Meo Tsang

From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe

Meo is, ultimately, a giant parody of a lot of things. First off, he is a parody of the Sushi Schoolgirl Squad, although the death of Suki Miho has lessened that to a very significant extreme. Second, he is a massive parody of anime. Meo is also a functional idiot, devoid of cunning, and yet manages to beat difficult enemies using trickery that his intelligence would otherwise not allow. He makes ridiculous jumps in storyline 'power level' and uses his signature techniques in extremely weird and often inappropriate ways. His storyline powers are also often skewed significantly to fit his ingame capabilities. Perhaps most significantly is Meo's parodying of anime fan culture. He is a gigantic fan of Naruto, punches people with his chi and calls it "Rasengan" and is generally overzealous about movie and anime culture and assumes that movie culture applies to real life. He is an absolute blast to roleplay, and is also quite fun to play on teams. The problem, of course, is that too many people take him too seriously. While -he- is serious about what he is saying, -I- am usually not.

Backstory

Meo comes from a middle-class Chinese family who own a family restaurant in Haven. Meo's father is the head chef, while Meo's brother is a busboy. Meo used to be a busboy as well, a wimpy Chinese kid who watched anime, including Naruto and the Sushi Squad Happy Fun Hour, and thought he knew kung fu. The local Goldbrickers cells had a habit of picking on Meo when he was a kid, but the poor guy was worthless as a fighter and would just get beat up.

One day, Meo observed a powerful ninja take on some Arachnos thugs while he was making Chinese food deliveries. Meo ran after the ninja, and even though the nimble assassin leapt onto rooftops, Meo was persistent, chasing the ninja from the airport all the way to Aeon City. When the ninja finally stopped, Meo collapsed, out of breath.

The ninja revealed himself to be Kowasu, a Destined One. Kowasu was an old man, having contemplated the meaning of life and the martial arts for hundreds of years before coming to the center of all things. Kowasu was a master of harnessing his own internal energy and directing it with deadly precision.

Meo begged and pleaded with Kowasu to teach him the secrets of Ninjutsu. Kowasu took Meo to Mercy Island, and Meo began his training. Giving Meo a flier for the Virtue Master of Melee Tournament, Kowasu said to Meo, "In seven days time, you must master these things, so you may go to this tournament." Meo took Kowasu's words to heart.

Heart of Fire

Kowasu began by teaching Meo the art of stealth. Explaining that Meo must breathe properly and learn to harness his chi, Kowasu left to practice his ninja skills by pilfering panties from unsuspecting Aeon University students. Meo breathed and practiced, and felt the energy well up within him, a surge of energy a hundred times brighter than that of Kowasu's. However, Meo lacked the control to harness it, and his energy erupted in a blaze of fire around him, searing everything nearby. Meo eventually took control of his energy, but it remained as a fiery wall, surrounding him. Kowasu returned, amazed that Meo had learned to control his chi. "You cannot do this!" he exclaimed. "The way of the ninja is stealth, and surprise! But you are a blinding wall of light! Control your chi!" Kowasu berated Meo, but even still the young Brute could not contain his fire.

Gleaming Fists

Kowasu directed Meo to concentrate his chi, to direct it in a mighty punch. Meo's first attempts were not so successful, but in time, Meo easily mastered both Kowasu's Dragon Dagger and Roaring Dragon.

Unstoppable Blaze

Kowasu then explained the arts of movement and escape. Meo had not yet fully gained control over his chi, and Kowasu hoped that by explaining more subtle ways of using it, that Meo would learn. Kowasu finished his lecture by running to a group of Family ruffians and poked one of the Capo Muscle in the eye before running back to Meo and giving him a hug. Meo looked at Kowasu briefly, then looked at the Family converging on him. "Oh wait, I don't think I'm ready for this!" Meo exclaimed as Kowasu ran away, leaping up over a tall building and bounding away under the cloak of shadows. Meo looked blankly at the Family and cracked his knuckles. "I'm gonna beat all of you... believe it!"

Ten minutes passed and Meo had not followed Kowasu. "Perhaps that was not such a good idea..." he muttered, looking for his young student. He found Meo back where he had left him, still fighting off the Family with lightning fast punches and kicks, exchanging bullets with powerful blows. Even though the Family's attacks seemed to bring Meo low, he would bounce back rapidly, ready for more. A half hour passed while Kowasu watched, and Meo had brought the fifteen or so mobsters to their knees. "You still need to work on your leaping," Kowasu explained.

Chinese Take-out

A few days passed, and Meo became more and more proficient, mastering the ability to move around swiftly. Instead of driving, he took his family restaurant's deliveries on foot, leaping from building to building all over Cap au Diable, darting through streets with expert speed and finesse. He still hadn't learned to move with subtlety, but his agility was far beyond any normal human's. He returned home after his deliveries only to find Marcone thugs trying to extort protection money from his family. In a fit of rage, Meo leapt high and smashed downwards with a flying Roaring Dragon, which Meo now coins the Tsang Flying Special. He whirled around with lighting speed, smashing another so hard it knocked him out cold. Meo unleashed his full power, striking down the Marcone thugs before they fully knew what was happening. Before they could retreat, Meo was upon them with glowing fists of righteous justice, shouting out battle cries from his favorite anime shows. Kowasu descended from his perch high above, looking down at Meo, frowning. "You are ready," he said.

Virtue Master of Melee

Before the tournament, Meo happened upon the she-devil known as Sister Pandora. Meo, eager to test his skills and thinking a girl would be an easy mark, he battled her. Meo's fists proved little against the unstoppable fury of Pandora, and she beat him without much effort. Training against the swordsman Rondellus, Meo found that Rondellus would deflect his every punch with his flashing steel, but that Rondellus' sword was of little use against Meo's speedy recovery. They called the fight a draw.

In the first round of the tournament, Meo battled Elite Dreadnought. Her energy aura seemed impenetrable, but Meo fought on valiantly. Her dual swords cut deep against him, forcing Meo to withdraw to reconsider his strategy. Meo recovered, only to find that his opponent had put on a gleaming demonic aura and was deflecting his attacks. Meo was forced to run again, waiting and studying Elite's aura as it deflected his attacks. She leapt at him with both swords ready, when Meo ignited into a field of blue 'Demonic Chakra' and deflected her cuts. Meo lunged at her with his fists, but even still they could not easily wound Elite and the match ended as a draw.

Several rounds passed, with both Meo and his opponent each unable to wound each other, while Sister Pandora demolished each of her foes. Meo was pitted against the demon swordsman Spectreblade. Meo attacked the demon swordsman with full force, but Spectre's fear aura and flashing steel soon proved that to be an ineffective gambit. Meo attacked relentlessly, bouncing back every time Spectre wounded him. Finally, Meo landed a lucky knockout punch, dizzying Spectre. He erupted into his Demonic Chakra, lunging at Spectre with a barrage of attacks, ending in his Tsang Flying Special, beating the powerful swordsman. It was his first and only victory of the tournament.

Meo battled others, including Jet Nitro and Kichi but was unable to achieve a win. Still, his unstoppable record left him in third place.

A sad meeting

After returning from the tournament, Meo brought his third place trophy to Kowasu, but he was in for a shock. He found his master dying, wounded terribly by attacks that came from the mind, the place Kowasu had not trained to protect. Kowasu implored Meo to continue his training and become a true master. Meo decided to go forth into the world and do his best to protect it.

Friends in low places

Meo soon became involved in gang activity, unfortunately. He had little other choice in a place like the Rogue Isles - the best he could hope for was to pit the factions against each other, and his best friend became the Japanese Oni sorceror, Tetsu Koomori and his 'clan' of 'loyal oni warriors' (actually a street gang of thugs and ruffians). Tetsu was surprised to see Meo's Demonic Chakra skill in particular - a skill he had to bargain and barter and plead to gain access to from his Oni masters. Tetsu agreed to help Meo out with his training in exchange for helping his 'brave warriors' accomplish great tasks. And so, Meo did many tasks, including vandalizing Arachnos property and tweaking the noses of Mu Guardians. He became good friends with Tetsu's flamethrowing gang member, Akakuro. In return for his help, Tetsu gave Meo the directions to an ancient ninja ruin, deep in the heart of Japan.

Notes

- Meo is curently on his way to Japan, or is there learning Phase Shift, Gloom, and Dark Blast. If you see him in the Rogue Isles, he's OOC.
