She is younger than she appears. |
Moira is a seemingly normal teenage girl, with a personality and fighting ability that seem well beyond her years. Being a magical construct based on Casval Regelis, she shares many of his qualities and quirks, though her personality is her own. Like Casval, she is someone who will always try to do the right thing, and usually remains silent until she has a good grasp on a situation.

Background
Birth
When Moira awoke in Perez Park, she was disoriented and confused. She didn't know where she was or who she was. But when some passing Hellions saw some easy prey, they got more than they bargained for. Lashing out ferociously, she managed to fight them off until they called in more of their gang to help. Even with their increased numbers, every time they tried to make a move, she made it impossible for them to have their way. When their leader arrived, he saw what was happening, and realized that Moira could present an opportunity to make loads of money. Not only was she young and pretty, but she could also fight like hell. So of course selling her to an infamous underground fighting ring seemed like the smart thing to do.
Fighting
Moira was kept in a cage when she wasn't fighting for her life. The fighters in this "league" were little more than slaves forced to battle each other for the amusement of the morally corrupt rich and powerful. It wasn't unlike the old Roman gladiator days, they even had a hidden underground arena in which to watch these brutal fights.
Moira's weapons were a sword and shield, the two implements with which she felt the most familiar. Though dull and battered, she used these to great effect in her battles, winning fight after fight against even the arena's own champions. She quickly became a favored contender, garnering cheers from the crowd when she won a match.
Between bouts, however, she was relegated to that same cage, and struggled constantly against her captors who wanted to do more than just watch her. Though she was a favorite among the audience, those running the arena saw her as a problem. Not only was she practically unbeatable in the arena, she also proved to be "uncooperative" on her downtime. Scheming to get rid of her in the showiest way possible, they set up a match that pit her against all of their skilled champions in a her-versus-them survival match. Moira was an exceptional fighter, but against these odds even she would be beaten down, and she was.
Rescue
But before the victorious arena champions could land the killing blow, a hero stepped in to save her. Casval Regelis had heard about the illegal fighting ring and searched long and hard to find it in order to put a stop to the mindless violence. As if ordained by fate herself, Casval had arrived in the nick of time to save Moira from death.
As Moira watched, Casval adeptly cut through the so-called champions as though they were mere street thugs. Not only did he easily best them, he did so without dealing a killing blow of his own. She also had a strange feeling as if she knew him, as if she'd always known he'd come for her. When he finished with the last of the fighters and offered her a hand up, she smiled up at him, seeing him as her shining knight, come to rescue his lady.
Together they freed the other captives and arrested the show-runners, putting an end to this particular illegal fighting ring. Afterward, Moira decided to join The Artful Dodgers to remain with Casval and help those like her who were alone and helpless.
Dodger Life
Moira felt a certain pull toward Casval. It wasn't a romantic attraction, and the fact that he had saved her from the slave fighting ring was only part of it. Due to the comparably quieter life of a Dodger, Moira's past began to fill in, and she soon came to realize her true nature. But for the moment, she decided to keep it to herself and continue to watch over Casval and his friends.
Moira helped her fellow Dodgers as best she could, befriending Amanda and Reese Taylor, among others. She also eventually came to know Aidon, another Dodger who had joined after Moira. An excitable bunny-girl, the two became very close despite their differences.
True Identity
As Aidon and Moira grew closer, Moira trusted her enough to tell her the truth. She told Aidon that she was a magical construct, an arcane copy of Casval Regelis created by the Primal Earth Moirae, the goddess of Fate. Moira herself was an aspect of the Moirae from a different dimension who'd followed Casval when he made the journey to Primal Earth in order to watch over him.
But the Primal Moirae didn't appreciate the interference of a competing version, so Moira was forced to strike a deal. Casval wouldn't be wiped from existence if Moira agreed to be forever locked in a physical body. Her lot, the Moirae said, would be the same as Casval's. She would have the same limited powers, would be locked at the same apparent age, and would have all the official Knight training that Casval was taught in his youth. Though their physical appearance differed, for all intents Moira's body was a copy of Casval's.
Moving On
She told Aidon that she would always love Casval like one of her own family, but that her true love was Aidon herself, and that it was time she started living her own life.
When a new school for meta-teens opened in Founders Falls, Moira applied for a position and, surprisingly, was hired on as the school gym and arcane studies teacher. She used the money from her new job to rent an apartment near the school; she and Aidon moved in together shortly thereafter.
Family Matters
When Moira heard of Casval's ailing condition following Chapek Knight's attack on the Dodger base, she was torn. She had to help, but she knew that the possible consequences meant that she'd leave Aidon forever. Still, the entire reason she came to this dimension was to look after Casval, if she didn't do so now, why did she follow him in the first place? Moira knew the spells and rites that needed to be done to transfer her copied energy over to Casval to replace what he'd given to Jack Travers and, reluctantly, the others agreed to help.
But her fears came true, as she lost consciousness following the transfer. Casval's condition which would have caused his death was now happening to Moira. She was put into a magical stasis to slow the progress until a solution could be found. Though she was unaware at the time, Casval had not only regained his health but also his original powers, the magics that his own dimension's Moirae had bestowed to his Order long ago. Casval used these powers in a dangerous ploy to get audience with the Primal Earth Moirae, where he negotiated for Moira's life.
His gamble proved successful, and Moira's energy was restored. Both Casval and Moira had been saved from death.
Powers
Fighting
Moira's fighting skills come from training regimens and lessons that Casval went through during his original training. Though Casval would go on to learn much more after his training was complete, Moira relies on the original lessons as well as some of her own techniques with a shield. She is physically bigger and a little stronger than Casval, but slower overall. She uses a more direct sword style based more on strength than agility, but it is not without finesse. She also relies on a shield to protect her, a style more familiar to her than using nothing at all.
Magic
Like Casval, her magic is limited at best, being unable to manifest overtly offensive or defensive spells.
Vision
She is able to see supernatural things normally hidden from view such as invisible ghosts and demons, magical glyphs and traps, and the life force auras of those around her.
Health
She does not get sick from disease, and she is resistant to many poisons and medicines. This can be both a blessing and a curse; harmful substances don't affect her as much, but the effects of beneficial medicines are also suppressed.
Equipment
Sword
Moira is fond of using a shorter gladius which emphasizes her stronger, more direct style. She keeps it in a hard sheath on her back, attacked to her shield harness. The gladius itself is made of a very strong material, but is otherwise not enchanted or special at all.
Shield
Moira's round shield, however, is enchanted with a spell that makes it nearly indestructible. It appears to be a relic from an ancient arcane warrior; the enchantment glyph can still be seen on the surface despite attempts to wash it off. Though the shield itself is indestructible, that doesn't mean the user herself is. Moira must still use all her strength and skill to use the shield to properly protect herself. When not in use, she keeps it attached to her back via a shield harness, layered over her sword.
Throwing Knives
Though she doesn't use them much, she keeps a modest supply of throwing knives on her person. Like her sword, these are made of strong material but are not special or enchanted.
OOC Info
Moira is a BS/Shield Scrapper. I really wanted to make a BS/Shield when the set came out, and decided that this character would be the best fit for those sets. Her heavy involvement in Casval's plot and backstory was something I'd been thinking about doing since first creating him in CoH. Since she's directly attached to my main, she ended up having a lot of story herself.
Current Status
Moira lives in a Founders Falls apartment with Aidon and continues to teach at a nearby school. On her off time she patrols her neighborhood and still helps The Artful Dodgers from time to time.
