though.

-Touching the Void
Power-hungry Champagne decides it's time to acquire an ace up her sleeve, coming to the realization that her cunning and inventive use of her abilities can only bring her so far in a universe full of meta-humans and immortals. She consults her best friend and confidant Acanous, who tells her to consider making contact with the source of Ascendant's power, but only if she'd consider being a keeper of the balance, similar to what he is. After some discussion with him, she finds that role compatible with her own philosophies and decides to do so. Acanous devises a plan to infiltrate Portal Corp and open a gate to the dimension of the Entity, the source of the fallen Ascendant's power. While a team of operatives kept the Longbow forces at bay, Ac and Cham open the portal after Ac physically anchors Cham to Primal Earth using just a tether tied around her waist. With her life literally dangling by a thread, she crosses the threshold and makes contact with the Entity, giving herself to it. It's touch is so vast and cosmic for even a meta-human to handle and she blacked out from the violent release of psychic and cosmic energy like a supernova from her mind as the two melded. When she came to, she found that, in the same fashion Kheldians merge with their host, the Enity had it's will combined with her own. Or her will combined with the Entity's. She can never be sure of where her mind ends and where it's begins, or what other changes it's touch had done to her. There is only one thing she's certain of, and that is that she will continue to live as long as she wills it, but the Entity made it know that her life will eventually come to an end, as all things will in the Primal Earth Universe, which it seeks to consume. But she will be able to choose how it ends.

Themes

The Human Spirit
Champagne always questions what it means to be human. Selfishness, pain, and pleasure defines the human experience. The bad experiences she had with demons and a certain demi-gods has only polarized her views that human spirit is unconquerable and beautifully resilient, citing her own situation of rising up from a miserable position in life to running among the ranks of super heroes and villains.

Truth, Lies, and Identity
Champagne is a woman who weaves barriers of lies around her. For her early work in Arachnos, it meant her survival. Her missions consisted of assuming a different identity with each mission because she had to go under-cover, so she's well accustomed to acting and making up believable stories on the fly, though she enjoyed it because she had always wanted to be a performer of some sort. Her under-cover work ended after her family mission failure because her scars and tattoos would make her too recognizable, but she found that she couldn't quite give up the acting or the false stories. When facing her own personal truths or when she lets her true feelings surface, she struggles and becomes uncharacteristically clumsy with her words. Or maybe that is who she truly is since Champagne is only her Arachnos/Villain identity. She touched on the subject briefly while talking with Travis Larson, referring to herself in the third person (using her real name) and talking about her identity Champagne as if she were an entirely different person.

Chaos
"I am an Agent of Chaos. What that means is that I serve the cosmic balance by disrupting it, eliminating life in the way an apex predator does to keep the vermin population in check. For things to be balanced, the prey must outweigh the predators. And so it is with villains. Heroes and civilians are the prey. Villains are predators. Villains challenge the status-quo and cause havoc the way a hurricane does to reset it's environment. It's a law of the universe. Therefore is violence really evil? Some would say so, but so be it. But I tell you, if the pendulum swung in the other direction and villains outnumbered heroes I would swing opposite of it and serve the other side in interest of toppling everything and returning things to zero."

Character Notes

-She usually wears a smile and does not succumb to intimidation. Chalk it up for all the hard times spent growing up.

-More than anything, she is a telekinetic.

-Does have Telepathic abilities, but can only read minds in a one-mile radius. When she makes skin contact with her target, her mind-reading abilities are unhindered and can manipulate thought.

-Has a condo in St. Martial; Jackpot district. Drives A Buygatti Veyron.

-Used to be partnered with Fallout Fever, also known as Chrono Web. They functioned really well together. Due to certain circumstances, they parted ways.

-Was partnered with Marshal Graves before she left Arachnos

-Used to be in love with Lord Mortis. However, she broke off communication with him when she heard that she was arousing suspicion because Mortis and his order is an enemy of Arachnos. She had also been having visions of his downfall and felt that her presence had something to do with it. In typical Champagne fashion, she made up an false story as to why she needed never to see him again, but later told the truth. During her absence, Mortis had already fallen for another, yet continued to return Champagnes feelings. He ended up marrying Darque Faethe, leaving her heart-broken. Feeling played, Champagne now holds a grudge against Mortis (and all demi-gods, for that matter).

-Once hit Arbiter Death so hard it left an indent in his shape on the Red-side bar wall. It became the new kitchy decor.

-Has a small companion usually on her person or near her- a small, sentient chrome spider given to her by Weaver 9.0 which she has named "Fang". Fang often assists her when she's under-cover or doing espionage, but she never brings him into combat situations because Weaver made her promise to keep him out of harm's way. Fang is small enough to fit in the palm of her hand and hides in her widow pack (the armor widow's wear) when he's not feeling active.

-Character influences include Emma Frost, Eva Garder (who is her voice claim), Lana Del Ray, Irene Adler, Aeon Flux, Vi Sovari (Dark Angel Trilogy), and Ada Wong

What tasteful poison can conceal

a life cut short in bloom
the shadows hide what would congeal
this spider's silken loom
Wind itself dances to her call
no whispered secret can hide
men have chased her only to fall
to Death's capricious young bride
With promises of carnal delight
and payment meted out in pain
her love fickle as a bird in flight
slick red lips tasting of sweet Champagne
One chance is more than most men get

if left unseized leads to regret.

Rumor has it....

I don't know why I'm writing this. I don't know if anyone's there to read it. The Battalion's arrival knocked even me for a loop.
Regardless, Miss Liberty, I suppose I still owe you for Siren's Call, and finding such a gaping hole in your archive...
Well, I know a few things about Codename: Champagne. She's impulsive and a cerial dater, for one thing. Fun and energetic off the field.
When I met her, she was working for the Weapons Union. She's had contact with Second Circle as well, though the nature of that
relationship is seriously circumspect.
Cham shows no hesitation to kill, and should not be engaged by nonpowered operatives, and carefully by powered operatives.
I'm updating this to the Longbow Dropbox in Sector Two, Foxtrot anchor. If anyone's around to read this, the most important thing I can tell you is...
Cham's still alive.
-Acanous
