From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
I've played MMORPG's for a very long time. From Ultima, to Asheron's Call, and then onward through the timeline to City of Heroes, Warcraft, Eve, and Second Life I've either played for awhile or at least tried them out. Not only do I enjoy them but I also hold a fascination with them in general. I've tried to capture some of it in one of my blogs, Frontier's Horizon. It held a strict focus on just Second Life but Rusty Buchanan, alerted to a "unity of several chaotic dimensional routes" has ventured over to the world of Paragon and has taken up his adventures there.
I keep coming back to City of Heroes, and more importantly Virtue server, over and over again. I think it's a combination of my unending love of the superhero genre, a chance to play and write through a story with a character of my own creation, as well as the wonderful roleplayers I have met on Virtue.
The Character List
It's going to take awhile but I will attempt to get all the characters I currently have on the Virtue server up here on the Wiki. Currently, all my slots are full on Virtue with maybe one possibly up for deletion unless I find some new interest in it. All of them are RP characters and open for interaction with just about anyone. If you want to RP with them, let me know!
I've yet to get anyone to 50th level yet. I blame alt-itis and a personal focus on story and RP instead of leveling, both of which I have at feverish levels sometimes.
Characters
Below is a list of the Virtue characters and a small blurb about their OOC creation and backgrounds.
Joshua came about after about a week of questing for that "perfect idea." I had stumbled onto the The Cerulean Legion while wandering around as Coyote Kid and was delighted with their RP and their openness. How could I resist not making up a character and becoming a "space cop?" He played that role for some time and then, due to changes, he went on to a more solo career.
I knew I didn't want an alien but I didn't just want a normal human. I wanted something... different. The idea for Joshua came like a lightning bolt out of the blue. By far, Joshua is my favorite character in terms of design and purposeful storyline.
Sadly, since his creation (Early 2006), I've had horrible altitis and he's gone from main toon, to an alt, and then back to main. At the beginning of this year (2009), I made a pledge to focus on Joshua and to FINALLY get him to 50. I also plan to make the Virtueverse page the main stopping point for all the stories and info on him. He’s gone through some considerable changes. Look for them to be documented here!
The Gray Griffon came out of my love for characters like The Spirit, The Shadow, and the original Batman of the 20’s and 30’s. I also wanted to do a character that could comment on the massive differences between that time period and the modern one.
Shuttershot is a new toon I created to take in-game screenshots. Why a new toon for this? Well, there are a lot of reasons but first and foremost, it's fun! I have an extensive photography background and I'm fascinated with taking shots in-game. I'll be using Shuttershot to take in-game portraiture.
Besides, he's got a cool concept. :D
Rusty is an avatar character for myself to explore virtual worlds. An Otherworld Ship captain, Rusty Buchanan travels to where he feels drawn and embarks on exploratory adventures using his commentary and skill in observation. He is never without a handful of magical devices which are a mix of Fey-based crystalline energy and steampunk like design. Frontier's Horizon started as a blog to comment on the virtual world phenomena and rapidly became a mix of H.G. Wells and Jules Verne adventure and storytelling. Rusty can also be found on Second Life by the same name.
I'll get Mythwalker up here eventually. His is a huge story and it will take a sizeable chunk of time to write it up. He is my first character on Virtue from so many years ago. He's currently working with his good friend Sayterra and the Dauntless Reverie.
The Coyote Kid is a world travelling misfit. Trained by a retired Japanese katana master in the backwoods of his hometown, Coyote combined his several different skills to his sword training and began to "troubleshoot" for various individuals. Called a treasure hunter by some, a low-life by others, and a smartass by most, he was most recently in Chicago after foiling the theft of a incredibly valuable artifact on display at the Chicago Field Museum. Unfortunately, while the piece was saved and the bad guys captured, his actions brought about a massive shoot-out and damage to the museum. With his affair with the mayor's wife about to be revealed, he was asked to leave town by a not very happy Chief of Police.
Setting his sights on a place he might be able to "hide", he packaged up his bag full of belongings, his trusty katana, and headed for Paragon. After an extended stint with Operations, Inc. and then it's next incarnation StormForce, The Kid opted to start a group for himself which he took to calling The Misfit Club. As his small group began to grow, the name stuck and he eventually registered it with the City.
