Order Through Strength

This version of the character has since been completely retconned, and this page remains for posterity. See Operative Valos for new details.

Operative Vincent Grant Valos, born December 4, 1982, has sworn into Arachnos as an Operative. He is considered a minor commander of Arachnos. He joined Arachnos over three years ago now. ((Level 50! 4/25/09))

((Read this before you read anything else, especially if you're someone that Valos was formerly associated with. I admit to my pure stupidity during the time I was with the Shadow Spiders. I thought I was a great roleplayer and decently intelligent as well. Well, looking back on this work and all of the people who told me I was RPing wrong, damn, I regret 2008 and early 2009. Sorry to everyone who thought I was a bad roleplayer, most think I've shaped up from then. Valos is still around, he's just much less active compared to my characters like Bronze and Leo. Thanks for taking the time to read this annoying little passage, and enjoy this horrible two-year-old writing that I don't feel like cleaning up.))

((Cleaning this up now, piece by piece, upon invitation to the revived VoPC. Also, retconned his first name to Vincent, because Andros isn't a name and sounds terrible. -RobotoHQ))

Valos' early life

"Ah, childhood. Always makes you feel so warm inside, doesn't it? Well, it's burning up for me."

Vincent was a normal child. He didn't mean for it to go the way it was. He saw himself as someone successful in the future. But then, mayhem suddenly struck. His house burnt down. Ashes and flames was all he saw. Frustration and despair around him... Screams for help and the constant sound of sirens was mixed in with the smell of burning wood and the heat pouring into the room. He was surrounded. Surrounded by psychopaths. The psychopaths? Roaring flames, all around him. That's all they were.

Vincent whimpered and sobbed. He shifted into a balled position and moaned at the overwhelming heat surrounding him. He looked around to see how close the fire was. Not too close, but it was getting closer. Sprouting. Growing. Waiting to devour him.

But he could also see a distant figure. A black figure was all he could make out. It wavily stood in the heart of the flames. It came closer and closer until he could make out the shape.

It was just a person to him until they were inches away from each other. It was Jordan, his brother. Vincent was suddenly incapacitated.

When he woke up, he was somewhere. Somewhere in the middle of the street. Firemen and medical staff, they all surrounded him. They looked like the psychopathic flames that surrounded him earlier. He screamed as if he were still sitting in the very heart of that bedlam. He shivered. He finally knew where he was. He sighed with relief and passed out again.

Arachnos Agency Entry

"Each and every pawn matters in warfare. Any pawn could make a clear checkmate on the enemy."

For the rest of Vincent's life, until 24, he lived out normally again. But not normal in a... normal way. He was living in an orphanage. His father was gone, his mother was dead, and his brother was gone. Once Vincent turned eighteen, he moved out of the orphanage and lived in an apartment with a few low-budget jobs. He had found Paragon City. It wasn't as plentiful with heroes as it is now, but it was sure still the City of Heroes. He did this until he was twenty-four.

But that's when it dawned on him: What happened to Jordan, or Dad? He left Paragon City in pursuit of this question. He set out to the Rogue Isles, the City of Villains. Vincent stared up at the huge buildings of Grandville from the elegant ship he stood on. He unpacked at shore and signed in as a civilian.

But he searched and searched. No sign of Jordan. He figured he might as well stop. But he saw a sign in Port Oakes...

"Opportunity is everything! Join the ranks of the proud. Join the ranks of Arachnos!"

He headed for the WSPDR building to sign up for Arachnos. Sounded good. He'd seen the Arachnos agents on the streets before. He signed up for Arachnos, and has been in Arachnos for three years now.

Abilities/Physical Abilities

"Power... so damn hard to understand. You try to grasp it, but then you just have an endless feed for more... kind of like cigarettes."

Operative Valos is a remarkable marksman and diplomat. He seems to have resolved many conflicts without any physical contact. He is also trained in leadership.

  • Marksmanship -Operative Valos can hit a target from nearly a hundred yards away. He is also a fair sniper. He loves the sound of the gun firing at the imbeciles that think they can take over the Isles, or the goody-two-shoes in Paragon City.
  • Freedomus Abilities* -Listed in the 'Freedomus' section. (WARNING: SPOILER)

Operative Valos would rather solve things peacefully if that's how it goes, but if he has to resort to violence, he gladly will.

Equipment

Operative Valos has several pieces of equipment. He's always loved gadgets and nick-nacks like virtual maps, ranged fire-starters and much more. Operative Valos's Laugh.jpg

Operative Valos is usually seen, in combat or not, in a suit of reactive body armor. This body armor is also psionic-resistant, as proven to Operative Nervosa of the Shadow Spiders. It has been found that he is still unprotected of mental psi but highly resistant to any physical psi (moving him in any physical way without touching him that is channeled through magic, excluding guns, arrows and magical blasts but including something like Gust or Lift.)

He also carries his ER1AAR with him at all times. Even in his sleep this gun is nearby. Along with his deadly ER1AAR is several M1 Pineapple Grenades; a close-range, unnamed, custom-built pistol; and a long-range fire starter, just in case.

Longbow Files on Operative Valos

This section is being worked on.

Operative Valos is quite a dangerous man to many a hero or villain alike. He has defeated everything from tiny, worthless criminal goons to some of those whom people fear so much nobody dare say their name. And, of course, he gets payed while doing it.

Operative Valos/Longbow Surveillance Report

Villains of Paragon City

Operative Valos had moved his operations out of the Isles for the most part and come back to his old friend and mentor from the Shadow Spiders: John Starkweather. He moves back and forth from the Isles to Paragon, and vice-versa. He has also had a change of attire and equipment for Paragon to avoid being named part of Arachnos by the heroes residing down in Paragon. However, John was killed in a bloody battle with another good friend of his from the group, MSGT Morris. The VoPC was thrown into a state of chaos and the facade it had hidden behind was spread into a real organization. However, the few villains left in the web of lies hiding as heroes in Paragon decided to form a guerrilla strike force and rose up against Project White Melody, John's replacement. His attempt to slay Project White Melody was foiled by Grimaulkin and Mindstryker, however his allies were left alone or imprisoned. Valos was thought to be dead, but showed that he was well alive and accounted for, with the help of Raina Sylvir, after lying low for a long period of time. The Villains had generally disbanded, until early August 2012, when they'd sprung up once more.

Operative Valos, invited to the group, has now made an unexpected return to the Isles.

The Freedomus Facade

"Valos, you aren't immortal."

"I'm getting there." -Valos during interrogation by Raina Sylvir

On October 16, 2009, Operative Valos took up a cape, a slightly altered arsenal, a new set of apparel and some very new powers. This was only two days after his alleged death by Mindstryker and Grimaulkin. Valos earned abilities including limited super strength, the ability to sprint up walls/steep cliffs, enhanced hearing, minor resistance to physical and mental attacks and an odd new ability to (on occasion) be given important warning signs during dreams or in random moments (in which he passes out on to the floor). This is essentially the ability to look into the future, but not a controlled ability.

Arachnos Espionage Division and Praetorian John Starkweather

In either late August or early October, Operative Valos had signed on to the Arachnos Espionage Division because of his vast experience with the black arts of deception, stealth, sabotage and generally everything else on the topic of espionage. During this time, Valos has met the Praetorian mirror of his old ally, John Starkweather. Valos had lain low ever since the Villains of Paragon City were shattered.

Mother Russia

Valos is currently living somewhere in Russia in work for Arachnos. He is allegedly gathering information regarding nuclear warheads, but this is unconfirmed. It is very unlikely that he will return to the Isles any time soon.

IC Comments

"*The ever lovely One Finger Salute.*" -Operative Griffin

"*Who?*" -Dr. Von Havencrabs

"*...Valos? Hahahaha...he's like, I dunno, like a small dog with n' teeth that keeps barkin' at y' an' gnawin' at your heels, like it'll fuckin' do somethin'.*" -Sgt. Maris

"*Valos, point a gun at me again and you'd better pull the damn trigger.*" - Raina Sylvir

"*He's like a rabid wolf with a tactical nuke strapped to it. We killed him once. I kind of think I'd like to do that again.*" -Mindstryker

"*At first I thought he was a little crazy, but then I started to see there was some real genius at work there... In the end, it just turned out that he was ‘allot’ crazy.*" -Rusty

Affiliations

Friends

Arbiter Death

His former mentor, who set his path of conquest in a new direction. If it weren't for him, he'd have never formed the Bedlam Spiders, nor met the greater allies whom he has come across. Ceased contact.

Darkress

He assisted her when she was pregnant, and found her a very nice woman, as well as an ally amongst the Villains of Paragon. Ceased contact.

Raina Sylvir

She has helped Valos through injuries, knockouts, problems and even death numerous times, as well as a fellow ally within the VoPC/part of Valos's strike force against Project White Melody. Although contact has generally been ceased, Raina is becoming more and more infuriated with Valos, whereas Valos finds her anger laughable.

Grimaulkin

Grimaulkin had once fought the not-so-good fight against Valos's resistance regime. After a long chase through the catacombs of the Villains' base, he had assumed Valos was killed. Recently, Vincent and Grimaulkin ran into each other on the streets of St. Martial and fought alongside one another to defeat Longbow. Grimaulkin also has an awkward attachment to Vincent, but this could be the norm for anyone with Grim.

Enemies

Bad Dream

The only man Valos is afraid of. He wants to skin his face and put it on display. However, recent tensions with Bad Dream have shown that Valos is willing to stand up for himself, even if it means he's staring death in the eyes. Valos has, because of this, learned to stay as low as he can. Generally ceased contact, but future encounters can change this.

Dr. Von Havencrabs

Crabs is one of his biggest rivals in the entire world. Their rivalry sparked when Valos refused to take his physical because of Havencrabs' manner of speech at the time. From then on, Havencrabs looked down on Valos as the runt of the litter. Maybe he was right. Maybe not.

Operative Shadon

His former comrade and lieutenant. He trusted Shadon to put the Bedlam Spiders in a new direction, but then turned his back on Valos and joined his enemies with the Shadow Spiders. Valos has ceased contact with Shadon since.

Project White Melody

Melody is the cousin of John Starkweather and member of Hero Corps. She was assigned to her cousin's supergroup to monitor and ensure the members of it stay stable (it is funded by Hero Corps). Valos, however, thought she was going mad with power, thus attempting to overthrow her. Melody assigned Grimaulkin and Mindstryker to assault Valos in his final hour, which they did, driving Valos underground (which was originally going to serve as an escape route) and mutilating his stomach with a grenade. Ceased contact.

Trivia

  • He is extremely claustrophobic, and because of this has a fear of jails and tightly-packed areas.
  • If Valos orders pizza, first of all it means he's probably in a good mood, and second of all it means you'll find stacks and stacks of pizza boxes on top of something.
  • Valos has a closet full of empty pizza boxes somewhere in his apartment.
  • Rarely does Valos sleep, for he is very 'into his job'.
  • It is possible that Valos's great-uncle is 'The Weaver', whom Lord Recluse took Arachnos from.
  • Valos has a unique kind of personality. Instead of basing him a lot like one specific villain, he is more of a 'bits and pieces' kind of character, meaning I ripped details of other popular characters and threw them together and out came Valos. Originally, Valos was much simpler and had less of a concept to him: he was just an Arachnos operative who liked following the Arbiters around and annoying them. Over time, he has shown leadership and quite a lot of other attributes.
  • Valos commonly makes chess refrences (ie, "I have used my knight too early in this battle.").
  • If you are to put my main hero, Talus Nightmare's name and Valos's name together, you will get Talos (Talos Island anyone?).
  • He sometimes works for hours, tinkering with guns, his suit, gadgets... and several other bits and parts of his equipment without noticing the time. He has once worked for over a day without getting tired.
  • Valos's Praetorian is the Resistance spy Thor Warstorm.
