Character

Personality

Talia Endell is, in a nutshell: mischievous, affectionate to a fault and- for an empath- notoriously easy to embarrass. Despite the remarkable resiliency she shows in dealing with the everyday emotions that flood her perception at all times, she still spends as much time blushing as breathing- at least while in the company of her friends. She's loyal, but not as naive as she often seems. While she very much enjoys letting her friends tease the daylights out of her, there's a strong core of steel to the girl that she tries her best not to need.

A very notable part of her personality is her generally submissive nature. Unless she actually feels strongly about something, she's as likely- if not more so- to defer to the wishes of her friends and companions rather than push for what she prefers. This is partly due to her insecure expectation that she'll make mistakes if left to her own devices, and partly due to the fact that she simply enjoys it. However, she will resist if she feels she needs to do so, up to and including entering into combat to protect herself or her friends.

History

Talia Endell enjoyed a normal childhood growing up in Crystal City, Missouri. She hung out with the few friends a slightly dorky girl could gather without feeling too scorned, endured sports events that her occasional boyfriends enjoyed and fended off untoward advances- only to brag about them in exacting detail with her girls later.

Everything she knew ended when a Freakshow cell attacked her and her parents after school. They had staged a car accident blocking their way home, and when they slowed to turn around, the Freaks stole the car- and the girl. Her parents were killed trying to defend their daughter. Three days later, she was found when a SWAT team, equipped with high-tech equipment designed to counter metahumans, tracked them down and scattered the cell. Talia was found tied to a steel table in the back, drugged to paralysis but completely conscious and aware. The official police report details the circumstances and condition in which she was found. It also mentions that she developed a severe case of androphobia- acute fear of men. The severity of her internal injuries also rendered her infertile.

After bouncing from foster home to foster home and branded a troublemaker due to her sometimes violent reactions to being forced into the proximity of men, the orphaned girl finally managed to secure a scholarship to Aeon University through a sorority. However, she couldn't handle the courses for the same reason she couldn't adapt to her foster families, and she dropped out shortly after moving to the Isles- but not before making friends with one of the professors, Mina Nisumari ((See: Zomerana Angel.)) She moved in with the woman upon leaving the university, and stayed with her until she moved out after securing employment with Rogue Entertainment. She is currently employed as an actress.

This is the official story. All the paperwork checks out. As far as the bureaucrats are concerned, this is exactly how Talia Endell's life progressed from conception to the present.

Spoiler warning: Details about a player-created storyline, or information currently unrevealed about a character, follow.

This is not the truth.

Talia Endell is a farce. Her name is a bureaucratic creation, as is her entire past. That said, there are certain similarities to what actually happened- her kidnapping and rape at the hands of the Freakshow, for instance- but the reality of her life is far removed from the official story.

Kendra Danser was born and raised in Paragon- the Steel Canyon district, to be specific. From a very young age, she showed a knack for locating odd, but generally useless, magical trinkets. This, combined with her inquisitive nature and her desire to join the Paragon Police Department, made her a natural target for a number of gangs around the city. She was accosted on a regular basis, but rarely injured, as the PPD kept an eye on her as both a possible future recruit and as an asset- she helped keep a large number of arcane objects out of the hands of the criminals who stole, or simply misused, them. More often than not, a passing hero or a few officers would intervene- if not, the gangsters simply walked away with one more trinket in their pockets- at least until the next hero found their hideout.

Not all gangs abided by the rule of the Golden Goose, however. The Freakshow intended to keep her abilities for their own, and took her off the streets of Brickstown one afternoon. By the time the police found her, it was three days later. She had been taken to a gutted office building elsewhere in Brickstown, tied to a stripped bed, and used constantly in an attempt to break her and force her to work for them "willingly." Remarkably, despite the violent and- in many cases, unnatural, as most of the higher-ranked Freaks no longer had the equipment to enjoy her properly and had simply made do with what they had on hand- she was still refusing to help them when the SWAT team arrived and dispersed her captors. Unfortunately, she did not escape unscathed- as the "official version" dictates, she was struck infertile by their treatment and developed an acute case of androphobia. She was returned to her parents after a long stay in the hospital and psychiatric ward to ensure her relative physical and mental stability, and- incredibly- continued to attempt to pursue a career as a police officer.

It was a few months later that she found her first useful trinket- a circlet, inset with a crystalline matrix. As she picked it up, she felt a presence in her mind- the denizen of the circlet's matrix. They made a bargain- it would help her by using its psychic abilities for her, allowing her to actually fight crime at last, and she would share her senses with it, giving it some measure of freedom from its home in the circlet. She registered as a hero and continued her work, appreciating the circlet's growing powers as it taught her mind to grow in the ways it needed to use its abilities to their fullest. She did not, and is not yet completely aware, of the extent to which the partnership changed her. The circlet's inhabitant was, in truth, a psychic consciousness expelled from its original body on death and projected into the circlet as a means to approach immortality. The denizen was a master psychic, and the friends Kendra made while "heroing"- Mina Nisumari, Devanna Jade and Angelica "Angie" Bardoux ((See: Crushing_Violet)) did not trust the presence any farther than they could throw it.

Their fear was finally confirmed when Kendra was mentally sequestered and her body possessed by the presence as she spiraled into depression following the end of her relationship with her first girlfriend, Angie. The presence secured a psychic suppressor device to lock onto the circlet, hiding its presence and Kendra's potential from Arachnos's numerous psychics as it enlisted as a soldier to train the weak body it inhabited. It volunteered her for Ghost Widow's Bone Spider experimental program- which involved a regenerating, living bone Crab Spider pack built into the subject's physiology in addition to the cybernetics supporting its control. It excelled as an operative, but was too arrogant for its own good. It delighted in causing Kendra pain, and forced her to watch as it contacted her old friends after months of silence.

The plan was foiled, however, when Mitsugami Tanaka called its bluff and located it- and Kendra's body- spying on them in Pocket D. A game of cat and mouse began, ending with the insistence of Kendra's old friends that the presence could keep her if she'd been stupid enough to allow it control. This was a farce, however, and several plans developed to recover her. In the end, Angie detonated the self-destruct mechanisms in the golem body she was using to cripple the pack and disable the presence long enough for Postiche, another of Kendra's friends and her roommate prior to her possession and disappearance, to remove the circlet and destroy it with the help of one of her friends.

Freed but seriously injured, Kendra was take to the Harvey Medical Center in Founder's Falls- and immediately put under Longbow surveillance since, at all appearances, she was an Arachnos agent. Eventually, without the circlet to substantiate her claim that she wasn't responsible for her enlistment or her actions in Arachnos operations, she was given a choice- return to the Isles and spy on Arachnos for Longbow, or else face time in the Zig for crimes she hadn't committed. Backed into a corner, she agreed reluctantly and returned to the Isles, staying with Devanna Jade and Mina Nisumari.

Eventually, Mina devised a way to free Kendra of her entrapment with both Arachnos and Longbow. She cloned Kendra and sent it to engage a troupe of Spiders, ultimately ending with the clone's death. She ensured the clone's body was found by Longbow, and- with both organizations assuming Kendra's death to be final- set Kendra up with her new identity as Talia Endell.

She stayed on with Mina and Devanna until a series of events caused a violent rift between the women. Mina decided Talia was worthless and gave her the option of becoming a maid in their household or getting kicked to the curb. Sibrina Styles, Talia's then-girlfriend and a roommate of Mina's, convinced her to let Talia stay in her room while the situation played out. Eventually, the stress was too much and Talia started looking desperately for employment. She followed Leona Susans, a close friend of hers, and Sibrina herself to Rogue Entertainment, applying for every position they had available.

Shortly thereafter, she was contacted by Elexa, one of RE's star entertainers, and hired on as a contractor. She made a big impression at the party the company held just a couple nights later, and she was quickly signed on as an actress, a position she retains to this day.

Spoilers end here.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Talia's body is in extraordinarily good shape. She tries to keep up with her exercise, but refuses to alter her diet to keep herself in "peak" condition. As such, her muscle definition is lost beneath a little softness, but on someone so slim to begin with, it's barely noticeable without skin-to-skin contact.

Talia is, however, still recovering from a great deal of mental trauma in her past. As a result, she is very sensitive to the possibility of making mistakes and alienating her companions, as well as notoriously hesitant to come any closer- or allow any advances- of more than at-arm's-length where men are concerned. She's expressed that it doesn't matter what they look like, either, much to the dismay of a few shapeshifters.

Should Talia ever find a teacher to guide her through the pathways in her mind, she has tremendous potential as a psychic. For now, however, she has little interest or motivation to do so alone. The sheer potential in her mind grants her long-range empathy, allowing her to enjoy a sort of empathic radar. Those protected from psychic scans do not necessarily escape this ability, as they still register as a dead spot in a world filled with microscopic living things. That said, she doesn't know how to fine-tune the "scan" and receives only limited information from it. She can, however, share what info she does recieve with anyone she cares to within range through a sort of empathic mental bond.

Equipment/Gadgets/Devices

While Talia does not carry any equipment on her, she possess a suit of custom-built power armor designed and constructed by Leona Susans. She also possesses a full set of standard issue Bane Spider armor and equipment.
