What is the "UNITED SENTINELS OF AMERICA"?
The United Sentinels of America is all about classic super heroes! Men, women, and others who wear colorful costumes, stand up to the bad guys, and spout off sometimes "cheesy" sayings like, "You'll never get away with this dastardly plan!" or "Liberty always prevails!"
Does it mean we are cornballs? Well...yeah...maybe a little! Yet, in comics right now (especially DC), we are are seeing the formation of the Modern Age; a new age in comics where the style and wonder of the Golden and Silver Ages is being revisited with the sensibilities of a more evolved eye. Instead of deconstructing the genre, we are simply appreciating it and having fun with it from a serious stand point.
So, if you are right along the lines of what we are about, please feel free to fill out an application! We are always looking for new heroes to help us with the never ending war on crime!
Not sure if your character fits within the guidelines of our group? We have a good visual of what we are and what we are not at our group website in the forums:
Participation Requirements
We expect each member character to be active at least once every 20 days. If for some reason you cannot be on, simply post a leave of absence (LOA) note in the "General Transmissions" section of the base forum and your spot(s) will be secure.
There is also a 30 day probationary period for incoming recruits. All new members must spend this time learning how they work with us and how we work with them. A probationary member should make it a point to team up with other Sentinels, especially Platinums and Golds, at least once a week during their trial membership. It is important to get to know the other members, as well as finding your niche in the group.
Earning prestige for the super group helps in the process of building and maintaining a better base of operations. So, if you can, please try to stay in super group mode as much as possible. There is currently no standard team uniform, which allows members to keep a sense of their individuality. So if you were fearing super group mode messing up your costume, worry no longer!
Naming Guidelines
In order to keep the naming of characters within group standards, please consult the following:
Names can have a dash or hyphen (-) between them, like Captain-America or Super-Man. Please do not have a peroid or comma (. or ,) out of place, like Captain.America or Super,Man. Also, no using i for l, etc...
Note that some of the older members have done this, in which case they have received a pass. Prospective members are required to meet the naming regulations.
Please refrain from using published characters and make sure to follow the rules of copyright. No character can be named for or in reference to a published film, television, or comic book character.
It would be a shame for you to be denied membership because of a name, but it is necessary in order to keep the group along lines with its mission statement.
Uniform Standards
As mentioned earlier, we currently do not have an official group uniform, but we do have certain standards that Sentinels must uphold in terms of dress. It is important that you follow the Golden and Silver Age themes when designing your prospective Sentinel. Does this mean that you can't show skin on your female toons? No...but lets remember to not overdue it. A good example and guide to follow can be found in an excellent post at our forum:
So You Think You Are Golden Age?
We are the defenders of truth and justice and certainly want to keep a "good" image in the public eye. Of course, this means that a Sentinel should have a more traditional outfit when participating in super group functions. To go a step further, we believe that as long as you are in the group and as long as "United Sentiels of America" shows up as your supergroup name, then you are representing the group, all of our members, and the ideals we stand for. Therefore, we ask that all Sentinels wear appropriate attire when representing the USoA in public.
If you want a more "risque" costume for private "RP" purposes, then go for it. As always, if you are unsure about what is appropriate and what isn't, feel free to post a pic or any other questions on the forums at the group website linked at the top of the page. Again, we hate to refuse a member on something like a uniform, but we want to keep the image of the group intact and right along the lines of being the ultimate good guys!
Characters and Alts
Each member is allowed to have alts. However, be sure you can play the alts you have chosen to be members of our team. We are not an alt dump, though we do have a place for that with our friends at Tavern on the Edge run by Night Patriot.
Ranking System
Through hard work and effort, as well as the respect and recommendation of their peers, members are given the opportunity to advance along the group hierarchy. There are five ranks within the group that a member can seek to earn: Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Sentinel.
Platinum Sentinel
The highest rank within the United Sentinels of America, Diamond Sentinels are the ultimate example of what a Sentinel, as well as a superhero, should be! Each and every Platinum is more than capable to make the tough decisions for the well-being and safety of the rest of the super group. The position is static and appointment is based upon the discretion of the other "Plats".
Gold Sentinel
The second highest rank of Sentinel and the powers behind the throne as it were. Gold Sentinels have shown their dedication and poured their hearts into the super group, spending their time and effort in helping it grow. They are more than willing to lead others in both action and words, often organizing teams and task forces. Golds help with new member interviews; always seeking to drive the super group forward towards any and all goals set forth by the Platinums. If a character earns 500k prestige, they will be considered for Gold Sentinel status. Even so, it is an appointment based solely on the discretion of the Platinum Sentinels. A Gold Sentinel's voice is heard in terms of running the super group, as they have direct advisory status with the Platinums.
Silver Sentinel
The middle rank along the Sentinel chain of advancement, a Silver Sentinel has shown tremendous aptitude in carrying out orders in the field, as well as, inspiring those around them to shoot for greater goals. It is a Silver Sentinel's job to bridge the gap between the upper and lower tiers of advancement, serving as both a capable leader and a willing follower. After earning 100K prestige or obtaining level 50, a member will be considered for the rank of a Silver Sentinel. Like Gold, the Silver rank is achieved through appointment and is ultimately a reward for being an active member.
Bronze Sentinel
The second step of recognition along the line of advancement, a Sentinel is considered to be an excellent member that participates regularly; both in roleplay and in earning prestige for the group. Any player that has completed their probationary or trial period with the group and has earned at least 25K prestige will be given an immediate promotion to this rank by the first available officer to be informed. A reward for Bronze Sentinel status is the right to have a second character in the super group.
Sentinel
The lowest rank of the super group, a Sentinel Recruit is either: a member in good standing or a new recruit who is in the 30-day probationary period. Although at the bottom of the chain of advancement, being accepting as a Sentinel alone is an honor worth celebrating. While there are little rewards aside from membership, it is the first step towards moving up the ladder with us and quite frankly, a great place to be. Members of the Sentinel rank are permitted to have only one character in the super group.
Exceptions to Ranking
All previous members of the following super groups will activate at their former rank, except Gold Sentinel, due to legacy status:
- Maidens of Might
- Team Justice
- The Champions of Paragon
- The Sentinels of Liberty
- The United Champions of Paragon
Rewards System
At this time there are no formal rewards in place, but development of a rewards system is possibly in the works: including Raid Points, Medals, Promotions, and other possible rewards. If you have ideas or suggestions, please make them in the "General Transmissions" section of the forum at our website.
