Obscured Origin
There is almost nothing known of David's past prior to arriving in Sheridan, Wyoming due to an interesting case of amnesia.
Bits and Pieces
Among David's amnesia, he has certain 'broken memories' which have not yet been validated as to whether they are valid memories or not. The data that has been collected thus far from David's submissions on what he has experienced through dreams or through 'flashes' as he calls them is as follows: He had a family which included parents and siblings, he previously utilized his telekinetic abilities at a very basic level when he still lived with the family, and he later spent an unmeasurable amount of time in some type of lab being tortured, and possibly exploited due to his abilities. Not knowing his birthplace, parents name, his own last name, and other crucial information, it will make it impossible to track down any possible relatives.
Arrival in Sheridan, Wyoming
At the age of 19, David recalls waking up in a small forest near the city of Sheridan, wearing only his underwear, covered in cuts and bruises, and rather dazed. Unaware of how he arrived there, David emerged from the forest and wandered into a local neighborhood, still in state of confusion. He was soon arrested by the local authorities for public indecency. After his health was evaluated, he was sent to a medical facility to be treated before getting processed by the police department. It was soon discovered that he suffered from amnesia and had no family or friends anywhere in the area. After evaluating the situation, David was released and given something to wear (old, ragged clothes from salvation army.). He was then taken to a local shelter for the homeless, which he lived in for a month until the shelter was shut down. During that time, David had not been able to get a job due to his 'homeless' situation. At this point, David found himself living on the street and doing what he could to get by.
Discovery
Eventually, David unlocked (perhaps for the second time?) his power of telekinesis. With practice, David was able to sneak off with free food to fill his stomach and live a little easier. Soon though, David, after bearing witness to so much crime in the alleyways he lived in, he soon began to use his powers to help others. Unfortunately, this effort was in vain as the people he saved feared his power to such an extent that many would only call him names like, "mutant" or "freak", and just run off. David began to tire of helping those who did not appreciate him, and over time, he began to not care for those who needed help at all. In fact, David soon discovered that he was not the only mutant, and that the general populous despised them. There were very very few fellow mutants that David encountered, due to their life of secrecy to keep them safe from the intolerance of 'normal people'. There were even 'hate groups' who got away with many horrendous crimes done against mutants.
The Joys of Love
One day, a woman ran passed David as he sat slumped in his usual alleyway. The woman was being chased by a man with a knife. David was about to pretend like nothing was going on as usual, but as the woman's left heel of her shoe broke and she fell from losing her balance, David began to reconsider as he watched the man stand over the woman with a look of satisfaction on his face. There was something about this frail, white, blond-haired girl that intrigued David. Fate perhaps? Regardless, David stood up and dispatched the criminal with a quick jolt of telekinesis slamming him against the wall and knocking him unconscious. As David waited for the woman to freak out over what transpired, he was surprised to hear the woman actually thank him as she made her way to her feet. The woman's name was Julie Winters, and she was a social worker for the city. Julie was kind enough to repay David's heroic action, as she helped David find a respectable job and live in her apartment until he could afford his own. It was not like he was anything that special, as she regularly tried to help get homeless off the street. But, as time went on, the two became closer and closer. Overtime, David learned that not all humans despised mutants, and Julie learned that it was possible to find love in the least likely of places.
Trying to Make it in the World
After David had arrived in Sheridan, he had went under the name of 'David' not because he knew this to be his name for certain, but since it was the only name that continued to pop up in his head. It was this name that he established himself under as he worked for a construction company with the help of Julie. David was now able to afford his own clothes, and an apartment that many would not be proud of, but an apartment none the less. Although he could use his powers of telekinesis to make his job easier, he prefered not to for fear of being fired. When he did use his power at work, he did it in the most subtle way possible utilizing his ability to augment his strength and endurance. He could even make certain objects seem lighter under the support of his telekinesis to ease the workload without raising suspicion. David also worked hard at improving his own physical performance by working out constantly so that he did not always have to rely on his 'powers' to defend himself.
The Joys of Friendship
Once in awhile, when David witnessed a crime, he would do what he could to help without allowing too many people to know of his abilities. In one instance, David found himself outnumbered by the hate group known as 'Purity' who had been harassing a mutant who was a black bald man named Darrius. David was able to subdue a few with his technique of using his telekinesis to effect the brain in a way where the person would be in a state of confusion temporarily, but it was not quite enough. In the end, it was Darrius who saved David as he grabbed ahold of him and teleported them both to safety. Overtime, David and Darrius became close friends. David learned that Darrius was much more active in the role of helping those in need, despite of their view of mutants. He had lost both his wife and child in a car accident, and since then, he has had nothing to live for other than to make the city he grew up in, a better place. David learned much from Darrius and in turn, became more active in helping those who were in need. They would constantly team up and try to show people that there were mutants who wanted to live in peaceful coexistence with humans. It was Darrius who gave David his current alias known as 'Rubix'. Darrius had compared David's head to that of a rubix cube, due to his fragmented memories and amnesia. As time went on, many others began calling him Rubix as well.
The Heartaches of Love
When David was 22, a viscous attack was attempted by the 'Purity' group, and ended up involving Julie. She almost died in the streets after being gunned down had it not been for David's discovery (possibly rediscovery?) of his ability to manipulate potential energy. He somehow drained the energy of the hate mongers in the vicinity and transferred it to Julie on instinct in his grief ridden state. With the attackers weakened, they were not able to pursue David as he carried Julie to the hospital. Unfortunately, the doctors were not able to save her, and David was not able to replicate what he had done before-hand. This was a very difficult time for David and much hatred grew in his heart, as did his distrust in humans.
A Haunting Past
As time continued on, David's so-called 'flashes' increased. First he would experience the quick onset of a migraine which would incapacitate him, at which point a quick memory (so to speak) or series of unorganized memories would 'flash' before his eyes. Once it was done, usually varying from 5 seconds up to 30 seconds, the migraine would subside, and David would regain his composure. Most of the time, he wouldn't be able to recall the images and sounds he experienced, although, 'flashes' that repeated one short consistent bit of his memory over and over would eventually be remembered to some degree. The 'flashes' started to occur once every couple of months, but slowly increased to once every week to two weeks. Another method of memory recall that David would endure occurred through his dreams. These memories were even harder for him to understand, but easier to remember.
The Heartaches of Friendship
It was originally suggested by Darrius that David should travel to Paragon City to not only get away from all the hatred toward mutants, but in hopes to find a cure to his amnesia. Originally, David had not worried as much about his amnesia while Julie was alive, as his love for her was the greatest distraction of all, but now that she was gone, it was all he usually thought about. When David asked Darrius if he would leave with him, Darrius explained that the city he grew up in meant too much to him to be able to just pack up and leave. Darrius was dedicated to his home, and so David stubbornly remained where he was, with no plans to leave. One day, however, a group of the 'Purity' were able to sneak up on Darrius while he was sleeping in his most recent apartment (he had tendency to change apartments frequently because of his enemies). As luck would have it, the manager of this particular apartment complex was a member of the 'Purity' who had recognized Darrius, without Darrius being aware. This inevitably led to his brutal stabbing while he slept in his own bed. Upon learning of his death, David was once again inconsolable while his anger and distrust grew even stronger. By this time, David had just turned 24.
Moving On
With nothing or nobody keeping David in Sheridan for any reason, he decided to finally leave. Selling what little furniture he had, he took with him all the money he had and a suitcase of the bare essentials. The only things David had to remember Julie and Darrius by were the promise ring from Julie that he wore around his neck, and a red hat that Darrius had given him.
Arrival in Paragon City
A much different lifestyle awaited David in Paragon City, as he was aware of their need for people with unique abilities to fight against the massive waves of crime which occurred after the death of many of their greatest heroes. Of course, this call for help was originally made a few years back and by now many people have filled the shoes of those great heroes, however, crime still ran rampant as new criminals continued to relentlessly commit multiple crimes. It was a constant battle between the proverbial 'good and evil'. As shaken as his trust was in humans, David was still dedicated to doing what he could to protect innocent people (mainly to honor Darrius).
Getting Adjusted
After David registered his information with G.I.F.T at City Hall in Atlas Park, he was set up with a job and a place to live. It was all the city could do for prospective heroes at this point as there were so many, the city would not be able to afford to pay them for their heroics. Being a 'hero' in Paragon City seemed to be more of a 'volunteer with perks' type setup, at least, this was how David portrayed it. He ended up with an apartment in Atlas Park, and a job as a custodian at the Steel Canyon University. It wasn't glamorous, but it paid the bills. As David performed assignments for G.I.F.T., he inevitably met other important individuals who were committed to putting an end to their own local group of crime. Most of these individuals worked under the local law enforcement agencies, or were other 'unpaid mercenaries' such as himself. After going on numerous low-scale missions, David quickly discovered that the criminals in the city were stronger, faster, smarter, and better and every way to the ones he had encountered outside of the city, prior to arriving. David's basic skills of telekinesis and potential energy manipulation were in dire need of being trained to be more efficient, and that is exactly what he did.
Searching for Answers
After working at the Steel Canyon University for a short while, David eventually enrolled as a student in hopes of discovering a way to enhance himself to a point where he would be able to cure his amnesia. While this failed to bear fruit, his duration as a student and reasons for such caught the attention of one of the professors who taught there. Her name was Ruth Chandler. She studied David, and as she worked hard to develop a new enhancement for the mind which could cure amnesia, she had David participate in different tests. Her motivation was to be the first to create, what would surely be, a well sought after enhancement for multiple individuals. Unfortunately, a few months later, with no progress being made, David began to grow impatient and frustrated. David hoped that he would eventually find someone with the technology and ingenuity to fix his 'broken' mind.
The Zenvious Foundation
Exhausting every known means of finding a cure to his amnesia, David was about to give up hope, until he heard of the Zenvious Foundation and its amazing breakthroughs in the fusion of technology and magic. After searching for a way to contact the Foundation, it ended up being Mr. Zen Kajii, the leader of the Foundation, who found David at the Steel Canyon University. After a quick dialogue, David was led to their base where he continued his interview with Mr. Zen. Through their conversation, David learned that in order to be a part of the Foundation, he would have to be willing to use his abilities to help further their mission of helping to make the world a better place. David knew that this was the type of organization that Darrius would have been apart of had he still been alive. In hopes of eventually finding a cure to his amnesia, and to honor the memory of his old friend, David joined the Foundation.
Life in Paragon City
It hasn't been easy for him, but David has found his niche in Paragon.
Discovery of Culture
On his off time in his apartment in Atlas Park, David discovered that he had a knack for painting. However, he never used paint brushes on a canvas; rather, he would use his microscale telekinesis to manipulate the paint onto the canvas. After this discovery, it became a common hobby for David, as it brought him peace of mind, keeping his thoughts off of all the things weighing his life down with stress.
One day, his landlord noticed the paintings in his apartment. The landlord, in turn, told a friend about the paintings who came to see them for himself. Before David knew it, there was a local buzz going around about his paintings. After selling his paintings to a few locals, David realized that he didn't need to work as a janitor at the Steel Canyon University any longer, as he was also getting a small salary from the Foundation to pay for basic needs.
A New Look
Due to the complications that his powers brought him, G.I.F.T. in association with Icon, produced an outfit that would solve all of those complications. David has never been a fan of 'hero' costumes, but despite his protests, it was the only reasonable way to solve his problems.
The material of the spandex pants and shirt had nanotechnology which helped to reduce the friction caused by the quick movements of super speed which would occur during Rubix's manipulation of potential energy. The material was also very light but durable, and added a defensive measure against small attacks. The boots were made of a similar material and could also handle the stress of super speed.
The gloves were designed to handle the exhaust of raw kinetic energy. This would happen as David's potential energy gathered to such a point that the conversion into kinetic energy was more than needed and would 'leak' out through the path of least resistance, which happened to be his hands. This raw kinetic energy would not cause actual damage, but would create intense pain that made it feel as though David's hands were on fire. The gloves solved this problem by 'filtering' it through his hands in a way that did not effect his nervous system, which created that sensation of pain.
The mask was created with nanotechnology that interacted with David's mind and simply 'enhanced' his abilities. The mask also enabled David to not only be stronger in his powers but allowed him to utilize his powers with more control.
Solving the Cube
After e-mailing the Medical Department of the Zenvious Foundation about his amnesia-issue, David was contacted by Tempest Fist (also known as Laurette, the mental health specialist of the Zenvious Foundation) and Wynter Maiden (more commonly known as Daria St.Claire ). With Tempest Fist's knowledge of the mind, and Wynter Maiden's ability to traverse mindscapes (The landscape/astral plane within one's own mind.) they decided to work together to help David cure his amnesia. Over time, they would endure numerous sessions inside David's mindscape to attempt to 'unlock' his memories. This was an extremely dangerous venture, but by this point, David was willing to try anything.
Powers
Microscale Telekinesis
This is David's most controlled ability. It involves the 'needle and thread' use of telekinesis. Strength is not a factor of microscale telekinesis, while control and precision is a major factor. Controlling small objects is merely scratching the surface. The TK energy itself can be used to make precise cuts on physical objects. A more skilled user of this ability would be able stimulate other human's brain in a number of ways, be it to create confusion, make the body tired, or even erase memories. An extremely skilled user of this ability would be able to effect the part of the brain which controls a mutant's ability, which could be used to temporarily (or maybe even permanently) disable the mutant's power. The applications are numerous. At the highest level of skill, a mutant would be able to even control the molecules in the air, speeding them up to create fire, or slowing them down to freeze. Out of five levels of mutant control, which does not classify actual ability but only 'potential' ability, David is classified to have a level four (LVL4) ability in this area.
Macroscale Telekinesis
David is not quite as skilled in this ability as he is with Micro-TK. Macro-TK is where strength is the main factor. Controlling large objects is the basics of this ability. Macro-TK can not only be utilized to carry large objects but the TK energy can be utilized as a blunt weapon. With someone skilled enough in this ability, they could potential use the TK energy to simulate a bomb exploding. Such massive amounts of TK energy could level cities, but it would take a very skilled mutant. On a more basic application, it could also be used to carry the user him or herself. With enough practice, one would be able to fly. The TK energy could also be used to apply pressure, creating implosions. David is classified to have a level two (LVL2) ability in this area.
Potential Energy Manipulation
David is somewhat skilled in this ability. Potential Energy Manipulation involves (but is not limited to) dampening, enhancing, transferring, and absorbing the energy that has the potential to action. This could involve numerous applications. A mutant could potentially become faster, stronger, more intelligent, while making the other person who's energy was absorbed, slower, weaker, and less intelligent. This could involve numerous individuals' energy absorbed into one or a single individual's energy dispersed and absorbed into many. This could not only effect animate objects but also inanimate objects as long as it contained potential energy. A very skilled user would be able to absorb the potential energy from something such as a wheel at the top of a hill and manipulate the energy into something usable for the user, such as increased strength. Of course, this calls to reason that the manipulation of potential energy is inevitably transferred into kinetic energy. Although, it should not be confused with the ability of Kinetic Energy Manipulation, which involves kinetic energy to immediately react without any conditions to be met. Manipulating potential energy creates kinetic possibility. The mutant does not have a direct control over the kinetic, but rather, indirect control by effecting the potential. David is classified to have a level three (LVL3) ability in this area.

Crey
After the memory of David’s time in the AoH lab had been revealed to himself, David encountered the Crey and discovered many of the deceitful experiments they got away with while appearing to be a great asset to Paragon City. The Crey’s schemes reminded David so much of his horrid time with the AoH, that he made it his own personal mission to expose the Crey for who they really were.
Friends/Teammates
ZF Members
Wynter Maiden
She is more commonly known as Daria St.Claire. David met her after getting 'beat' up in the 'psionic sense' in the Hazard Room of the ZF(Zenvious Foundation) base. She had healed his wounds then, and later she played a very important part in helping to 'heal' his mind, to effectively cure his amnesia. She has an ability to travel her own 'mindscape' and the 'mindscape' of others, which was used in the process of ridding David of his amnesia.
Tempest Fist
She is also known as Laurette Merle. David met her while on missions with other ZF members. She quickly became much more important to his life when she offered her services as a medical expert in the field of mental health. It was both her and Daria who assisted David in his 'mindscape sessions'.
Dynamo Flash
So far, David's experiences with the Dynamo Flash has been restricted to running numerous Foundation missions together. It was the Dynamo Flash who had nicknamed David 'Bix', and so David gave him his own nickname, calling him 'Tinman'.
Trivia
- The red hat that he wears was given to him by Darrius before he had died.
- He always wears a promise ring from Julie ,before she was killed, on a chain around his neck.
- His name 'Rubix' was given to him by Darrius.
- He started smoking cigarettes after Julie Winters died.
- He ironically believes that superheroes that wear spandex are ridiculous looking.
- He enjoys flying in Ouroboros.
- He nicknamed Dynamo Flash the 'Tinman'.
- He forgets to shave often, and is usually seen with a 'five 'o clock shadow'.
- Ever since he regained his health after living on the streets of Sheridan, Wyoming, David became very active in working out hard and keeping his body strong. He doesn't believe in always relying on his telekinesis to help him with physically demanding activities, when he could just use his own physical abilities.
- He has a silver butane lighter with a 'C' emblam engraved on it. He got it from a Crey agent he had helped put to justice. The lighter helps to remind him that the Crey is always out there to be dealt with.
