Gravethief was originally created as a Praetorian in mid-2011, but then revised after Freedom with the release of Street Justice on 10/22/11. He is not unlike many of my other characters (especially Strango and Wild Time.)
Made in Detroit
Jack was born into the Detroit Swipers, a group of thieves that mostly comprised of the Berrick's Syndrome-affected mutants, a group of families that mutated due to a chemical attack during the early years of the Cold War. This affected their genes, and while most of those who were afflicted originally died relatively young from various cancers, their kin lived with the ability to repair their bodies much faster than a normal human, and thus were also granted the strength of a bodybuilder (which means a bodybuilder of this bloodline could achieve peak or even supernatural strength.) Berrick's also forced a skin pigment change that manifested at puberty to a light blue.
Jack aspired to become the best thief of all the Swipers and make enough money to lead the Swipers out of poverty. At late childhood, he'd fight with some of the adolescent gangs that came and went around the neighborhood. Astoundingly, his extreme strength was enough to beat them all into the ground, even at his age. He had lost very few fights to anyone in his book. His parents were jaded over his new found love for fighting, especially considering fighting could draw unnecessary attention to the Swipers.
His particular family had a constant struggle with the Arduci family, another Berrick's Syndrome mutant family, who were revered as the best thieves of the gang. Jack's parents would constantly butt heads with eachother over who acquired what loot, what share should be given to whom, etc. But one day, Jack did something stupid. Something that would ruin his life-and his family's reputation-forever.
He unknowingly stole the filled wallet of one of the most powerful mobsters in the city. Excitedly, he returned home with filled pockets and great news about his steal. But the Arduci family knew exactly who he stole from... and wanted to make sure the guy knew who took his wallet. So, they contacted the boss and told them who took his cash. They busted into the dilapidated hideout, asked who did it, got told it was Jack's family and they were on their way out with some new slaves.
Road to Rhode Island
3 years later, it was decided Jack had raised enough money for just him to leave. He bought his freedom and left his parents to buy their own, mostly by their request. It is currently unknown if his parents are still alive or if they're still out there somewhere. As much as Jack loved his family, he figured it was time to set out on his own.
He stayed in Detroit for the time being, and was caught by the cops for mugging a woman off the sidewalk.
