Billy Sapphire, also known as the Sapphire Saber, is one of the Six of Diamonds; a team of Heroes from another dimension. Billy and the other Diamonds joined a large group of Heroes from their home dimension to pursue a group of runaway Villains from their dimension who have fled and are now in hiding in our dimension.

History
After the Alpha Asteroids crashed in the Nevada Desert, a secret project formed by the top scientific minds in the country was formed to study their strange properties. Officially the Alpha Asteroids were explained to the public as rogue comets from the Asteroid Belt and contined large amounts of Iron with trace amounts of Gold. In truth the Asteroids were comprised almost entirely of a then unknown element completely alien to Earth. The team of scientists assigned to study the asteroids dubbed it the 'Alpha Alloy' and began to study it's properties.
The Alpha Alloy proved to be the X Factor that gave rise to the Dawn of the Metahuman as the Alloy proved to have radical properties and capabilities depending on how it was used. Several smaller teams formed from the initial Alpha Project to learn how to use the Alloy's power for a greater good. These projects included Gene Manipulation, Elemental Control, Atomic Maniuplation and Time Displacement among other more radical ideas. Tradgedy struck the Project after the core group of researchers decided together the Alloy was too dangerous and their superiors wanted it for darker purposes. Staging an 'accident', they forced the public shutdown, dissasemblement, and Congressional inquiry of the Project where it's founders were found guilty of various crimes against the State, the World and against Humanity.
The Alpha Alloy's powers did not end with the Project's shutdown, as many of the experiments lived on and would in time give rise to the first Metahuman Heroes and the so-called 'Dawn of the Metahuman'. In addition, many of the research staff escaped punishment for their crimes and continued their work in secret. One such researcher was Dr. Bishop. Right hand man to Dr. Alloy; founder and orchestrator of the Alpha Project and the man most responsible for the many dark intentions meant for it's power, Bishop went into hiding after Dr. Alloy was sent to prison.
Dr. Bishop spent several years continuing to study the Alpha Alloy and by accidental exposure under the right conditions gifted himself with the ability to Manipulate Energy in various forms. He wanted to replicate the experiment, but using the research done by Dr. Armstrong's Gene Manipulation team, Dr. Bishop learned he was one of only a handful of individuals with the correct DNA and body chemistry to allow for such purposeful mutation. While he could not openly search for test subjects in the modern world, news reached him of his former collegue Dr. Ashford's work on continuing his Time Displacement research. Asford had succeeding in building his Time Displacement Generator which allowed one to travel backward or forward through time. Partnering together, Bishop and Ashford spent years traveling across time and across the country searching for individuals who's unique DNA sequencing would allow them to artificially imbue them with Metahuman Abilities from controlled exposure to the Alpha Alloy.
Origin
Growing up on the streets of Chicago during the Great Depression of the 1930s, William Benjamin Clayton or Billy as his family fondly called him, grew up around crime, violence and poverty, his parents worked day and night to try and make enough to send him and his sister Mary to school. His humble begins begat a Heroic destiny he could not yet realize. Traveling across time to search for candidates to use in his research, Dr. Bishop was able to identify Billy and learned he was a complete match for the experiments he wished to conduct. However, Bishop had learned from a previous mistake during his travels through time, and had to ensure taking Billy from his native time period would not affect temporal history in a recordable way. Studying his history through what few records were available in the modern era, Bishop learned Billy was fated to die in a blazing inferno while his family watched their home burn to the ground not knowing Billy had run in to rescue an old woman trapped on the second floor.
With his protective Energy Fields generated from his Metahuman Ability garnered through his exposure to the Alpha Alloy, Dr. Bishop waited in the inferno for Billy to appear. Before he could realize the old woman was already dead, he was captured by Bishop and brought to one of Bishop's Temporal Safehouses to begin experimentation. Billy joined several others kidnapped from across time and the world. Years passed by as Billy remained in cryo in between Bishop's experiments. Dr. Bishop did not count on the power his experiments would possess, as they were able to awaken and escape their captor in the modern era.
Awakening in a cold dark laboratory, Billy was full of fear, until he found the other 5 test subjects Bishop had captured. Unaware of what powers they possessed, they were discovered by security and were forced to use their newly learned abilities to escape. The laboratory was destroyed and burned to the ground on the 6 o'Clock news in New York City. The International Bureau of Metahuman Affairs, the global law enforcement agency dedicated to the identification and protection of benevolent Metahumans sent teams to locate the escaped Metahumans before they could accidentally bring harm to the public with their abilities.
Learning the truth behind the origins of the 6 Metahumans, Chief Juno, director of the I.B.M.A. called the country's best Heroes to help protect and train the new group of Heroes. In time and with extensive training, the 6 Metahumans from across time were trained into what became the world's first permanent Metahuman Team of Heroes; the Six of Diamonds were born.
Led by the Desert Storm Veteran known as the Ruby Ray, Billy and the other Diamonds became the first response team for disasters the world over from natural disasters to the 'birth' of powerful Imperfects - Humans affected by the First and Second Alpha Falls who develop immense power and who subsequently lose control of their powers shortly after their first appearance.
The Six of Diamonds are more than a permanent team of Metahuman Heroes; in many ways they are a mismatched family of friends from across time. With their headquarters in New York City and with several private sponsors, the Six of Diamonds have had missions the world over. After the late Dr. Ashford's Time Displacement Generator technology was stolen by a team of Villains and modified to allow for travel to parallel dimensions, the Six of Diamonds were immediately mobilized to pursue the fugitive Villains to prevent their bringing harm to other worlds. Arriving in Paragon City along side the 'Alpha Group' of Heroes from their native dimension, the Six of Diamonds set out to locate the fugitive Villains before they could share their forbidden knowledge of the Alpha Alloy with the willing and well equipped Villain groups of Primal Earth who could use that power for more than any of the Alpha Project's founders could ever imagine even in their darkest nightmares.
Using the Metahuman Identification System used on Primal Earth where Paragon City is located, the Six of Diamonds' Team Roster is as follows;
The Ruby Ray - Team Leader and Controller with the ability to Control Minds and Manipulate Kinetic Energy allowing her to Fly.
The Ultralite Goliath - Frontline Tanker with Superhuman Strength and Invulnerability to Physical Damage, his Strength allows for long continuous Jumps over a large distance.
The Emerald Archer - Fire Support Blaster with expertise in Archery and several Devices to gain strategic advantage in combat such as his Teleportation matrix.
The Garnet Gadget - Fire Support Blaster with Electric Energy Manipulation and Projection along with a more diverse array of Devices to use in Combat.
The Azalea Ether - Field Medic Defender with Energy Manipulation and Projection ability which she uses to channel powerful bolts of Energy to form offense attacks and form protective Fields of Energy to protect her Allies.
The Sapphire Saber - Frontline Scrapper for the team with expertise in the use of a Katana and other bladed weapons. He is able to manipulate energy on a very primal level, allowing him superhuman Regeneration and Cardiovascular Recovery, Superhuman Speed, and limited ability to channel this energy directly as an attack. The Garnet Gadget designed an energy blade that is able to tap into his body's natural energy eminations and channel it into a katana shaped blade that glows with a distinctive color which gave him the color code of 'Sapphire'.
Dimensional Travel
The Alpha Group of Heroes from Billy's home dimension have been on their mission to pursue the fugitive Villains for what would could be measured as years from a temporal standpoint. However, several factors contribute to their lack of aging, from the interference of dimensional energies reflecting their Alpha derived powers, to the simple fact that several members of the Alpha Group have abilities that resist the effects of aging. In Billy's case, his Healing Factor prevents the aging process entirely. He has undertaken more missions than any of the Alpha Group, and at times has been trapped in time and space for years at a time, but never shows his years or experience due to his boyish looks and innocent nature. However, Billy never forgets the people and places he leaves behind, and this fuels his drive to complete his mission and locate the last fugitive Villains so that he may soon return home to where and when he belongs.
Abilities in Paragon City
Like the rest of the code named Alpha Group, Billy lost most of his powers upon arrival to Primal Earth. The science officer of the group, the Garnet Gadget, hypothesizes that the diverse nature of powers available to Metahumans in Primal Earth coupled with energies by time travel due to Ouroboros, dimensional connections to the Rikti Earth and the many other worlds through Portal Corp affected their powers upon arrival as they adjusted to the dimensional energies of this world. Like most of the Alpha Group, Billy understands the theory even less than those outside the Alpha Group. As far as he knows, regaining his powers will take time. Meanwhile while most of his powers have been returning, most have not returned to their original strength, most notably his healing factor, superhuman speed and energy projection.
His powers in his home are rapidly becoming a distant memory to Billy as he adjusts to what his powers are in this dimension. In this dimension, Billy is classified as a Scrapper with Katana as his Primary Powerset and Regeneration as his Secondary Powerset. His healing factor is severly limited compared to what he was capable of surviving in his home dimension, and his energy projection ability is drastically limited and while he is still able to use the energy collection saber built by Garnet Gadget to generate a blade of pure energy his only other energy projection power is his Energy Torrent power which he uses to great effect. His superspeed in this dimension is only a shadow of what it was back home, but he has learned how to adjust to it. The only abilities to not diminish are his sword fighting skills which have not dulled in the slightest during the dimensional transit.
Field Work
Billy is the most active of the Six of Diamonds, having ventured to Cimerora, been seen on Striga Island and having completed several tours of duty throughout Bloody Bay, Siren's Call, Warburg, Recluse's Victory and most recently the Rikti War Zone. Billy has undertaken Task Forces and Trials across Paragon City and enjoys the experience of teaming with the same Heroes for prolonged periods of time. Billy is rarely seen in action alongside the other members of the Alpha Group. The other Group members spend most of their time following leads on the fugitive Villains that would warrant a full mobilization of the Alpha Group. A few of the more scientific members spend their time trying to understand why their powers have been affected so drastically by the Dimensional Transference and search for ways to reverse it. Billy is a man of action and has been constantly seeking evil to fight in Paragon City.
Known Associates
During his time he has been seen frequently with a few Heroes, in particular the Mutant Defender known as Miss France. Officially she has the ability of Radiation Control, Projection and Manipulation, but Billy has been known several times to refer to her as "the Best Radiation Therapist in Paragon City" as she often acts as his support during their encounters with some of the more powerful and dangerous Villains such as Lord Recluse and the Crystal Titan. The two are very close, and have been reportedly seen working together by numerous Heroes on everything from a Statesman Task Force to an Abandoned Sewers Trial. Task Force Commander
Billy is almost always seen gathering a team of like minded Heroes into a Force to undertake Tasks from the city's most distinguished Heroes such as Statesman and The Lady Grey. He can be seen working with civilians as well such as Dr. Kahn of Portal Corp, magical beings such as Katie Hannon of the Cabal, a Council spy known as Ernesto Hess, and even from dimensional beings such as Faathim the Kind. Billy has also undertaken Trials to protect the Terra Volta Reactor on several occasions and has ventured deep below the city leading teams of Heroes against the menace of the Hydra and to rescue his fellow Heroes who have been trapped by the Devouring Earth and are at the mercy of the dreaded Crystal Titan. His willingness to jump into any disaster leading a team of like minded Heroes against any threat has earned him the title of Task Force Commander, a title he proudly wears wherever he goes.
Costumes
One of Billy's favorite things about Primal Earth is Icon and the many services in the field of Hero costumes they provide. His collection of costumes includes:
01 - 'Classic' - His iconic costume from his home dimsnsion. Billy rarely dons this costume anymore.
02 - Pilgrim - Based off the attire worn by the Hero of a video game inspired graphic novel series.
03 - Jedi Knight - An avid sci-fi fan, Billy fashioned himself a Jedi Knight costume. This is considered his iconic look in Paragon City as he is most frequently seen wearing it.
04 - Vanguard Armor - Due to his extensive field work within the Rikti War Zone, Billy was issued a full set of Impervium Armor to use in Anti-Rikti or Anti-Hydra operations, or when Billy is in the mood to wear it.
05 - Roman Centurion Armor - His adventures in the ancient land of Cimerora gifted Billy with a one of a kind and custom forged suit of armor worn by the Roman Centurions. Billy can be seen wearing it when adventuring in Cimerora or when the mood strikes him to look a little more 'rugged and awesome'.

As of April 20, 2010, his list of defeated Archvillains includes: Dr. Vahzilok, The Clockwork King, Clamor, Arakhn, Archon Burkholder, Vandal, Hopkins, Jurassik, Requiem, Nosferatu, Romulus Augustus, The Reichsman, Countess Crey, Nemesis, Vanessa DeVore, Gryfalcon, Hro'Dtohz, The Honoree, Battle Maiden, Black Swan, Bobcat, Chimera, Diabolique, Dominatrix, Infernal, Malaise, Neuron, Nightstar, Siege, Shadowhunter, Marauder, Mother Mayhem, Tyrant, Ruladak the Strong, Lanaru the Mad, the Thorn Tree, Arbiter Sands, Wretch, Barracuda, Ice Mistral, Silver Mantis, Dr. Aeon, Regent Korol, Magus Mu'Drakhan, Shadow Spider, Viridian, Black Scorpion, Captain Mako, Scirocco, Black Widow, and Lord Recluse.
In addition to his many defeated Archvillains, Billy has fought and defeated his fair share of Giant Monsters including: Adamastor, Kraken, Babbage, the Paladin, a Kronos Class Titan, Eochai, Lusca, Jack In Irons, Sally, Jurassik, an Arachnos Flier, The Winter Lord, U'Kon Gr'ai, the Crystal Titan, the Hydra, and most notably, The Hamidon.
Archnemesis
On his home dimension, Billy was one of a handful of Heroes to have an Archnemesis; a Villain counterpart with an almost exact match in abilities. In Billy's case, his Archnemesis was once his childhood sweetheart; Amelia Aarons, also known as the Azure Eradicator - a Science Stalker wielding a Ninja Blade with Regenerative ability. To date any battles between them have gone unnoticed or have been intentionally been kept from entering official record. The Alpha Group refuses to explain this discrepancy.
