From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible. - Arthur C. Clark
DB is a refugee from a world that never accepted it's mutants. She and a few others were rescued out of the final battle by an entity called The Traveler. He dropped them off on a world they'd never explored only telling them they could be what they were meant to be in this place before he left them, weakened from the battle and trip, standing on top of a large statue in a place called Atlas Park. This wrung out group stumbled into City Hall and the offices of GIFT. They reformed as a team and started rebuilding their lives, some seeking to find their way back home to return to the war there and some hoping to have finally found a home.
Eventually DB married her long time on and off boyfriend and teammate. For the next 2 years, they were happy and in love. But he changed. Something darkened his mind and soul. DB sought the help of GIFT but the little they did to investigate showed nothing. Then she went to MAGI, hoping to find a mystic or psychic there that would help. MAGI told her that as they were mutants, it fell to GIFT to deal with the issue. This whole time she watched her beloved Doug slowly become a monster. Eventually, desperation and terror led her to do the unthinkable. Finding him tormenting one of the many people they'd sworn to help she quietly reached out and seized control first of his body, then looking him in the eyes and seeing nothing left of him, she quietly stole the electrical power from his brain.
She carried his remains to GIFT and turned herself in. DB refused to see any of her teammates from then on. A year and a half later she was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 12 years in the Ziggursky Penitentiary. Never once did she try to protest this or beg for leniency. GIFT kept the trial fairly quiet and both DB and her husband disappeared into obscurity. She did everything she could to keep herself in solitary confinement and on the maximum dose of mutation suppressant drugs. When Arachnos came, she stayed.
Even 12 years will pass and DB's sentence did. The day she was released she gathered her personal effects and walked out to a changed world. Quickly realizing how weakened she was from her time in prison, she scraped together what funds she could and made her way to the Rogue Isles. After a day there she'd found herself a cheap slum apartment on Mercy Island and was working with a local mercenary contact to make drinking money. If she wasn't hitting things and people for cash, she was at Pocket D drinking.
When DB first came to the Isles she had no interest in joining any groups. Events landed her in Inevitable Evolution and she rose through the ranks quickly. Despite this she never felt fully respected by all the other leaders of IE. When she was called upon to run things she had enough of the disrespect and attitude and walked away before she could completely crack from the stress of trying to lead those that refused to follow. There were those that decided to come with her and have become like a family to her. She made The Last Bastion to serve as a home and purpose for her new family.
Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again. - Franklin P. Jones
After getting things going with The Last Bastion DB started keeping herself busy doing tons of things. She openned offices in Paragon City after getting some legalities cleared up there and enjoys working back in the City, though she won't admit it.
DB discovered that her free wheeling from world to world was seriously hurting her and had to put that aside. She did it one more time and discovered she'd been lured into a trap. After that she's not expecting to change worlds without another person taking her, if at all. Now she's focusing on growing The Last Bastion into a serious enterprise.
Everything in excess! To enjoy the flavor of life, take big bites. Moderation is for monks. - Robert A. Heinlein, Notebooks of Lazarus Long
Does the person make the powers or the powers make the person? DB's emotions can change just as fast as the electricty she can bring forth. She's violently loyal and expects the same from those she gives her friendship. Her impulses can and often do get the best of her, however. She'll be the first to tell you her mouth gets her in trouble. Yet, her instincts are pretty solid when she doesn't try to over think things. She is a creature of strong passions that linger. As she seems to have either stopped or dramaticly slowed aging there is no end in sight for her grudges.
Limitations and Weaknesses
He attacked everything in life with a mix of extraordinary genius and naive incompetence, and it was often difficult to tell which was which. - Douglas Adams
DB is by far the biggest limitation on herself. Whether it's not allowing her powers to come instinctively or getting in the way of her own relationships, she is personally the biggest hurdle she has to deal with.
DB's speech issues seem to be clearing up, rather suddenly.
Affiliations and Relationships
One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life: That word is love. - Sophocles
The Last Bastion - When she left Inevitable Evolution some others left and came to her looking for a home. She formed this group from those people and they've been quietly growing. They fight to protect those that need it in the Isles and help some find new lives away from the constant threats of the Isles. The people that work with her are either heroes that had to leave the City or just good people in the Isles that want to make a positive difference.
Luna Firespeaker - The first friend DB made in the Isles. They met in one of the many bars of the Pocket D and rapidly bonded. Either despite or because of the emotional issues they both have, they have become extremely close and communicate most everything.
Jamie Savage - They met trying to save a life and now theirs are tied together forever. They have a bond that few know about. She calls him her son and he calls her Mother. She's currently trying to work out the legalities of making that real to the rest of the world.
Hallow Finish - DB didn't know how to deal with Holly at first. Holly is soft spoken and intelligent girl but DB thinks she needs to learn to speak for herself a bit more. DB has come to care very deeply for the girl that Jamie Savage calls sister. When asked, DB took Holly in without reservation and hasn't regretted it at all.
Zakath - DB was wary of him, but warmed quickly to him. Despite his appearance he's a gentle, caring creature that DB considers to be one of her best friends.
Nelik - As usual she was incredibly wary of him at first because he's a psychic. When he came to her and asked if he could help The Last Bastion without leaving Inevitable Evolution he earned a great deal of respect. When he asked if he could be a full and permanent memeber she agreed readily. He's now one of her officers and a trusted friend.
You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star. - Friedrich Nietzsche
DB became fully aware of her powers later than many mutants. She was 21 when she learned what she could do. She has some control over the whole electromagnetic spectrum and probably could have more, but has always focused on the electric range of the spectrum. After her time in the Zig her powers were manifesting in new ways and she had to fully relearn how to use them. She is also blessed/cursed with an amazing healing rate, most likely because of an unconscious level of control over her own body's energies. Recently she's been experimenting with new ways to use her abilities. This has lead her appreciate her powers all the more and, to some degree, fear them.
There are a few things to note:
-Radiation isn't all that dangerous to her. It takes extreme and extended exposure to harm her.
-She can magnetize/demagnetize objects. Her control over this is limited, but she does use this in small daily activities.
-She's practicing some control over visible light.
-DB avoids carrying electronics. She knows she's hard on them and shortens their life span significantly. She has the same effect on light bulbs and batteries.
-Injuries that would put most people in the hospital heal quickly. Bruises are usually gone in a day. Even when she's looking fairly beat up DB most likely doesn't even feel it.
-She's learning to focus most of the range of her powers around her fists. This is proving to be difficult and she can't hit as hard as she'd like.
