Early Life

Spoiler warning: Details about a player-created storyline, or information currently unrevealed about a character, follow.

Born Hikmat Salman al-Shakil ibn Faiz ibn Rasim al-Rashid, the boy who would become the hero Ultonis was birthed in secrecy to a noble family of Egypt. His father, Faiz, was a stern and ruthless man who made it clear that he desired a single son to carry on his legacy. His mother, Saliha, upon learning that she was to have twin boys, did her best to keep the second child a secret from Faiz, who managed to spend more time abroad than at home.

As luck would have it, Faiz was called away for an extended political venture during the scheduled birth of his prized son, Amahl. As she had planned, Saliha took the opportunity to have Nura, her most trusted servant, take the secret son, Salman, to be raised in the United States. Saliha would continue to remain in contact with Nura sending care packages so that her son could live the life he deserved. And as much as it saddened her, the most important thing that Saliha requested, was that young Salman would never know the truth of his birth. Saliha asked that Nura raise Salman as if he was her own son. A faithful servant and friend, Nura vowed to fulfill Saliha's wish.

In an effort to start over in her new Western life, Nura took the name surname Rashid, and changed young Salman's name to Simon. Utilizing the money sent by Saliha, they were able to live a quiet, privileged life, until the fateful day that Nura noticed young Simon was able to move objects by merely looking at them.

An Unexpected Turn

At first, Nura was horrified at her adopted son's unnatural talent. Was he possessed? Some sort of abomination? Was she cursed for her part in hiding his birth from Faiz? Many sleepless nights were spent wondering if she should even tell Saliha of Simon's ability. Months later, while researching the possible causes of the matter, Nura learned of the metahuman doctors and scientists located in Paragon City.

Initially incredibly wary of dealing with the doctors due to the information they could learn, Nura finally gave in once Simon seemed to be losing control of his powers. Developing a cover story of how she adopted Simon, Nura took the boy and traveled to Paragon City.

To her partial relief, after a series of tests, Nura was informed that Simon was a mutant with telekinetic ability. The doctors insisted that for the benefit of everyone, it would be best if Simon was trained in the proper use of his powers. Still apprehensive of a public life, Nura worked out an arrangement for a private tutor to homeschool Simon in the use of his mutant powers.

Life soon returned to a semblance of normality for Nura and Simon. While Nura had long ago decided against seeking a husband or telling Saliha of what Simon could unnaturally do, she was more than content to live a peaceful life with her loving adopted son, even if she detested continuously keeping the truth of his birth from him. Simon's training in the use of his powers had also paid off quite well, with his control and strength increasing slowly each year.

A Tragic Discovery

Soon after Simon's 16th birthday, events took a tragic turn. For 15 years like clockwork, after a package from Saliha arrived on Simon's birthday, she would also send a correspondence one week later. However, nothing arrived after Simon's 16th birthday. Weeks passed, and Nura still received no information from Saliha. Worried at what possibly could have happened, Nura began looking into any national news from Saliha's estate, ands she was quickly horrified at what she found. According to vague reports, there was an attack on the family estate that left no one survivors. Saliha, Faiz, and Simon's twin brother Amahl, in addition to everyone on the premises at the time of the celebration for Amahl's birthday, were all killed in the attack. Shocked at turn of events and equally puzzled as to who could do such a thing, Nura spent the next few weeks verifying the early reports.

To her extreme dismay, Nura was able to confirm reports of the attack by, though the more she looked, the odder the situation became. There seemed to be a pattern to the initial attack, as well as several follow up raids in the area. Nura wasn't sure what to make of it, but it looked as if someone was targeting Saliha's relatives with the intent of removing all traces of their family, friends, and associates. She knew Faiz had many enemies, but she never dreams that any of them could be capable of such a thing. And if that was the case, she was at a loss as to how to proceed. She had hidden the truth of what she had conspired to do with Saliha so many years ago, who could she tell now?

Nura then realized what must be done. She would finally tell Simon the truth of his birth.

Years after the first visit, she still vividly remembered the sense of awe she had when she looked to the sky and noticed one of the many masked heroes flying over Paragon City. Nura had laughed off the idea suggested by the G.I.F.T. scientists that day, but maybe now it was time for Simon to follow in the footsteps of the superheroes? And while he was hiding his identity from whoever it was that sought to erase his bloodline from existence, maybe Simon could get to the bottom of the mystery.

A New Life

Simon's world was shattered soon after his sixteenth birthday when his foster mother finally told him the truth of his birth. After the initial shock and heartbreak of Nura's tale, he believed he understood as much as he was capable of. Granted why someone would want to murder his family was beyond his understanding, but he agreed with Nura that he should use his mutant gifts to do what he could to bring the his families killers to justice.

It would take time and planning, however. He was still young, and he needed to ensure Nura would be safe while he was conducting his investigation. Researching a fitting heroic identity, Simon took the name Ultonis, a Latin word for avenger. He also took great care to ask G.I.F.T. and Longbow to do what they could to prevent his personal information from falling into the wrong hands. He feared for Nura's life, and he didn't want to reveal his own identity until he was ready to take on the monsters that killed his family.

Spoilers end here.

The Global Guard

After several trips abroad to attempt to verify the increasingly vague information of his parent's death, Ultonis realized he couldn't accomplish his goal on his own. On one of his return trips to Paragon City, Ultonis met and quickly formed friendships with two young heroes, Star Scion and Omega Nuclear Driver. Together, the three ultimately decided to resurrect a somewhat defunct superhero group known as the Global Guard. While Ultonis continued looking into the death of his parents, Star Scion and Driver were entrusted with the early stages of recruiting additional members for the Guard.

Weeks into his overseas trips, Ultonis was eventually able to narrow the location of the murderer of his family to the Mediterranean Sea. To Ultonis' growing frustration, the fiend had gone well out of their way to remove almost all traces of their actions. Firsthand eyewitnesses had been killed, and files had been destroyed or erased outright. One the verge of giving up, Ultonis found his strongest lead. The name Agonus was whispered in the darker corners of the Mediterranean underworld, and it was rumored that he was responsible for the horrendous attack all those years ago.

Returning to Paragon City and his allies in the Guard with the information, Ultonis soon realized his quest to avenge his parents death was far from over. While there was a maddeningly brief file in the Longbow Database on Agonus prior to his arrival in the Rogue Isles, there were pages upon pages of information provided on a growing faction of supervillains under the command of Agonus known as the Supreme Society.

It would take time, but Ultonis vowed to bring Agonus to justice for his crimes.

Powers

Ultonis is a mutant with two main powers. First, he is telekinetic with a high level of potential, capable of brute force feats in addition to precise manipulation. Secondly, Ultonis is also able to transfer various forms of energy, such as kinetic or the force of life itself, from one person to another. G.I.F.T. scientists theorize that this transference power is an aspect of Ultonis' telekinesis, and that he is able to use his telekinetic ability to manipulate energy in addition to solid matter.
