Night-Girl was originally created in October of 2004 as a Silver-Age concept experiment, and out of a desire to play a character that could punch and move without constantly being disabled by her opponents. Her original backstory was a nonsensical mess involving the Circle of Thorns, Mu ancestry, and the Sands of Mu, and she has since had her origin cleaned up to be more simple and elegant (if preposterous).
Her original name was to be Midnight Girl, but this was taken at the time. The name later became free, and is now the name of her Praetorian double.
She is somewhat Batman inspired, obviously so in looks, but not so much in terms of abilities or personality.

Supergroup: Liberty League
Personality
Night-Girl is generally friendly, but wary of people she doesn't yet know, which can come off as aloofness, rudeness, or obliviousness depending on the situation. She prefers small groups of close friends over large groups of acquantances, which is one of the many reasons she feels that the Liberty League is the right place for her. She tries to stay in the shadows and outside of the public's notice, but sometimes this comes in conflict with her desire to be supportive of her friends, many of whom are big players in Paragon City.
She's extremely energetic and impulsive, and thinks that life isn't worth living if you don't take any risks. This energy and outlook tend to lead her to overreact to things, and often cause her to say or do things that she regrets after thinking about them later.
A strong proponent of gender equality, Night-Girl refuses to be used or viewed as nothing more than a sex-object, and may be considered a prude by many of her colleagues, opponents, and the world at large when compared to the typical Paragon heroine. Because of this conviction, she does not wear skimpy or otherwise overly revealing clothing.
Powers
Night-Girl's powers stem from a mystical attachment to the Moon. This gives her a variety of abilities:
Negative Energy Manifestation
Night-Girl possesses the ability to manifest a field of negative energy around her fists, allowing her to disrupt the cohesion of organic, mineral, and synthetic materials. This power stems from her ability to harness energy from the "dark side" of the Moon.
This is clearly magical in nature, as it makes no scientific sense whatsoever.
Accelerated Healing
As the result of her ability to channel mystical energies from the "light side" of the Moon into her own biological system, Night-Girl is capable of sustaining multiple life-threatening wounds, and recovering from them in an extremely short time span.
Accelerated Metabolism
Night-Girl's metabolism and reflexes are also accelerated to the point that she is capable of above-peak-human movement speeds, as well as being highly resistant to fatigue. This ability is also the result of her vast source of energy.
Superhuman Stealth
Due to a combination of her natural training and her ability to draw darkness from the Moon, Night-Girl is capable of rendering herself undetectable by most normal and superhuman beings or surveilance equipment under most conditions.
Abilities
Military-Equivalent Tactics and Combat Training
Night-Girl has been through significant tactical, combat, and physical training in addition to her magical abilities. It is unknown where her training originates from, but is considered to be the equivalent of military special forces training.
Extensive Knowledge of Magical Artifacts and Constructs
Coming from a family with a history of magical ties, Night-Girl was heavily educated in the mystic arts. Much of it bored her, and she has forgotten all but the most basic historical knowledge, with the only exception being information about physical artifacts of magical origin. She likely maintains this interest due to her family's history of mystical attachments to physical objects.
Weaknesses and Limitations
Impulsiveness
Likely due to her increased metabolic rate, Night-Girl finds it hard to stand at rest for very long. She sometimes deals with her extra energy by running in circles, spinning in place at super speed, or crossing her arms and tapping her foot fast enough to make people ask how there could be a woodpecker around when there isn't a tree in sight.
Her less harmless method of dealing with hyperactivity usually involves punching villains in the face before thinking about whether that might not be a good idea.
Vulnerability to Surprise Assaults
Night-Girl's various defensive abilities allow her to survive many things that a normal human would not, but this is because there is little that can affect her over an extended period of time. Quick, coordinated, high-powered strikes all delivered within a short timeframe have been known to overwhelm her.
A giant axe wielded by someone with unholy levels of strength usually does the trick as well.
Character History
The women in Tanya Terrance's family have often had unusual "gifts", though most have been rather mundane in nature. Some have been capable of minor feats of foresight, some capable of reading the past from the touch of an object, and some have been able to converse with other planes. One thing all have had in common is an attachment to an object of great importance to them: perhaps a family heirloom, or a childhood toy. Another is a strong spiritual bond with their direct female relatives-- their mothers and daughters.
Tanya's abilities differ from her ancestors due to the sheer power and size of the object she holds dear, something she has always felt drawn to since she was a child. Her power comes from the Moon.
After learning to harness the mystical energy she drew from the great rock orbiting the Earth, using its darkness to defeat the darkness in men and its light to charge her own body with energy, she donned a cape and mask to join Paragon's finest, as Night-Girl.
In October of 2004, after a short career fighting minor street gangs, Night-Girl met the Weevil, and was asked to join the Liberty League. She accepted, and now considers its members to be like family.
On November 26th, 2007, Night-Girl was tricked into a losing battle against Blackslash, her daughter from the future, and Midnight Girl, her Praetorian double. She survived the confrontation, though Blackslash did not.
Trivia
- Blackslash, an odd, short-spoken hero-turned-villan, claimed to be Night-Girl's daughter from an alternate future timeline where Nemesis has killed the majority of Paragon's heroes, and taken over the world. On October 31st, 2005, she went berserk and stabbed her would-be mother in the abdomen, claiming that the actions she'd taken in this time to prevent that future had eliminated her own birth.
- Night-Girl felt a strong spiritual bond with Blackslash, allowing them to find each other over great distances. The presence of this bond heavily reinforces the idea that Blackslash was her daughter.
